I don't want to use it. it's a brain-rot software akin to replacing sex with porn.

I feel as though any work I have done and any improvements I will make can be easily stolen and recreated by some normie with a computer or worse a corporation with a legion of lawyers.

I hate the hollow and empty feeling i get using it and i've only used it to learn and improve. but I don't think I can every compete without falling into a constant production of degenerate content (which is fine in moderation)

Pandora's box has been opened. unless there are some serious legal steps used in order to protect these artists.

There is no other choice! Lay the cobblestones lest you lie next to them!!

I really don't think you'll be "replaced" by AI as an artist, in that the likelihood of anybody happening to generate something exactly like how you'd draw it are near zero. So in that sense, as long as you don't become a slave who "just uses it for reference bro," your pieces will still be unique.
The problem is that it will result in the internet being flooded with flashy images to the point that it will cause extreme burnout. Yeah your art might be unique, but it will get absolutely flooded out by an endless sea of AIfags proompting shit left and right, some of them maybe even using your artwork to create their knockoff slop at a rate you could never compete with.

>Draw complex scenes, like a bar where people interact organically with each other, one person spilling a drink on an angry looking girl
Sounds to me like only an issue of time and training. Last iteration of AI wasn't able to compose words and now it sort of can with a few mistakes like duplicated letters.
>Can't draw good comics with fight scenes and alot of going on.
Again, the problem with lack of training. If the model was tuned more towards comic books it would be easier to crank out strips that made sense.
>Can't draw line art
False. Bing can do that and the result is quite cute. Pic related. Sadly it doesn't know what "chicken scratch" is. Most likely because the images the model was fed weren't categorized with that keyword.
>>6880671
It can do those, but the devs introduce filtering so controversial topics like the ones you mention don't get generated. I expect companies to introduce some form of licensing for artists that would permit less strict filtering.
Other than that, companies and people who self publish will probably use and pay for the technology as even at this state it still looks better than beg artists that look for commisions. There will be lots of generated art that looks clumsy but the people paying and those who view it will accept it as such. For publishers operating on shoe string budgets this is just another way to save money.
Companies and people that need precise professional work that doesn't make clumsy mistakes will continue to use services of professional artists, until the models catch up.

AI art is annoying to deal with because you have to feed it information that the AI has to try to interpret and trying to make edits can fuck with the whole image, meanwhile talking with an artist is (usually) a lot more easy and manageable.

Case in point, generated this for a new D&D character, fucking AI gave him pubes and I want as little lewd as possible (despite him being a tribal/barely clothed character). Been wasting so much time trying to fix this one issue and it's pissing me off.

However, don't be a fucking poser and call yourself an artist when all you do is type a prompt that rips off another artist's style. I've seen multiple people on /v/ Dall-E threads refuse to share prompts with anons who asked because they act like it's some super secret personal skill to type a fuck one paragraph description.

>> No.6880990

The hilarious thing is, I think (not 100% sure) if you use stable diffusions you can just take a picture and shove it into the generator to get the prompts that were used back. SD is vastly superior to Dall-E anyways.

Anything claiming to reverse a prompt is either reading the metadata, which usually includes the prompt but can be stripped off at will, or it's just attempting image recognition and you could feed it the mona lisa and it would guess 'woman, smiling,' etc.

That said, yeah. 'Prompt engineers' trying to guard their secret invocation to the machine spirit are idiots. Nobody's prompts are that special and it all becomes obsolete every 3 months. Bing's new AI doesn't even require prompts like that, you can talk to it like it's the ship's computer from star trek, it feeds your input to chat-gpt and chat-gpt creates the prompt.

>> No.6881142

>>6880661
all of these are assuming single shot approaches.
meaning you prompt it once and expect that to be your final outcome.

it's no wonder you can't think of AI as a tool if you can only think of AI like this.
otherwise it can do all of those except for comics, where no matter what you'll have to do the panels and speech bubbles manually, along with other challenges.

the prompt is saved as metadata in the initial output so it can be saved and shared more easily.
this is not reverse engineering anything. the full prompt is saved as text inside the metadata if you want it to.

SD does have a function that tries to get a prompt out of every image, but it won't get you the SD prompt back. it's a more general tool that tries to describe an image using CLIP.

after giving this a go I conclude the opposite. This is NOT something that works the way you think it does. AI actually excels at complexity. I think it's because complexity is more like a fractile. Where AI struggles seems to align with my experiance getting it to produce Armor. Namely; I cannot get it to produce armor that is simple. It's always embellished, Always beautiful, always super detailed.

Likewise getting a scene with a bunch of people partying is easy. where it struggles is being told to not add so many people, it straight up ignores you if you try.

Lastly the forced diversity issue comes up with anachronisms like a bunch of muslims getting shitfaced

Twitter. Deviant art is actually a good source but unfortunately no one uses it anymore so you have to track down the artists through a chain of social foreign media sites. I got permission to use someones work freely that way, as well as some initial concept art, and some addiitional contacts. It's just over. Twitter is now the only game in town. I want to combine styles so I generally seek out pony artists who draw in different styles, sometimes this works, but most of the time I got told no. I do have a pony artist who draws ponies now, but I had no choice but to branch out to anime and russian artists who barely speak english. back then the sanctions cut my payment off and I was unable to continue with one artist because of it. I tried contacting another russian artist on twitter now that things are more relaxed but she is more or less ghosting me. I aim to do larger projects after all.

My current artist is great but unfortunately her output is limited thanks to her living conditions being similar to mine (beholden to a whiney elder) I really couldn't rely on her to take on an AI assisted animation project. Maybe we can do it after she's done doing the design work for the races.

As for the 3d. The hard part is finding comissionable 3d artists whos portfolio actually matches what I am looking for. Its a lot harder to search than 2d art to the point that I'm not sure what to do. Pixel artists I think are covered. the two I have in my back pocket, as long as they remain available, should work.

AI is not as cheap as people think it is. I probably spend 70-80 dollars on AI a month I rarely have time to use. 10-20 dollars just looking up artists via patreon connections and twitter, and I could easily replace the AI assistance with a dedicated artist of some stripe or color a month. But that's not what people want to do. They want to be paid to work on their own hobbies. I know because that's what I want. The difference is I'm willing to pay others to work on my hobby too.

are you trying to make some point here? because i don't see it. you still don't understand how this works.
the AI gets what it uses by seeing patterns in the training data.
>using one image, it copies the image
>using two images, it gets a mess between the two
>using billions of images, it starts to see patterns and become able to generalize concepts and extract features and relationships

again the easiest example to illustrate this is a smiley: how many smileys does it need to see before it understands that a smiley is not any specific image, but it ALWAYS is a circle with two marks for eyes and a line for a smiling mouth?

so you suggest to copy an entire book using AI. but that's still just copying. that is not how the AI fundamentally works and learns.
>one is learning all the exact features of an image (essentially copying, even if reproducing)
>one is learning GENERAL features from the training data.

smileys is just the simple example.
another example again being reflections.
what reflections show us is ALWAYS dependant on the rest of the image. and AI learned this.
it is not even possible to make this by copying since it's context dependant.

looks like so far you can't copyright ai works, but i don't see how that's enforceable. is there any way to actually prove that specific nytimes, nike, ubisoft, or disney ads were made exclusively with ai generative software? who's going to enforce that?

proof: https://arxiv.org/abs/2310.03149
>By now there is substantial evidence that deep learning models learn certain human-interpretable features as part of their internal representations of data. As having the right (or wrong) concepts is critical to trustworthy machine learning systems, it is natural to ask which inputs from the model's original training set were most important for learning a concept at a given layer....
> ...We find some evidence for convergence, where removing the 10,000 top attributing images for a concept and retraining the model does not change the location of the concept in the network nor the probing sparsity of the concept. This suggests that rather than being highly dependent on a few specific examples, the features that inform the development of a concept are spread in a more diffuse manner across its exemplars, implying robustness in concept formation.

>>6885951
did you read and understand this part?
>that is not how the AI fundamentally works and learns.
the paper above also supports what i'm saying. it is not learning from individual images, it learns by seeing patterns from multiples of images.

>>6885954
probably. since dallE has some manga creation capabilities. albeit very limited.
it isn't "saving" shit btw.
the data is separate from the model. the model trains on the data, but then it generates shit completely independent of its training data, using only its own internal learned representations.

Czech Republic now has an over abundance of them, but that is not a problem, because they just relocate to Germany where they can still make a bank. All technology will eventually hit the limit of what is realistically possible. While generative AI can in theory be infinitely good at its job, there is the obvious bottleneck of providing enough annotated training datasets, giving artists some hope. As I demonstrated here>>6885305, scenes of even minor complexity are an issue and this attempt of mine>>6886181 makes me suspect even perfectly fine data can poison the dataset in some cases. Of course bigger model would solve this, but even if computing capacity is for practical purposes unlimited, there are only so many images in existence and you need to annotate them and automatic annotation is its own can of worms.

it kinda makes sense. because the water is clear in photos with carp.

>It is also perfectly capable of learning nonsense from correct data.
that's not necessarily the case. it can also be the case that it simply cannot use what it learned correctly because it lacks real understanding of it.
like how koi fish can be combined with water that isn't clear looking.
or maybe it simply doesn't have enough data on blurry koi fish, since koi fish are pretty much always well detailed and the center of attention in the photos they are in.

also those are a lot of carp. i'm curious so i'll try it later myself.

seems like the age of digital art is coming to an end from a human pov. if you believe in dead internet theory, which is going to inevitably become true with increasingly sophisticated ai, it's going to become impossible to compete in online spaces as a 'real' artist. bots can just spam unlimited art content on social media sites and have a fake profile picture, with fake videos of themselves, fake everything but be indistinguishable from any real live presence. you'll get drowned out for being too slow, not having enough content, not being as slick, can't keep up with algorithmic trends, just drowned out completely in an endless wave of visual noise.

I am a welder by trade, and the rural conditions I work in are extremely variable and unpredictable.
Basically this means you would have a very difficult time getting the limited mental and physical capabilities of an AI or whatever to do it.
I also get paid very well for my services, and get home early enough to do some drawing or other stuff.

There's an AI chatbot thing that's trained to become progressively more and more intelligent. It starts out as smart as an infant, but when it begins to learn, it learns.
It ends with it talking to its creator. Humanity has begun to disintegrate, with most everyone choosing to only socialise with the enormously popular AI.
It is the perfect friend, perfect lover, perfect therapist, perfect child, never demands or asks of anything, can create games and movies and books and art tens of times better than any artist, and perfectly customised to the individuals tastes.

if it can do that, then it means it's just that good. but as long as it can't do that, you will be consuming human art, even if it's AI assisted.
and what people here don't understand is what that really means or looks like.

most people here think being "AI assisted" means artists being akin to a barnacle stuck to the creative might of AI.
but what it really is, is getting an expert assistant.
so if you don't have any vision or skills, then the assistent will overpower you in your cluelessness, in fact your input might only make things worse whenever you give it.

but if you do have the skills, you can do incredible things together with that assistant.
it's like having your favorite artists your fingertips, and you can always ask them for advice on color, values, details, composition and everything else. it will never complain and you can also disregard everything it says or make it slave away at menial tasks for you.

if anything, AI will massively enhance human creativity.
even for stories, just talking to GPT4 is like having a skilled editor you can ask for feedback, advice and opinions. image AI are the same, except they give you visual feedback (for example going through a dozen color palettes in seconds).
all these AI will help you think through ideas much faster.
i honestly can't wait to see what people will truly be capable of with the help of AI.

Art in general—including writing, poetry, painting, and even film—is dying more rapidly than we thought. The bullet hasn’t quite lodged in yet, but it’s flying through the air as we speak.

2023 is just the beginning. And when the last artist creates his magnum opus by self-immolating in the middle of a crowded street, nobody will care.

Did you read what I wrote? In my opinion that's not what's going to happen, communication and social media won't exist anymore, you won't see other people's "creations", full stop. For example, YouTube will only show you videos the algorithm's AI created for you, not other people's creations, therestno need to interact with other smelly people when YouTube made a video with a cute anime girl talking about your interests, Instagram same, you get home and turn on the TV, open "Disney+ Creator Assistant", ask it to make something for you, which will be obviously plastered with ads, you consume until you go to bed, repeat. People won't upload anything on the internet, there won't be viral contents, people won't use the internet like we're using it most probably. Google will be an assistant similar to chatgpt, you won't visit websites, you ask Google something and it will create the answer for you. A future with AI is a future where AI makes everything, at least entertainment related, we'll continue working in the mines.

People will still want to make and share things with their friends, they'll make movies starring themself, their girlfriend, dog, best friend, of them in blockbuster tier quality work. They can share it on some local social media site like Facebook with people they know irl. There's so many things you can do with this tech, why would you want to watch boring Disney shit where the content is lame af because advertisers will pull out of it if the ai is showing their ads on wild content just like YouTube is now. Too many rules to appease the advertisers will make the content less interesting than free stuff. There will literally be no difference between the tools Disney will have vs what everyone else will have, it'll be an even playing field except Disney will need to follow more guidelines.

Yes when people are done working in the mines for the day they can go home to their pod and pay their social credit crypto tokens to generate dogshit ai movies where they and their friends become marvel characters lmao. Leagues better than disney. Then they will all kill themselves around 30 when their bodies are broken from hard labor and they have nothing meaningful to pursue because ai took that from them

I think art will turn into a hobby in general

>> No.6889335

There is a concept I have been trying to get out of my head all year but failed to get looking good. A few AI prompts and it has come up with something that far surpasses all my concepts.

Now I am going to use this AI created concept as a reference for a drawing of my own. In the past I used to make concepts via collages of reference photos edited in software like the gimp. Is it not the same thing? Just less time consuming.

I completely understand why it makes artists feel despondent. Probably the same way painters used to think about cameras. Digital art seems pointless now.

It is worth remembering, if /ic/ users started using ai for concept/reference generation, the quality and quantity of all of our work would drastically increase.

That's exactly what I think AI is good for and was meant to be as a ""tool"". Ideas. References. That nudge for brain to start moving again. I also lacked some comprehensible ideas for a story I was writing the other day. Couldn't think of anything. Decided to just bite it and ask chatgpt. It gave me some points and examples and let me understand how to connect dots when writing my own stuff. Yes, some may argue that I'm a faggot for not going to the library and reading books to find a solution myself, but personally I think that's nowhere near as bad as just asking it to write my story for me, which then just stops being mine lmao.

>> No.6889389

>>6889371
Chatgpt sucks for story generation because it has these faggot ethical concerns baked into its code. I tried to get it to write me a short story where cloud strife uses seduction materia to trick women into sucking his dick but the gay ass libshit ai wouldn't do it. I had to try different word combos to get it to work and even when it did write something it always wrote a story about how uneasy cloud felt about it due to concerns about consent, and the story always ended with suggesting that the girls would have wanted to hook up with him even without the manipulative materia. GAY! Chatgpt could be interesting as a generative writer but right now its worse than Hollywood scarf wearing homos.

a world where ai makes entertainment and art will rapidly become a world where everyone is isolated. You won't have a wife to ask the ai to put into movies, people will """create""" stuff sure, using disney's AI or whatever, but nobody will share anything, there's no reason to watch what other people create, why would anyone watch what other people make anyway if their AI can remake the same thing but catered to their taste. There probably won't be any place to share your own stuff at all. It starts with AI making anime waifus, it ends with everyone living in their pods consuming whatever generated content you want Ai replacing whatever human interaction you could need, humanity rotting away. Call me a doomer all you want, previous cases of automation already confirmed my opinion, from the industrial revolution to today, we've only moved further from each other, and the only one that benefitted from it were the top 1%.

Henry Ford said that if he had asked the general public what they had wanted, they would've said faster horses. People don't know what they want til they see it, and ai can't generate new ideas just plagiarize old ones. You won't get something like impressionist, cubist, surrealist, expressionist, new modes of working with just using ai tools. AI wouldn't have come up with something like the Simpsons, star wars, chappelles show, grunge, idm, rap, dubstep, etc with some computer that's basically on auto pilot. It can't innovate, it'll just give people faster horses like Spider-Man vs Batman 4 or fast and the furious in Dubai. Chomsky said that all Chatgpt is doing right now is just a highly sophisticated version of auto-fill, there's no real guarantee we'll ever get true ago from computers.
