Even just being offline, it's not that you're lonelier but you are suddenly aware of the fact that you're a dude staring at a bright screen in a room by yourself.

It kind of (weakly) mimics human connection, isn't it? Once this piece of garbage does not connect to the world wide web, you see how it is merely a tool.

yup. to combat this I usually have someone talking in the background, usually youtube videos of streamers playing games. hearing someone talking kills loneliness for me, but thinking about it is actually painful, thanks OP

Not having internet connection at home doesnt make me feel lonely, it outright stresses me out.
Not because of anything like "I cant live without my internet", but because I am from a country where the most affordable internet provider is at the brink of death and constantly has strokes for unknown reasons and for unknown periods of time, so of course we would get worried, not because it's gone, but because we dont know when it would come back, if at all. Plus the fact everything we do is linked to the internet in some capacity (looking stuff up, downloading files, listening/watching stuff) doesnt help either.

That said, I dont understand why people feel so emotionally hurt for being offline, to me it's the opposite. Having the world at the reach of a click often feels like your world becomes bigger, suddenly you have a lot more things to worry about, more relationships to grind, a new face to wear, more stuff to do... it's overwhelming and makes it difficult to focus on the important things, you oversaturate of information.
But then it's all gone, you stare at your surroundings and you see how the world becomes a lot smaller, less overwhelming, you dont have to listen to what some fags at the other side of the world are doing, when you are offline, all that matters is where you are and the people around you, including yourself.

To me, being offline is quite terapheutic. At times it feels reality is an escapism from the internet, instead of the other way round.

Overwhelming is the exact word I would use to describe the internet. Too much fucking stuff, feel confused.
