Does it work?
Should I take advice from Sycra?

>> No.6826142

I don't know what it is, but it's probably useless and/or counterproductive.

>> No.6826149

Sycra and Volen are proof that anti-talent is real. No amount of hard work makes up for it.

Scyra is alright. His advice/tutorials are more for those who have been drawing for a few years though, since only with some experience you could relate or make use of his drawing methods. I think it's more for those who are self-taught.

>Iterative drawing
It's basically mileage. If you draw thousands of heads you will get better at drawing heads, natch.
A lot of art advice can be boiled down to: just draw

Iteration is literally how you learnt to walk, speak, write, do math, etc.
Why wouldn't it work for drawing?
School really makes people retarded thinking academic learning is useful for anything but memorizing trivia.

Syrca’s method is nothing new.

1. Draw from a reference
2. Compare drawing to reference
3. Now draw without reference
4. Compare the drawing to reference to see how much of the image you retained

You just trying to push your short-term memory into your long-term memory, and it’s the only method available to broke-ass niggas like us who can’t afford classes.

So uh for example right now I'm struggling with eyes.
I draw like, 5 eyes from reference and then 20 eyes without reference and compare to the reference and evaluate my mistakes?

>>6827648
That's one way. Try the simplified bargue plates for eyes. Even if you are not doing the full bargue method, they are good to study.

I’m not too fond of blind repetition, be sure to also evaluate precisely what you did wrong with your drawing, preferably the next day and draw it again taking into account your previous errors.

If you want to improve you have to grasp what you do wrong. Besides I would never focus so much on just eyes, rather go for full portraits instead.

Exactly.

Noticed how it says to compare in its own step.

Also, I would recommend watching Scott Eaton's video. There are a lot of ah-ha moments in watching the video that made me let go of Loomis' dick.

And if you don't know how to get Scott Eaton's videos, what they fuck are you doing on /ic/ for?

Now I need to stop being full of shit and practice what I preach.

You could just try it out for an hour and see how it works out.

But I think he raises some good points on how to practice getting a style and more milage.
