ive seen some other work from this dude and for some reason he draws most of his hands like that. but now that you mention it I can see some AI influence, like the weird hair that just connects back into the rest of the mass on the right side.
I wonder if this is a case of using AI as part of the process, like a crude sketch is passed to AI to clean it up, and then the rest is colored by hand.

I did use an AI generated image as a reference. I placed the original drawing into Counterfeit V3.0 and tinkered with the settings to generate a couple of images as ideas. I'm fooling around with the idea of integrating AI into a workflow to iterate illustrations at a faster rate, though it's not perfect. This drawing of the goth I don't particularly like, I saturated the face too much and couldn't be arsed to render the frills on the dress which would've elevated the picture. All in all it was an attempt at new things. It's also helped me realize a lot of the lighting mistakes AI makes that I wouldn't have otherwise noticed, since I don't scrutinize AI images all that much.

It was fun, though I don't think I'll be doing it much in the future. I prefer using real life as reference, and I fear that using AI as reference too much would fuck with the way I think about light and fry my brain into making mistakes. But it is a great source for compositional and stylistic ideas.

Regardless of the references used, I drew everything by hand. No overpainting/editing/photobashing. Here's a timelapse of the thing.

No cheats, no rules, only tools.

Lol, I forgot about that. I wanted to make hair strands to connect to different planes, kinda like how hair tangles. But then I decided that light coming from behind the head would accentuate the face more, and forgot to bring that hair strand in line with the rest.

Same thing happened with the doll. In the video you can see that I lay down the light for everything but forget the doll. I only notice the doll has no shadows later when I’m coloring, and I cheese some faux shadows in there but you can still tell it’s out of place.

Heres a character sheet for a comic that Im currently conceptualizing

Heres a brief backstory: The two on the right are spirits of people who never received proper funerals, trapping them in a liminal state between heaven and hell. In the center, "Olivia Suzuhara" is a witch-ghost tasked with exorcising devils who have escaped from hell. Her right-hand companion, "Drystan Devland," is a recently recruited human assistant.

On the left, we have a devil who masquerades as a Nu-metal artist, notorious for orchestrating concerts that double as satanic rituals. Hes known as "Pulse"

i've been experimenting with this workflow too, even down to the same model
it's great for getting examples of how to render materials like metal, skin hair etc and even more so with the add_detail lora, and it's good at animu faces and line weight but useless at pretty much everything else, especially backgrounds, anatomy, perspective and complex camera angles or poses
not sure if much can be learned from it desu

She herself was not inspired by Lisa, but the plot was inspired by that series and Stalker. Like Buddy, she was the only girl in the world so she was raised by a faction like the brothel drag queens in Lisa, but had to leave when it was attacked by a gang.

Anons played her fairly ruthless despite being cute in dialogue, extremely murder hobo esque and she ended getting in over her head and triple crossing two factions after the anons leaked her plan to an outside party without considering the implications. One of the players played Total War so she managed to command the troops well and escaped a double pincer formation and was promoted to a captain within the faction since everyone assumed it was her plan to take out their enemies all along.

Last we left off, I think she was wearing a tribal mask that represented one of the gangs and bullying a himbo underling because she was experiencing a first time crush. The STALKER influence came in because I had anomalies in the /qst/ and gave stones special properties that would functionally give users magic (I don't actually recall something similar in STALKER but I remember getting inspiration from it somehow, maybe from artifacts?)

As for characters, I have these guys: Somewhat like biological robots, manufactured as weapons of war. Powered by the core of a star, walking nukes. Hugely adaptable and with flesh that can contort to fit their needs.
From left to right:
Deneb, blue-white supergiant, based on a glaucus atlanticus. Superior to his brethren in most ways.
Fornacis, white dwarf, based on an argonaut + bleeding tooth fungus. Glass cannon type.
Rigel, blue supergiant, based on a blanket octopus. Silent hunter type.
Aldebaran, red giant, based on a vampire squid + stag beetle. Retard strength type. He's the one with the most lore behind him. He's kinda gap moe to me. extra image of him on the bottom.

The yellow guy is aldebaran's boss/wrangler/creator of confusing emotions for him. Emotions he was never even 'programmed' to be able to feel. They have a strange relationship becasue at any given time either one of them is either lying to the other or to themselves.
With the girl, I haven't gotten very far into conceptualizing her. I think I'll redesign her a bit too some day.

I haven't had the time to flesh all of them out super thoroughly, I imagine his flowing parts can contort into whatever is most useful in any given situation. Wings, weapons, camouflage, in much the same vein as how cephalopods change the color and texture of their skin. He would basically act like a cryptid I think.
