When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction
to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help.
When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

I've just started drawing again for the first time since I was a kid. Sorry for what is probably the dumbest and most beginner of beginner questions, but: My lines are squiggly as shit. I can't draw a straight line to save my life. Even my attempted curved lines don't curve straight (if that makes sense). Is there anything to help something as basic as this? It's a bit overwhelming how much material there is for learning, but everything I've checked doesn't address anything as basic as this, even if its for beginners lol

all the best information I've ever gotten come from interviews, livestreams, and private classes given by professionals.

There is a HUGE gap between the way the average drawing teacher practices and teaches drawing and how the PROFESSIONAL practices drawing. Even esteemed teachers like Vilppu and Steve Huston pale in comparison to the instruction I've gotten from being mentored by actual professionals. In my mind, those "drawing teachers" that give classes at Disney and other studios are a huge JOKE and a waste of money. Professionals take those classes out of curiosity, but it's largely a total waste of time.

learn to draw first
drawing (no shading, outline only) allows you to see outer edges / contours correctly and learn to judge angle / proportion correctly
drawing (shading) then teaches you to see value / lightness without color of inner edges, and accurate judge how the shape of areas, how bright they are, the hardness of their edges
PAINTING on top of that is just taking the previous two steps and adding color (correct hue + saturation)

>>6879805
i wish there was part of the OP that taught people to avoid pictures of pretty women for beginner studies
the human face is one of the most complex and difficult subjects and any mistake is intuitively perceived by your brain as "very wrong"
fully frontal perspective flattens out the form and makes it far more difficult to create a "3d" image
soft diffuse lightning contributes to a lack of hard edges or major changes in value or tone
often makeup / editing afterwards destroys proportions, distorts and flattens it out further
details like hair, freckles etc. tempt people to "cheat" them in with texture brushes or focus on those instead of much large mistakes in proportion or value or tone

Why do you even grind loomis faces, all you should study is the technique and apply your own style to it, what kind of style are you aiming for anyways? My guess is something in anime style since you wanted to create a coom game.

You will get nothing out of just blindly copying every page of all these art books, you need to try to start and invent something for yourself you have the skills so start. You need to create your own way of learning from these books not just blindly copying them like an autist. You know when I draw and encouter frustration or a problem, I solve those problems with the techniques from these books. You learn by that, trial and error, no person ever learned by just reading a book and writing the text down page by page, thats the kind of autism that engraves the knowledge into your head, sure, but it doesn't give you the skill, only the knowledge.

Honestly, taking a closer look. You need to focus on the lower half of the female form. Very symbolically drawn and missing key anatomy, simply not enough curves/lines. The lower half of the girl on the left is ok, but could use some work, and everything from the foot to the right, and especially the lower half of the far right needs a good bit of finishing. Still has a lot of potential and I'm not trying to bash you fren.

Even polished turds have value. An important step in learning is knowing what NOT to do, so if you learn something that's bad with your current project, you'll know to try something else the next time. This applies to determining color choice and manipulating your layers, filters, effects, and everything else; you'll only really know what to do with those if you have the experience.

Probably not. Skin folds over bones is kind of a weird start.
I'd start with just the skeleton and apply a bit of construction to take in the proportions of each major group of bones.

For muscles, googling "muscle groups for artists" yields enough interesting results to copy and internalize.

Boxes are a tool of analysis, showing you whcih sides are the front and back. Boxes are not good for practical drawing. Theyre literally just an aexercise for understanding

In real drawing, you would use bony landmarks in the place of boxes. The landmarks show you where the front, side, top, bottom, and back is of each part of the body. They substitute for the boxes. So in real drawing, you would lay in characteristic shapes for each part of the body, then lay jn the bony landmarks on top of that to give your forms good orientation. The characterstic shapes would be based on anatomy and yhe skeleton

squeeze the anatomy part into the box. pro perspective tip diagonals of square will show you where is center even when foreshortened. Then you can accurately map / foreshorten the anatomy piece in that box (provided you know where the middle of it is)

your circles, at least at the start of fwap, should never end up larger than the head, since it's used to construct the upper half of the cranium. any additional forms should wrap around and on top of the sphere, like you're layering balls of clay on top of it. keep trying to visualise the forms, unreal commitment to this

they look fine to me but i'd say the issue is more compositional/gestural than the way it's specifically drawn. the tree trunks on the left somewhat awkwardly curve in and trap the eye in the top-left when they could instead all lead the eye back round towards the front of the car, as their leaves currently do. ideally the background should service the focus element, rather than exist as context alone

very important tip before you go to your 2nd head
be mindful of the underlying cranium, it's like 80% of the head mass so ppl tend to underestimate how big it actually is, theres so much more subtilty to it than just a sphere on top of a face. Spend 30$ on a plastic medical skull or look up a model on sketchfab and practice drawing that, it's infinitely beneficial to know what the cranium looks like at dif angles.

joking aside, I'd like to 'waifu it up', both anime and not, but my lack of skills (and my poor anatomy) makes churning out one amateurish figure in medibang take 23.5 billion years - so practice slow. Bridgman appeals to me in a couple ways, copying the book instead of hunting references, the forms are clear, and I may gain some speed from not having to second-guess everything - that, and this meme from 2 threads ago. On the other hand, it's not pretty, and the end-goal isn't exactly becoming Bridgman photocopier per se.
