Here's a brief exercise for you. I want you to find the curve and straights in the torso. You can add a top and bottom or elaborate further the orientation of the masses with cross contours(ellipses). Add a center line if you'd like. Trace a couple to get a feel for it, then do it without tracing. The point of this exercise is mostly to add interest through contrast. More something to keep in mind. This curve and straight will help the legs in drawing 2 row 1 especially.

>Impressive, very nice
Now let's see Paul Allen's gestures.

My main gripe is that your lines are very light and seem like you are afraid to define the form. You have one gesture with the darkest lines as if that's the one that's done best. Your gestures are fine, stop being so light and define even if you fuck up. If you want to go a step beyond, shade a bit, no matter the quality.

>>6812523
When you attempt to shade, thick lines for the outline will contrast with the hatching if there is a huge contrast between the line thickness. The thick lines work well, but the darkest parts need to have a fancy form of pure black to thick crosshatching for the transition.

Hello beg, finally a first perspective book which actually shows how to do 5P perspective. It is kinda cool, but hard to keep it all consistent: too many vanishing points, too many rules to keep in mind at all times. As of now i see 5P as maximum drawing showoff you can pull. And it also explains why it is so rare in art circles.

I agree with the other anon, I think keys to drawing would benefit you. I've gone through most of it and it helped me with drawing what I see more and having more confidence to draw anything from a reference without having to build upon a construction. elsewhere, notice how the two sides of the eyes in your drawing have virtually the same vertical value (if we're thinking about it like a coordinate plane), while the in the reference there's a clear difference: both outer sides are higher than the inner sides

I think I get it fellow beglets
The face is a mountain of anatomy, dozens of little muscles, lumps on the skull, sinew, I was so arrogant and naive to think you can just draw a perfect face without knowing these by heart
It's like thinking you can draw a believable body without knowing how the muscles pull through the joints and to each and every bone, it's not possible

Thank you! Yeah those scenes were afterthoughts. My original idea was just to do a simple "slide through" with the nicer pin ups, but then it evolved into a proper "game" with the quiz and a final "reward" sex scene. I did it on the fly at a lower resolution/size. There is a major limitation in the file size, it can't go above 6 or 7MB, above that it never uploads. So I did those pics as simple as possible, I wasn't even sure if the file could be uploaded.
About the dialog, I can't do anything better than that. I guess it matches the crappy dialog in classic coom flash games from the past xD.
The style I am aiming at is the classic Roninsong's. I want to do new little flash projects related to some classics like Eddie Bear, or the candy shop girls. So my girls will usually look like that, unless I make a conscious effort to do a particular refined style. I can do that but it takes more time, like pic related, wich I just did to reply your post, lol
Are you the OP artist? Is she an OC of yours?

>> No.6813241

>>6813208
Oh, I see. I think that if you want to seriously make coom games, you should study how to make appealing women and study anatomy. But, for a spur of the moment game, it came out pretty decent.
>Are you the OP artist?
No, just a random anon lol. I'd be interested to know what he thinks, though.

The hands on the first figure overlap oddly with the rolling pin. The rolling pin's left (our right) side needs attention.
The middle figure's right (our left) arm and hand size and proportion are fucked. His other hand, too. His left (our right) shoulder doesn't seem to connect to his torso very well. His head and face and neck seem disconnected and their perspective is off. The perspective on the chair is weird as well. I'd honestly consider redrawing this guy.
The left side of the dress on the figure on the right makes it look like she has no lower body; it's blowing into where her legs should be. The round thing on her belt isn't centered/doesn't match the perspective of her upper body. If the round thing is meant to be offset, then it's fine. The edges/outline of her skirt seem to flatten the form out instead of wrapping around her body. Her hair is also weirdly flat, especially compared to the first figure. Also, it looks like the hand on her chin flatly overlaps the cuff of her sweater rather than the sweater wrapping around her wrist.
You've got a generally good sense of form, (For example, the middle figure's torso, waist, hips feel solid as fuck and the right figure's tits and sweater and necklace mostly great.) and I think your line art is great. The characters also have some kind of story to them and a world in which they live, which makes this a lot more interesting than the usual stuff you see posted here.

I got a medium screenless tablet, laptop and a shitty low coffee table with shelf under it and I'm sitting on sofa.
Is there a way to make this set up comfortable or should I bail and move the stuff to dining room to use the actual table and chair? I cannot really move the hand very freely or comfortably and it might be fucking my motivation to draw because everything ends up inaccurate as hell.
Also, should I keep the hand above the tablet or it's fine to rest on it? I got a glove of sorts so the hand doesn't stick to the tablet much, but it might still impede the movement.

Yeah, I fell there is still a bit of "lag" that impedes the precision because there still a bit of drag if I do tiny movements due to pressure my hand applies to the tablet.
But yeah, retarded question. I'm more interests what to do with the set-up situation.

As someone who had learnt shading recently, I would really recommend you to do the Tonal Bar exercise in Bert Dodson: Keys to Drawing on page 60 (you can easily find it online). In this exercise you will spend 30 minutes practicing shading, it will be hard but that exercise made me understand shading.

You do not need blending for what you want to do, what you need is to work in layers very carefully, and hold the pencil way up and use light pressure. It takes time to shade. Light and shadow represents the turning of planes. As a sphere has very smooth turns, the shading should be smooth, however your shading shows visible lines, especially darkest area. The drawing also doesn't take into consideration the reflected light of the surface.

Also related to shading, another book you will find interesting is the Bargue Drawing Course, it's not a drawing course book in the traditional sense, it just contains drawings, however IMO those drawings will tell you a lot about shading, you will see why.

Both videos go over it pretty well. What you need to do is simplify the shapes and values accordingly and build details on top of it after you've finished the initial statement/block-in. While he may be painting eggs or a portrait here, the process is the same with hair. You separate the light and shadow, add middle value and so on. This is going to be the foundation for most paintings. Pic related is how you should be thinking about the shapes and volumes in the initial stages of a painting. In the case of messy hair, you keep your shapes clean and add details where the values shift into the next value group (i.e. specular highlight into the average light value) to imply the texture.
Kienan Lafferty does this with leather and hair in these videos

it's less perfectionism and more that i'm afraid it won't really stick in my mind if i do it once and move on. also drawing is pretty daunting and trying new things is scary, so doing it this way helps alleviate that a little bit. lastly i do honestly find it fun and interesting to experiment with these exercises, like drawing the hand in different positions here >>6812827

Imagine you're holding some kind of fan meetup, and you get asked to draw something really quick and you start looking for reference on your phone, pathetic, you should be able to at least draw the heart of the art organically

>The face is a mountain of anatomy, dozens of little muscles, lumps on the skull, sinew, etc.
>knowing these by heart

Knowing any of those things with your current skill level, believe it or not, won't help you make a better portrait. I'm speaking from firsthand experience when I say that anatomy does jack shit when you can't draw basic forms, let alone observe with any accuracy. As a beg/int, you will be crutching onto reference for dear life to accumulate information to pull from later. Also you can draw a very believable body without knowing any of the underlying anatomy, however you'll be heavily neglecting your ability to invent and know what it is that your looking at.

What construction does, and perspective by extension, is allow you to find a point in relation to another point along x, y and z coordinates in a pseudo 3d space. You won't be able to make much use of any fundamental if your eye is not developed to be accurate. Have you looked into how to train your accuracy? If so, what resources have you looked into?

>Have you looked into how to train your accuracy? If so, what resources have you looked into?
Working on the assumption that accuracy and observation are one and the same, the big one i've tried is Keys To Drawing. That's the one everyone and their mother loves to recommend, yet I can't get shit from there.
I've also tried the Right Side of the Brain book, but I think the words words words just turned my brain off for that one.
Idk what else, does drawabox count or is that purely perspective and linework? I did lesson 1 there.
Next i'll want to try 'The Art and Science of Drawing' cause that one has a video course thing I can do instead. But i've been procrastinating so I haven't even tried that so far.

I've never done any of those books, and I'm not that anon, but what's worked for me is simply doing what Loomis tells you to do in "Figure Drawing for All it's Worth". Basically, you find the midpoint of the reference image, then the quarter points, if needed. Then, you simply draw with plumb lines and by extending lines to find alignments.

It's just 3 tools:
>Midpoint(s)
>Plumb lines
>line extension

Master those, and you'll learn to see accurately.

I skimmed through Eviston's first couple of videos, I find that he is clear about what it is he wants the student to do when giving out an assignment. The basic skills section is mostly line control exercises. It takes him until week 5 to get to measuring and proportion which is what most people will be lacking. I don't normally recommend rearranging courses, but I think Brent moves way too fast into drawing simple forms. I suggest putting week 5 videos and assignments before week 3 and 4. So the order you do the course in would be week 1, 2, 5, then proceed through 3, 4 and the rest. This way you can practice practice your observation skills during week 3 and 4. I think you'll benefit from the video structure.
How far in the course are you anon?

Really? That's weird, I think your lineart is very good, some of the best I've seen in these threads. Your lines are great. Consistently good, and it's good across all three figures. I really think if you just pay a little more attention to proportion and consistently feeling the form — just like all of us — you'll be all set. You clearly CAN feel the form pretty damn well, like I said, so applying that ability more consistently in your drawings really shouldn't be too hard. With a little attention, you'll probably get there pretty quickly.

read the "Big sticky"
I'm more interested in drawing/painting stuff like pic related, not sure if its called scenes or something different.
Where should I start?
I'm more interested in background, architecture, and lightning should I skip straight into perspective?
Downloaded the book perspective made easy but the "problems" are to general for me, I will like something more structured, like "draw 10 boxes from below, one from the side, etc..."
Any rec resources like that?

I also think gesture is a /beg/ trap, I may be a /beg/, but here is my opinion. Humans are the hardest thing to draw in comparison to other things (drawing a still life of box, ball and pyraid is hard already for beg), you are already starting with something that is easy to fuck up, but you also have to keep in mind anatomy (general proportions), expressing the form, and something vague such as "le flow" (it is clear many fail to understand what makes good gesture)

This is why I neglect gesture until I can do good stil llife, It feels like efficient to do it now, vague and difficult.

It depends, do you want to do "real" animation? Nowadays every drawing software have animation tools for that
https://youtu.be/oXMCmiT_wxA?si=UZGE3Lenau3iAIXl
https://youtu.be/-B3LDBlkFWU?si=Az50fUeAJtTLjrmB

On that note if you find getting started into that too hard , you could try pixel animation as a way in.

Then you have the other options like just "tweening" images, pan, zoom, slides and fades, then you could try the classic flash animation process, is super easy. You can get the old flash software free in the internet. But flash format is no longer accepted by browsers (unless the site allows the ruffle app to run the animations), is a good learning tool though.

What about "Vect-core" After the lineart, and doing the flat colors, once the art is done, I save it in png with transparency. then I give it a pass on illustrator's vectorize tool, to turn the raster into vectors so I can use it on flash. I thought about it like an AI kinda thing, is it sort of a similar process, but it has been in use for more than a decade now but all of those flash creators, lol

The irony, is that, the AI software that we all talk about today actually can't do this, turn an image into an usable ready vector animation asset. It can't. It's not designed to do that, at all.
You have to actually do the art, turn it into vectors with the appropriate software like illustrator, and then do the animation.

>all measuring points of perpendicular planes will fall in a perpendicular line through vanishing points of those planes
>all measuring points of planes parallel to ground plane will be located on horizon
>rectangle of first space is optional - to repeat simply take diagonal of the first space to the horizon or to the perpendicular thru vanishing point and back
>the depth of the first square is optional - establish measuring line by drawing diagonal thru square 8 where it cuts other division lines, marks off the depths of other squares

There is no text that describes where measuring points and (vanishing points) should actually be placed on the horizon line. What is the method for determining these points? What is meant by "optional" in this context?

what are you trying to do is called mechanical perspective. pic related is how you do it. Yours isnt working out because you arent foreshortening depth into respective vanishing points. More details in book
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40222341-the-complete-guide-to-perspective-drawing

now i should also mention that you dont need exact measurement for 99% of the drawings, you just need very basic / casual understanding of perspective as it is described in books like perspective made easy or even the one from them OP: framed: perspective. trying to use mechanical perspective or measuring points is over kill for your average doodle / study / art.

I'm talking "professional level" of art, not being an actual professional. In my experience, many hobbyist artists are actually much better than professionals, because professionals end up stagnating and not pushing themselves anymore, simply doing their job and clocking out. It's even worse when you end up as a storyboard artist on a kid show like Barney the Dinosaur. Those guys actually draw terribly for decades.

Anyways...

they're both very similar and it's obvious that drawabox stole 80% of its shit from peter han's exercises. dynamic sketching does organic forms first, then textures, then geometric forms in perspective, whilst drawabox does the geometrics first - depends what you want to start with.

dynamic sketching is much more engaging though and the exercises are more free-form, found some of the drawabox exercises a little tedious in the midsection. can easily find the full course on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqR-aNpyEIVd91GCwsyOS3oRn6eoRhyio

i like the design of the girl second-left
based on the photo you're probably using shitty lined paper too, so we both have this problem. keeping at it for a while even with the divots gave some improvement, but larger gains in consistency came with doing freeform waves and curves. basically just make unique curves (straight then sharp curve then straight, irregular wave, whatever) until you find something tough enough that you fall out of the divot, and repeat that a lot. or just something you feel like is helping you understand line quality, whatever.
reducing pressure might also help, as will drawing from the shoulder to better evenly apply said pressure, avoiding the divots in the first place.
based on image: are you using a ballpoint? ballpoints make bigger divots, might be worth swapping over to fineliner if you are
keep it up anon

Thanks, I really like how her design turned out. I was trying to make a variant from one of the BGs in a season 2 episode, and combining what was just a little armor piece into a proper jaw was clunky on the first draft, pic related. Thread told me to try and simplify, so I went with >>6816015 and the bulldog look really played well off that ‘no filter fat chick friend who could kick everyone’s asses. The guys on the left and the right were giving me hard times designing too, I wanted the guy on the right to be sort of a mashup of Pazu from Castle in the Sky, and this one photo we have of the main show’s villain as a young kid (I’m not gonna dump the lore but short of it is, he’s a magic clone of the original villain and he doesn’t know it yet). I made a face shot of the guy, and he’s closer to the final design I want.
The other dude didn’t even have face for a long time in my mind, he’s supposed to be a fifth wheel that opens later plot lines in the show and just mogs most of the others. Then I saw some pictures of Oda Nobunaga and I just, I needed that nose in my AU. Now that I’m looking at it he’s missing the little ponytail? Thing? I should probably know what it’s called…

The thread’s on autosage, I’ll post the rest of my head designs for the main four in the MC’s new life. Be advised it’s Pre-Beg and I’m still not really sure how the mouths work for the show.
