Yep, they've done studies on this. 25 was the cutoff for someone to be able to develop their art skills to a professional level. I'd like to tell you that with exceptional effort you can do it, but literally no one studied after 25 was able to do it. Honestly you shouldn't. People don't like admitting it but art is an awful hobby that really only appeals to masochists. You'd hate your own work for years. Most advice will be of little help due to the fact art is more min than matter and for whatever reason humanity still knows jack shit about the human brain.
You'd also be demoralized by the competition. Yes whether anons want to admit it or not. Art is in fact a race. Everything is in this society. Most pro artists were put in rigorous classes before they hit puberty. They may not have gone to college for it but they had an education.
Find another hobby. I'd quit too but it's sunk cost at this point.

I see these self fulfilling prophecy threads all the time and don't people realize the simple truth that feeling depressed reduces the quality and quantity of learning extremely?

How can you feel sad if it kills all your drive? I just can't feel sad for long when I think about how there is no benefit. You can't tell wrong from right anyway so why do you choose a mindset that deliberately cripples you. If believing in santa claus gives you gains then you start believing, simple as.

Every time I ever debated someone from 4chan they always tried to convince me of some black pill and I just don't get it. Why do you choose to care about a reality in which you don't succeed? Why have you customized your reality to disadvantage you as much as possible? While /pol/ does nothing all day but try to convince themselves that the world is bad and we are all fucked. /ic/ does nothing all day but try to convince themselves that drawing is hard, not fun and they will never succeed at it. You're all such impotent pussies. 10 minutes on 4chan and I choose to be "disillusioned" in my reality. Because it makes me happy. It makes drawing fun and it gives me gains. Only advantages and zero disadvantages. Yes, there is not a single thing to gain from being sad, from ever accepting a reality in which you don't succeed. Your depression won't fix the world, neither will it give you a single drop of success in anything you ever try to achieve.

The funny thing is someone will try to argue back against what I said. But isn't this unbelievably retarded? In arguing back all you are trying is to convince yourself that you are a loser that will never succeed. The irrationality in this behavior is unreal. And all that for what? To feel like you are in the right? Why do you want to be in the right in this case? Why do you have an ego that at the same time makes you self destruct and wants to make you feel right about it? That's the question you should ask yourself.

the problem isnt your age. the problem is who the hell discovers they have a passion for creating art at 25, what were you doing all this time? I got a drawing tablet when I was around 16 and I've only had the motivation to doodle awfully on and off for "fun". I'm 23 now with 0 skills. I do not have a passion for art. 29.
I've drawn since childhood but am nowhere near where I want/need to be. I've dreamed of being a professional storyboarder/animation character designer but that dream is basically dead. Now I just want to create characters that aren't flat and that I can be proud of. This problem is part of a much bigger issues being that I wasted a good chunk of my finite time on this earth.
>inb4 29 isn't old
I have no career, no wife, never even had a gf, live with my parents, etc. This is shit i should have finished by 23 at the latest. Only accomplishment is that I have an associates degree. I didn't go until I was 26.
>art isn't a race
Yes it is. If you have plans to make it, you have to compete. I've already wasted my 20s, I can't afford to waste any more time.
I've gone on and off with grinding and at this point I'm demoralized. I'll be taking the mentorpill as a last resort. Only issue is that finding one is hard. I obviously plan to pay for it and even then it's hard to find one.
In the meantime I'll still grind but I doubt it will go anywhere

A lot of people here don't want to put in the effort to learn how to draw or get discouraged because they didn't master something in a week. It's why you see threads about 'You don't need construction! These pros don't use it in their sketches!' and constant fighting over art courses and books when it all cycles through the same stuff anyway.

That's why a bunch of anons just collect videos, books, and brushes and never put them to use for more than a day.

The human psyche is weird. I like the term of painbody, a evil monkey in your brain that likes being depressed, feeling miserable. I've been depressed and it literally feels good and enjoyable to a part of me, which scares me. You have to identify the thoughts and dismantle them when they come up, don't walk through life unconscious.

Watch Ratatouille, but replace cooking with drawing. It's not hard. Sit down, look at something and draw. Spend 10 minutes on it, if it's not great, fine. Find something else and draw for another 10 minutes. Rinse and repeat until it becomes second nature, like anything else.

3 to 5 years later: congratulations, you can now draw.

Just to add to this; even if you only draw 1-2 hours a day and you have to spend 10 years, you are not going to die by the age of 36, quite the opposite. Download a few books from this board, and delete all social media, except basic messaging apps. It's not because it's too late, it's all about priorities. Finally, you use Google only for references.
