Early on I did want to make her hips a little bit more defined, but I wasn't sure how to achieve that while still maintaining the overall shape of the legs without either:

Both of which I felt looked kind of bad. I admit that coalescing wider hips with their legs is something I struggle with. How would you go about doing it here?

Made her waist smaller to make the hips stand out more. And messed with proportions, head smaller, arms shorter, feet bigger. Ignoring the changes though I do think making the legs wider would be a good choice either way.

How would you personally make this more attractive and cuter without getting rid of character defining features like the pointy nose or the star shaped pupils?
Even if I know the basic Loomis method and "realistic" proportions of the head, faces are a big weakness of mine and it's especially evident when I try to draw anime girls.

it's a bit difficult to critique something in such an early state. you can direct attention to her face through other means so unless you're unsatisfied with the pose or the angle of the camera i think you can start detailing. the shape of the scarf is a little distracting but i imagine your final vision of it will be quite different. i like what you have going so far and the rough sketch looks pretty appealing, good luck working on it.

Think of hair as a graphic or shape that's meant to enhance the face or frame it. Big shapes with a few small strands to imply edges sometimes helps.
I feel like all you need to do is build up mileage, try focusing on hair/faces, look for references of photos or art you find appealing in terms of hair and faces and try to draw a new face by combining features. I think people would say this is a hack fraud move but when all else fails draw the eyes/forehead bigger lol

Already ahead of you lol. It was a fun experiment, but I think my style bled into this attempt more than it should have and I didnt really find what I was looking for. I may give it another shot tomorrow.

Pray tell, am I overthinking this? Looking at such a cute blondie makes me question if mine is really that good. If my style is lackluster, or the design isnt catchy, or it's about both. that sounds like a good idea, my initial plan was to draw more serious stuff like this but my impulsive need to post more drawings takes over so i must suppress that urge or make a collage like you suggested with my impulsive doodles
