Being able to draw perfectly straight lines or drawing perfect circles.

If it's really important how do you learn this?

>If it's really important
no. there are plenty of masters who dont use perfect lines both in their drawings and or paintings. but it should also be said that they probably still are capable of drawing them (if they wanted).

I would argue the only "medium" where clean lines matter are hand made animations and comics, mostly from korea and japan.

nope but i really need to, i learned a lot of color theory during design classes though so i'm an idiot for starting yet
this is a very quick (like 15 mins) "doodle" i did on CSP while watching eva rebuild with some of my classmates, didnt even use the eraser properly kek

If you already have an iPad, Procreate is a one-time purchase and has a lot of features designed for digital painting and illustration. If you don't already have an iPad, though, probably not worth buying the iPad just for one software.

For PC: photoshop is an industry standard but I hesitate to recommend it since it's not built around painting. I definitely don't recommend paying for it. Krita is designed for artists and is free but I've never actually used it before.
I've used CSP and Corel Painter, but I found both of them to be difficult - I can't tell if I just can't find the features I'm looking for sometimes or if the programs just don't have them.

I like all of these. As a first step, rough drawing will save you time and work later on when you find a design that is worthy of high definition attention. Here I was reimagining the first pages of a long story, blocking out the scene, background here and text there, and I will probably redraw this a few more times and pick the best version. Line control is a pretty important skill and an underrated one, I think.
General accuracy is really helpful for the sake of efficiency. The less time you spend fiddling around drawing and redrawing lines the better. It also makes your linework nicer and more expressive when you become proficient at it. Perfect straight lines and circles isn't the point at all though.

The point of line control isn't to draw perfect shapes, but to be able to put images in your mind on paper with accuracy. Of course, that isn't to say that imperfections are inherently bad, nor am I saying that one can't draw "spontaneously", but it's a good skill. Generally though, it's something you pick up over time as you draw more, so it's never anything you have to "learn", so I wouldn't worry about it.
That's what I think, anyway

I think it's insanely overrated and borderline useless. Just think of it that way, how many times was your drawing bad cause you didn't perfectly draw a line. It is but drawing accurate irregular shapes such as anything from real life is equally as important as drawing accurate regular shapes like circles and lines. Ultimately what you should do is find an efficient mental algorithm to translate what you physically see into the paper and, when drawing something novel, keep that physical quality or bend it in such a way that it fits your mental vision perfectly. You learn it by training your brain not to take premeditated shortcuts and draw a different line/shape than what you really want. Its a combination of muscle training, awareness training, and endurance training

I know people don’t usually reply to your posts. I admire that you keep posting anyway. Your 70s-style characters are probably too different from the derivative anime coom slop that pervades this board. I think I’ve seen improvement in your posts since you got back into it. In my opinion, you render your stuff nearly to death, but in your better pieces you make sure to leave completely white areas and add heavier line weight to appropriate sections.

I come home from a night of tossing boxes around, smoke a bowlful of this Legal Franken-bud, and start pontificating on all sorts of shit.

Like now! :D

But,I have been drawing for 50 years(I was a prolific grammar school artist),and have experienced a bunch of art stuff that some might find useful in their own journey of self expression. If not...saying it anyway. If the 4chan machinery didn't take currency other than crypto, then I might consider getting Name,so those who see it can either expect a show or dive for cover to the next futa orgy picture or whatever. I can chart my own journey, plans derailed, a random spark that powered a story for over 180 strips, its loss, the drought, the reawakening that persists to this day. What I have the most of is not what I would call Product, but the story demanding existence, clinging to the page, crowding it,such was the Snowglobe story,at 180 pages only two-thirds told. I am proud of it,and the story that had foreshadowing occurring over years and mysteries slowly unraveling was a wonder to behold, each strip a one way journey in ink. My current project is videoing myself drawing the first introductory story in hyperlapse, so viewers can see things that will be iconic appearing before their eyes. But taking a break, and adding black pen to last year's work, since pencil will render them into smudges without serious use of dullcoat. And I like the effect of the pen,and to do so is its own education. I am doing this to a two page story I did over the summer. The journey never ends.

Likewise to all of your stuff; you've made some of my favorite pieces of art, with it being hard to explain the profound effect they've had on my life. I won't pretend to know your intentions when making these, but your works stir me with a great feeling of wistfulness and malaise: bringing to light a many other emotions and thoughts within myself that I wouldn't be able to express truer as anything other than these frantic figures. They've helped me come to terms with and reflect on a multitude of matters in my changing life—and for that you have my deepest thanks.

Maybe a bit silly to say all this about some schizoposts on a basket weaving internet forum, but I really do love them. I hope to continue seeing these threads on /ic/ for a long time, and will sorely miss you when the day comes that they stop.

It's a valid skill, but it's more something that you should notice one day has gotten better, it's not a test you can cram for.
>How do you do this?
Perfect? You don't and you wouldn't want to. Your lines will get better as part of a feedback loop. Draw shit. Look at your work. Repeat and trust your brain. Just keep drawing different shit. It will happen. Don't worry about it.
