**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

Month 2 Day 12 of learning
Trying to make your own stuff is hard, but I think i'm getting a tiny bit better at it, this is my...4th? attempt at an original piece

>any resources as far as getting emotion into your drawings?
You have a choice between practicing your expressions or trying to change the framing of your subject. The latter requires some higher perspective knowledge, the former you can achieve pretty simply by studying settei/expression sheets or just artists that do them well. Character is everything: pose, mannerisims (how they stand, sit or even hold something) so injecting that into your practice will give you livelier drawings.

Like everything, it's tough to master right away but getting some experience in now and trying it here and there will always be a benefit down the line. I've been going through this feeling as well. You probably do have something you want to draw, but it are subconscious prioritizing improving your art quality to remember. Otherwise you wouldn't have began to learn in the first place. Once you improve more you'll the ideas you want to draw will slowly come out.

I've been thinking about this and I think the biggest mental blocker is being able to find good reference. The only refs on the internet that are plenty and easy to find is porn. Is it actually viable for artists to start off drawing coom and then transitioning into other stuff? I think I have seen the pattern of a lot of JP artists starting off drawing hentai and then moving to legitimate IPs later on.

>> No.6908273

>>6908233
imo. if all you do is copy porn then all you'll going to draw is porn. it's good for a quick reference or such, but don't make it a habit. If you want to do more, you probably should be more focused on material more related to what you eventually want to do.

the shadows in the hair lock nearest to the viewer
I can see 5 value steps that don't really make sense there
I recommend you don't use hard edges for details in shadows like ambient occlusion, it will compete for the viewer's attention with the terminator and highlight
pic relate is just a very quick edit I made. hopefully it can get my point across, I also moved her to the center since putting her face too close the the edge will create unnecessary tension

Take this with a grain of salt from a fellow /beg/
first youre doing pizza faces, notice how the jaw line for Bocchi on the left is a bit more linear, then near the small cheek it turns up and then bends slightly where the ear starts
the eyes obviously are a problem, you did both eyes differently, why? should have stuck with two ovals like on the left
for the shoulder length, notice how Bocchi's on the left is pretty much one to one with how her body would have been naked, the shoulder pauldron lines coming from the point of her shoulder, you made the shoulder area too large in comparison, I suggest using small circles if youre trying to keep her small thin arms
for the legs notice how the inner thigh line is paralel, its like a straight line, while the one from outside head inside

Recently I came across a post on a different site (yeah, you already know which one) from a 17 year old who helped animate the Jujitsu Kaisen anime, another show and the RWBY movie. Obviously it's pretty fucking nuts but he had the facts and production material to prove it. That's all besides the main point; he mentioned he got these jobs through friends on Discord and Discord communities but never specified where exactly nor their names. I was wondering if such communities existed and where would be the best place to find them? I'm hoping whatever answers we can come up with can be beneficial to anyone looking to break into the industry as I am too.

good stuff, anon. that's a difficult pose to pull off, as many sitting poses are
also, avoid shrinking the far eye like that. I get it that you're trying to show perspective and vanishing points, but the horizontal distance between the eyes is too small for that kind of distortion to show up. it looks good in those close up face shots with fisheye distortion because the face becomes 80% of the space of the composition so the distance between eyes becomes significant enough

This is strange to read because if you follow a lot of mangaka or japanese artists in general a bunch will say they got started by copying manga (of course a lot of them also took something art-related in college but complete autodidacts aren't rare)

Like yeah maybe it's not the most efficient method if you aren't "autistically" doing it from age 15 onwards but you will have to put in the hours somewhere. Doing any exercise only 4 to 5 times will not teach you much of anything I don't think

Yeah but if anon feels like it is soul sucking then surely there are methods better suited to him where he can put in those hours. Art should be fun in the end.

Because when you post images that look like artwork in an anime study general with no text or context quote it implies you drew the image and that you're trying to trick begs into commenting on it, so what exactly are you doing that for? Or am I incorrect and you were posting just to call it souless? if so then my bad? but really without any context it's hard to say if I'm giving you too much charitability.

try to not use colors too dak/ saturated in comparsion with the base color, the hair shadows make the base color looks almost as it's shining becase the shading is too dark or saturated, the skin shading also needs different tones depending on the areayou are using the same shading in tne neck and ears but the ears are more exposed to the ambient lightning so they shouldnt be the same color, the horns too have a dark shading it shouldnt be that dark since they are literally exposed to the ambient light

it is a problem tho, you might not realize it now because its just a floating head and theres only like 3 different things being colored, which it might make these errors dont stand out that much but once you start doing complete body drawings or add more stuff being colored it's gonna make everyhing look worse, the color palette it's not the poblem btw, it's the wrong/mistmatching tones on certain areas.

Main thing that stuck out to me is the lack of softness in her hair, don't be afraid to get a little curly with it since shojo art tends to have more "fluff'. Also the eyes tend to be really shiny and big but they don't *have* to be big, just shiny. Shojo art is very cute but do not be fooled, the linework is very very delicate.
