When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction
to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help.
When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

Hello, I have a question of the people, do y’all think tracing my own hand and using free use hand outlines for art devalidates it? I love drawing and feel guilty for this! But I take a VERY long time to get my artwork done, I always perfect it and make it look amazing but it takes hours upon hours to the point of me making
unsmart decisions with time adding unnecessary details from zoning out. Please give me your opinions!!! (This art is not being commercially sold)

Yes. I am diagnosed. What helps me is building a routine and forcing myseslf to draw at least one thing a day, and it works wonders. I usually draw around 1 and 2 hours a day. Not much, but at least I draw. Sometimes I use alcohol, sometimes kratom, but most of the time it's coffee.

So here is a thing that's been bugging me, while this reference study looks pretty crude and crap, it actually took me over an hour to actually draw both.

The reason was I would make an error, and rather than leave it, I would erase the error until I eventually got the result that looked closest to the reference source...but is this a bad habit to do early on?

Like I keep thinking erasing my errors rather than just leaving them may slow down my growth as an artist. Granted, I am getting far more accurate with my studies (with a 60-75% closeness despite some inferiorities/less detail) but am I actually improving or is it just an illusion?

Also I am thankfully gonna go back to drawing humans for a bit, which will be interesting as I haven't done many in a few days besides hands and legs.

anyone here done vocational art school in Japan? I’m considering which route is the best for gaining all around fundies for people who manage to have careers in animation and illustration both. It seems like the best work comes from star students in animation courses, even though the majority of animation work shown is lacking in fundamentals. Whereas the illustration courses emphasize the most fundies and technical study, and the quality of work on display is overall consistently good but not exceptional. you are not alone. i already tried out 7 different drawing apps and apart from Rebelle in all other apps 95% of default brushes are COMPLETE ASS. Even in the paid apps like CSP or PaintStorm Studio. This is most likely due to apps being developed by coders instead of drawers.
>supposed to know what a good brush is

thoughts on the one on the right? i think that one turned out the best. i emphasised the back which is where the action is, i established relationships between the lines, i drew in the direction of growth, so even if it is anatomically incorrect it works.
i didnt do any of that in the middle one and left one. in the left one i did whatever, just copied from observation. the middle one i stacked forms on top of each other (i erased the overlapping lines).
and during those i remembered i should use the lessons learned previously in the book so i applied them for the right one.

Okay, you've got the face drawn fine now, but I think your issues are with values. You've placed your shadows along Peter's face find, but then the shadows get darker on the far side of his head. Next you drawing, try going just lights and shadows. Keep it really simple. That's what my middle pic was aiming for. Simplicity is key here. Download the video course if you'd like. It's a bit more detailed.
It is a little monotonous, but you can speed up the video. And you don't need to listen to every single second meticulously, just listen to what he says and pay attention to the "key" bits when he draws. You can even sketch while watching to make it settle in easier.

I got into drawing because of one of my other hobby, tabletop rpg. I got tired of describing things and people either not getting what I was talking about or defaulting to cultural reference.

There's also a criminal lack of art depicting cute girl with a chest armor and a puffy dress. So once I get decent enough at drawing human bodies I'll solve my problem.

You can spend your time on other things that are more important to you, or you can waste your life doing nothing, it really doesn't matter. any reason to quit is valid. you don't have to justify why you quit. But you don't have to downplay art like there's no value in it. You can aknowledge that something does interest you and still choose to walk away from it. I think your dissonance might stem from the fact that you try to tell yourself you never liked art. It's fine to like art and still choose to not actively participate.

It does seem like constant coom in manga and comics get ignored if the females are 90s Hot.

If you draw Taylor Swift nude, it's art. If you draw an Instagram thot in the exact same way, it’s coom.

did proko for a one (1) day before someone told me i was wasting my time and to use vilppu instead, haha. otherwise it's been a case of getting humbled by my skill in practice - hard to study figure if i can't even get the basic proportions right. i'm considering these prerequisites that i didn't know about ahead of time, i'm not just getting bored or flaking because i'm "not making progress". KtD -> marvel up to the proportion diagrams -> vilppu figure is now a set-in-stone plan, so there won't be any deviations from here.

yup, i start with a 2048x2048 square and the whole day's studies get drawn on it on a layer each before getting hidden. after finishing a batch of related work i expand the canvas, lay them all out, and feedback on all of them at once. helps give a better overview of my skill. obviously laying the work out like that means the canvas keeps getting weirdly tall but it's more useful for me and i'm too lazy to make it "nice" to upload here when i could be spending that time actually drawing instead

was gonna ask which area in particular but now that i look there's hard borders everywhere. will focus on it today, thanks

Tried doing some 30sec gestures and got humbled. Are they supposed to look like shit and are they only used to improve drawing speed or is there something else?

on the left, my first attempt. a failure. but do i falter?
HA for you to even suggest it.
then, a new attempt. more relationships MORE.
everything falls into place just so. i see it now. truthfully i see it.
the page is at an end. there is no need for more.
incomplete but complete.
lessons learned.

My intention was to make a character fly preparing an energy attack towards the viewer, I tried to put the body in foreshortened and in perspective that's why his knee is giant, then I remembered that this character cannot fly so I placed him on the ground , I guess I screwed it up from the beginning.
The butt is real, now I can't stop looking at it haha.

You can't do that right off the bat. Why do you think all professional artists have completed at least the 250 box challenge on drawabox?
