If you are a /beg/inner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

>TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction
to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help.
When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

help me /beg/, I think I messed up. I started drawing many years ago and finally hit a decent level (still very much /beg/, but I was happy enough to go off and play with it) like 2 years back. I got through a chunk of drawabox and although my construction skills were still weak it was enough to get me through. Now it's some time later and I'm coming back from like a 6 month break and although I was slowly improving just by drawing I think I've hit a wall because of the lack of fundies. Is the best way to fix this to just pick up keys to drawing and run through it from page 1 or is there something a bit more focused I can use to patch up holes without redoing the entire foundation?

So how do you actually get better at construction? I’m pretty good at observing and drawing based off that, but there’s no real construction process. yes. The whole point is to copy art before life. My guess is that the left side ended up broader than the original because you weren't able to capture the mouth expression and tried to compensate in a way.
Shorten the distance bet the nose and the mouth and close the distance from temple to the jaw from the left side with the same diagonal line from the right side.

>> No.6901414

For the last week I was chugging along as a beg but now I feel really overwhelmed with options, I’d appreciate some input on how to spread my resources out.

Right now, I’m going through Proko’s basic course, and it’s really easy so I’ll probably be done soon. I also have drawabox because I heard, for it being free, it’s a really good fundamentals course. It’s besides these two that I’m a bit confused.

Is anatomy something you’ll have to pick up a book to learn, or are there reputable anatomy courses too? What about things like construction, or lighting, and all that? Should I just complete one course at a time and supplement it with as much drawing and studies that I can?

sauce on right ref image? also looks pretty good to me, it’s tough because irl the difference between looking striking instead of normal is just a few mm of bone.

One issues that sticks out are your jawlines are much rounder/smaller/too high up compared to Finch’s, the angle of the jaw should be squarer and lower.

It has nothing to do with shading and everything to do with accuracy. It's because the lines, shapes, angles and proportions are out of place. Lower the opacity of one of the images and overlay them to see how close you got.

>There is one thing not to do, and that is simply to drift along with the daily routine, making no extra effort. You will soon find yourself middle-aged, having done nothing more than routine jobs, and being little farther along than you were years ago. The extra effort is the difference between the great mass of mediocre artists and the comparatively small group of very good ones.
>And in Art, study can never stop. You will find sketches galore in the studio of the good man, with the paint quite fresh. The mediocre artist's sketches are old and dusty.
>I have seen so many middle-aged artists still hoping, whose samples are frayed at the edges, and thumb-marked with time. Sometimes it has been a matter of years since they sat down and actually did something to give their hopes any promise. They are plodding their lives away at something they hate, and doing nothing about it. These are the men who never seem to have had a chance. The truth is, they never seized a chance.
