R2 all the way, very colorful, fun, and exciting as new submissions kept coming everyday. The potions were a breather and gave people a chance to play with the character designs. The crazy colors in Carolyn's entry, Antonio's concert, museum heist, russian roulette and patisserie entries, hide-n-seek and DL's animation immediately come to mind.
>fav oc
Carolyn, very charismatic /i/ gal, was very excited to see her join. Bear takes second place.

Amy and Pauline's Patisserie and Balkari's R3. I feel like Chadwick's R3 could claim that title soon.

>What was your favourite round?
For myself, Round 2. Very wacky, lots of creativity required, worked with a teammate.
As for reading others people's entries, both 1 and 2 were equally fun. Round 3 became too plot-driven, which is fine in some capacity, but I don't think taking le Marvel Smash Hearts setting too seriously is that compelling.

>Who's your favourite oc other than your own?
Design-wise, Clowngirl, Contestro, Amy, maybe Vormio for the 5D flexibility.
But then there are characters that just win you over with their stories, like Boberon, Bear, Pauline, Turtloli, Abby, SRU, dare I say Tammy Mato...

Keeping it short: Clowngirl and Boberon.

>Favourite submission?
R1: Chadwick (vs. Carolyn) - storytelling masterclass
R2: Chuckson and Maiden-4 (vs. Alaïsa and Vivian) - infinite soul
R3: Leuca (vs. Ormand) - funniest shit I've ever seen

Honorable mentions:
R1: Balkari parkour, 100m dash, Fernando surfing
R2: Jed sailing, Cannon Girl rioting
R3: Kevin rampage, Doom mod, Pauline, Turtloli's "true ending".

Bear gifs!!! also some round 3 comments.
>Leuca
I liked Leuca's shitty punchline and Cassia's badmouthing caught me off guard. Leuca is great at face and body language, and her stories are casually funny. Hearing footsteps, hallucinations, killing randos... she infected Ormand with Hinamizawa syndrome, right?
Ormand's art feels flat, but the texture brushes gave it an interesting look.

>Senna
Senna finally displayed her true potential this round! Nice style and many great panels, like the gun fight or the skeleton leaving her body. lol'd @ GM waking up.

>Janitor
Somewhat balanced matchup. Fernando's story is straightforward, but as always the art is where it's at, very elegant and graceful. You have a gift for making anything look charming.
Janitor's fight is very cinematographic, while the animations remind me of the Zela CD-i cutscenes, and Fernando becomes more and more off-model until he's reduced to a crazy clown with a square printed on his face.

>Nathan
Both were silly in a good way. Godspeed, CG, most lovable idiot of /crab/. Nathan's art looks better and less sketchy, and Honkita punchline was funny.

>SRU
Different kinds of comedy: SRU's autism-fueled epicness vs Paulus' folkloric dry humor.

>Bellboy
Bellboy's comic was glorious, enjoyed it a lot. Smiled at the Lustless cameo: "come to mama!"

>Merachne
The two entries felt like shitposts made by talented people. Outtake was ridiculous and low-effort, while Merachne was stupid and beautiful at the same time.

>Balkari
Pure, unfiltered fun. It involves all the cast, planning such a long fight choreography is probably no small feat. Merachne acting precious, Maiden's idea to hide in Carolyn's face and asphyxiate Balkari, Boberon pulverizing DL's back, many great moments.

>Kevin
Kevin's progress here is brutal. A dark descent in madness ending with a fate worse than death: corporate life. You delivered so much: an awesome fight (Kevin's silhouette with red shadows was incredible), gruesome deaths, but also CG's heartrending last moments, which made me feel terrible. The bonus content was super extensive too.
>Kevin meeting Scrimblo (He doesnt die I think)
>next drawing is Kevin holding Scrimblo's bloody corpse
kek

>Abstain
Animators time to shine! Nice fight choreography, voice acting(!) and many memorable shots. Must have your wrists on fire after all that.

>Carolyn
Barely ever played an FPS in my life, this was my first experience with DOOM. Chuckanon was kind enough to give me many tips and explain me how to activate God mode :] (What?... I had my comic to work on!), I got around beating it fair and square a few days ago. Many aspects of the game to praise: Beautiful spritework (Carolyn's daughter), Chuckson's lines are hilarious, the level design expresses the story very well.
We Eldritch got the privilege to witness Carolyn's masterpiece in the making, and she was kind enough to break Turtloli's staff for me. Beautifully tragic story, with incredible writing and paneling, her version of the events was harrowing and humane.
Different medium, different expectations... Chuckson lost a ballsy gamble, but he earned my respect: you can't imagine my surprise and pleasure when I saw the words "ARE YOU A BAD ENOUGH DUDE TO BLAST YOUR WAY OUT OF CAROLYN'S FACEHOLE?"

>Bear
I love your personal vision of the tourney: the artificial Crabcity, the contestants waiting in a bar, the random locomotive and crowns... and how you portrayed Turtloli training with the Eldritchs and Chuckson, so sweet and comfy. I did notice that in your submissions, Bear slowly became more and more jaded, that got me believing he really was going to shoot the girl in the end. Good luck for the one-shot!

>Chadwick
Chadwick's burtonesque rendition of Alaisa is adorable, and the fight looks action-packed and exciting. Can't wait to read the good end.
I took issue with the writing in Alaisa's entry. I couldn't understand the motivation behind the characters' actions and felt like too many things were left implicit at the same time. inb4 everyone got it except me. Otherwise, solid art, the cover and the monochromatic fight double-page are my favorites. Missed opportunity to add a puzzle about Alaisa getting beaten up lol.

>Pauline
Really hyped about this matchup. I liked Maiden's colored art, the giant bucket in the sea, and Pauline's perspective. (Tea Party are the real winners of this round, getting so much art even from the opponents) M4's side stories and /eternalcrab/ crab comics are great too.
Pauline is a beast. Feels like we are witnessing a successful mangaka beginnings here. I'm very curious what Maiden was about to say before the spraying.

>Lustless
can't believe Lustless managed to channel Chris-chan's spirit just for her entry. Dex had the spirit, but it was tl;dr. Half of the panels were the audience reacting, Dex thinking... could've been much shorter imo.

>Boberon
I guess my Clowngirl Fanclub membership will be revoked after this vote. The clown gang was adorable, but they didn't stand a chance against Boberon's impeccable animation. Breathtaking.

>Vivian
I went with Vivian's which had colors and better art.

>B*dyc*unt
Poor Vormio, imagine losing against GM's shitty MSPaint scribbles.

>Scrimblo
I tried to be as unbiased as I could for this one, I love the two a lot. First: based Amy. Her artstyle is optimized for cute girls, and it translated very well to Scrimblos and the other crabs involved. The story was adorable, I giggled at the Turtloli mugging lol. Heartwarming last page.
I was surprised by Scrimblo's art, much more detailed than before, resulting in a mix of cute and... not cute. The shading and colors look very nice, especially in the two panels with the troupe and tea party. I liked how the monsters' RPG capacities and Amy's illusions were (going to be) used. The unfinished anim broke the tie: anon was definitely preparing something great and fun, eat shit Adobe.

Thanks Turtlebro, and I'm glad you liked it. I'll be honest though, except for the first few pages with turtloli it's completely broken. I keep thinking about "fixing it" for real, but aside from being unfinished there's just a bunch of stuff I cut out that I don't know how to make work again. The only way to really do it would be starting over.
For example, I was going to have a lot more going on during the fight with the tentacle monster, like a page where the manarchy guys show up in a tank. When they fire the cannon it misses completely, then they start scrambling to load the "second round". I guess it's a fitting end to the joke that this page also didn't show up in round 3.

Tea Party? I will focus on them as a team first and as individuals second although I will make some observations about the authors where I think will add up.

Penelope started strong with a +10 page entry and fizzled out at the end, as we all know. The character definitely deserved to be captain, even if the anon behind her was almost null on the social side.
Because I feared they might get over stressed or find themselves in a position they weren't expecting, I immediately paired Penelope with Balkari, because Balkari anon has tournament experience, and more importantly, understands the GM.
I found her design and background very interesting, but overall it was her male version in r2 that I was stuck with. A poetic way to go in every way. They rose to the occasion the first 2 rounds, for sure. I choose to believe that he left without goodbyes, rather than in a rude manner as some anon comments suggested.

In the event, Balkari could easily have been the captain of a team, once again. And BalkAnon is solid in all aspects, reliable. I know what he is capable of and I have the impression that in these events, he could always deliver more, but never does - this tournament did not change that fact. All well and good with Balkari, but she strikes me as just a new iteration of an archetype that BalkAnon really likes, a second-hand Azu, the OG.
I have an anime rivalry with BalkAnon and he's growing stronger - someday I'll kick his ass in a tournament, no doubt.

Pauline? It only takes a glance to know that in the art dept she was the best in the team. But there are many aspects to take into account here, and in those she was a mystery. Well, it turns out that she lived up to my expectations.
I liked the fact that, even if the user never interacted with the community beyond the entries, one could be sure that they'd be there when the time came to deliver.
I understand that you don't want to dedicate more time to the social aspect of the tournament, however I hope that at least you interacted with your team, which is/was vital.
The character has a lovely design and a personality to match. PaulineAnon would have received much more art -and drama- if they had interacted more with the rest, for sure. It was nice to have you in the tournament, hope you had fun and hope you'll show up for another time.

Princess Dex: by including her in the team the theme was clear: a team of girls to counterbalance Manarchy. The character herself gave the impression of being solid in all aspects, but nothing particularly outstanding, a perfect mid tier to add to a team that already had a solid top 3
My impression is that the author was not up to the ambition of the character. Character that he kept talking and talking about but not showing with solid art and narrative.

Amy: my impression was that the team needed someone like Amy appeared to be -for me-: another Lain clone, to add to the team's range of personalities. Based on my early observations, I rated them for a low mid tier - assuming they knew/wanted to draw more than just cute girls. Didn't happen.
Amy was always more interesting in opposing entries.

Tammy Mato: The team mascot. They talked everything PepeAnon and PaulineAnon never did, sadly.
She's a tomato with legs - at best, I was hoping for some meme power but it never happened. At least not thanks to the user's own efforts.

As a team, they had a solid chance (my top 4).

I'll answer the rest later.

Those are fighting words, bitch.
About my effort, yes. I have said with no shame I limit the amount of effort I mantain in the tournament. I'm here to have fun and play doll games with ocs and stressing about a fantastic art piece would ruin it for me. In terms of writing I do give it a more serious attempt.

I seriously wish people would stop calling me like Chris Chan. This does not look like my art, this is not how I draw a woman, its a backhanded compliment saying my stuff looks like shit. I understand you may not have meant it like that, but that is what youre saying. I know my art isnt that good, I know its amateur, but its not this bad. I can draw bodies from different angles and poses, the arms and legs are proportionate on my bodies.

>> No.6755206

>>6755103
Anon, at your level, it doesn't matter much, don't sweat it.
What truly matters is looking back one year from now and seeing if there is improvement.

Cause Chris-chan lacks the most important skill of all, which is self-awareness. He has the ability to draw whatever he wants because in his mind it's perfect, and the drawings are just visual guides to symbolize what he is imagining.
You seem aware that you need to push your current stuff further, so you likely won't be Christ-chan in the future.

Right now, whatever technical superiority you might have over him is not relevant enough in the average viewer's eyes, because you haven't broken the appeal barrier yet, where your limitations can get masked by stylization, instead of just looking like a shortcoming. That takes a while, no shame in it. Be patient and keep drawing.
The reason people might admire "your Chris-channess" is the confidence. Most are too self-critical to release anything publicly before it looks amazing, but you put yourself out there and still deliver fun stories with it. Good job, keep at it.

While you may not be the most technical artist, your work ethic and efforts are apparent in your comics on top of excellent story-telling filled to the brim with personality. I think people comparing your work to "Chris-chan" are just taking one look at the art and forgetting everything else that makes it good which is honestly really disappointing since your work has so much more to offer.

People can try to justify it as much as they want, but comparing any artist to Chris-chan for whatever reason is still rather insulting especially when people wouldn't be calling you that if you simply drew better.

With this all said, I hope other people failing to understand to appreciate your work doesn't ever deter you from doing what you do. It's rough out here in these streets but the people who love your stuff will continue to love it, and the people who don't, just won't.

Together with Blast Rites, I call them the two "leftovers" teams, because they were the last to be assembled and any of their members could have swapped teams, except for Alaisa and Chuckson. Those two were not supposed to be together in order to avoid repeating the formula of the last tournament. I knew from the beginning that I was going to face them each other before they thought they were untouchable. Well, one of them at least.
My goal was to match these 2 teams in power level as closely as possible, however there was a miscalculation: Cassia underperformed and Kwabin overperformed.
While Chuckson had an aura of main character and invincibility, the Rosechuds had the most experience among their members by far and, most importantly, the Janitor.

Vivian? The author's most well-known character and one of the most iconic of the tournament, with a comic on her own and 3+ designs for all tastes. Sprout Vivian was a blessing. I think we all know what Winnerino is capable of when he sets his mind to it, besides being a very active veteran. Which is why I was surprised to see him jobbing twice. Let's not forget that he also gave life to Wietse and Berbie when he could. A well deserved headliner position, even though the pressure was apparently more than he bargained for in the end. Performed as expected.

Alaisa? New character from a veteran author. Interesting design, simple to digest background and pretensions of making the Champion's Victory a family tradition (KWAC). Unlike Vivian, this character was invented like 15 minutes prior Stage 1.
As for the author, if there is apparently a hole in my impeccable logic, he's the one to let me know - most wouldn't even notice it. Solid in all areas just like Winnerino, and in some perhaps more so, more experienced but with less charisma.Performed as expected.

The Janitor? :3

Mike: An interesting character whose technical requirements are still above the author's offer. Although less artistically experienced than most of the team, Mikeanon did not disappoint and was steady throughout, always. Although Mike was unlucky this tournament, I find it hard to believe he wouldn't do better if he kept improving as he did here, installment by installment.
Female Mike>Standard Mike

Femboy elf: Chel with a pecker. I didn't know what to expect from this crab. And sadly that didn't change. I was under the impression that they could be moderately competitive if they were allowed to draw their fetish OC. But they dropped as soon as they found out that in this tournament you can't fuck around.

Clowngirl: the author is great and could destroy us all if only the planets aligned for the proper conditions to occur. Superb design that was forced to be a character/contestant at the last minute. Something the author clearly did not expect. The Rosechuds would have been OP if Clowngirl was using her real power, but alas, the planets didn't align.

TLDR The team with the most clowns.

Kevin? One of the surprises of the tournament along with SRU for me. So much so that I made him my pet in exchange for Contestro in the second round. In fact this piece>>6755070 was originally going to include the robot as a seat.
At first I found Kevin as a design uninteresting - his backstory was also vague until the very end. But if he got this far it's because he somehow was molded into whatever his author wanted him to be at the time, from cute tadpole to porn star, from mindless animal to savage beast. And then there is the quantity of his production, breaking the record of pages delivered by any crab to date: +100 and, even better, in a solid and effective style.
Kevin lacked experience and presence for the first 2 positions, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a headliner next tournament.

It really doesnt discourage me and thanks for saying so many kind things. I told you Blast Rites and Rosebuds were the themeless teams!!!
(Troupe suffered an identity crisis with Honquitta's demise, but that wasn't on GM.)

At any rate we made it work, so did Blastbros, and I wouldn't have had it any other way.

This tournament was basically rigged in my favor:
-Round 1 - Face most skilled artist, forced to outperform and win on a storytelling basis;
-Round 2 - Face (tied) strongest crab for the chance to keep the belt, forced to work with limitations, lose by a hair;
-Round 3 - Face my favorite Crab II entrant, Chadwick R1 was simply masterful, wouldn't have dreamed of having my own character's fate crossing with his. Won because he might have gotten too ambitious, so I get the gold AND a top-tier comic at the end, imagine not being me right now and getting all these perks, lmoa@u

GM tell us what you think of the Troupe.

I love my team but imo they're the most disappointing team here, Fernando and Scrimblo were great, Contestro and Paulus were fine but were underwhelming. Losing Honkita and Anzu fucked us hard.

As for Abby I feel like she didn't really have a team, I tried to make it work but I wasn't sure what to do with a mute and a gnome, Abby just felt out of place.
Also I feel like Abby's been underrepresented here, I swear tutaloli's "canon" ending was great, but seeing Abby shoved so far out of focus that it made me a little upset. That pic was way too good! Don't do Abby dirty like that!

Let me tell you about the Troupe tragedy.

I tried my best not to let personal preferences influence the formation of this team, but I couldn't help it. Alongside Chads, I considered it one of the most powerful teams, probably even in the top 2. But then tragedy struck - Honkita and Anzu, who were ranked number 1 and 3, dropped out. Right then and there, I knew it was the end.

Honkita was one of my favorite designs, with a distinct and captivating style. Early on wondered if the artist could do more than just draw in a style reminiscent of decades past their birth, but my worries were eased when I saw their impressive animation skills in a video they uploaded. Unfortunately, it seemed that they couldn't handle the responsibility and the constant pressure outside of their comfort zone, leading them to leave. How do I infer/know this? Well, they continued posting more of the same content regularly in other threads, as if nothing had happened.

The impact of their departure on the tournament was profound, leaving behind lingering psychological damage that won't be easily forgotten.

Fernando was the character I truly wanted to love. BUT! There was never such a dichotomy between character and author. When I read his comic, I was captivated, believing there had to be a sophisticated and skilled author behind it all. However, reality turned out quite different, and now I feel like Fernandoanon should also be a mute character XD.

My expectations were high - I envisioned him as a captain lurking in the shadows, ready to take charge of the team when Honkita left, and to lead the entire circus. Sadly, neither of these came to pass. He did what was necessary, but nothing more, nothing less. For such a popular character, we craved more depth and development. But what we got was the result of sexing him up as a passive twink instead of a killer acrobat (then clown).

>> No.6760318

>>6760306

As a sex icon? 10/10 As a replacement captain and leader? 0/10. Nice style - simple narrative, but effective. More of Fernando is always a good thing, but I can't help feeling let down. Ferniebros, it didn't have to be like this.

Anzu was similar to Honkita in my hopes for their talent. I had great faith in their style and was truly impressed by the few pieces of pixel art they created before their departure. Undoubtedly, they were very talented. I included Anzu in the team when they posted an image of her as a clown, thinking that it showed a willingness to embrace the circus theme.
However, much like Honkita, Anzu left too. Fortunately, they had the courtesy to privately explain their reasons to me. Although not as well-known as Honkita, Anzu's absence is just as deeply felt by those who were aware of their skill and potential. They will surely be missed.

Abby was not the strongest member when she first joined, but she eventually became a key player, regardless of the outcomes. While others seemed to have an easy time gaining recognition, Abby earned her place in the /crab/ collective imagination through her art and contributions.
She almost made it into Blast Rites, but I made a last minute change when she made the joke about hating clowns. And I said to myself: How funny it would be to put someone like that in the circus team, haha. Well, I was writing a tragedy without realizing it.
Another factor was that Abbyanon was champion together with Chucksonanon in crab1, so I didn't want them together. And yes, she was together with Paulusanon, another former champion, but let's just say that this combination was not as dangerous as Chuckson-Alaisa.
Each Abby installment got better and better, but their opponents were hungrier for glory. And let's be honest, they put in more effort, or at least their efforts yielded better results. Next time, Doughboys 2 will be possible if you can get rid of the bad taste you got from all this.

Another key player in this tragedy. I expected a lot from him, and I ended up disappointed. Top 3 with Honkita and Cassia. The difference? Here I had something*** to do with it.
Being one of the first to sign up for the tournament and presenting an introductory comic showed great initiative, which I admired. I was fond of his design, leading me to give him special attention as the GM's pet/favorite in the first round. However, I must admit that I didn't take him seriously enough and matched him against a meme opponent for a meme sport.
I felt guilty so I decided to give him priority in r2. However, he did something unpredictable: he revived Berlo and this...this is not easily forgiven. Although the truth is that I couldn't find a better way to cushion the loss of some members and the fact that now Contestro had to take responsibility for Berlo (together with his team ****) that round. Yes, I had no choice but to give him a zombie duel, an easy one for him to win and to avoid gaps in other duels. But again, he hardly put any effort into it.
In r3, I wanted to make amends by giving him absolute priority. Recognizing his thirst for action and violence, I matched him against Kevin as requested, disregarding Kevin's list in the process. The result? It's there for all to see. Nothing more to say.
Hope we can forgive our sins one day.

Berlo? He should stay dead.
I was intrigued. I admit that it was here that I realized that I cannot control or predict everything. The fact that the crabs can write elements like this without my consent was and will be a powerful tool in their hands and a factor that you rarely find in events of this type.
I offered BBC to steamroll the next two rounds, but they turned me down. Well, they chose to use Berlo, perfect. But, did all the team members make the effort to bring him to life? Not at all. Now he's back in hell, where he belongs.

Scrimblo? The only victims here. MY BOYS DID NOTHING WRONG. :3

This is amazing I mean holy shit, I dont want to praise one aspect and forget another. You have an amazing eye for detail and character, everyone is super expressive and detailed. Usually my criticisms of these animatics is too much talking and jokes, but I am almost going with the opposite here because it was showing only the necessary and assuming I knew a little too much about Vormio. I do not, and still do not, understand him and that made this difficult to follow. But I respect the hell out of you for doing (what im guessing) is a respectful portrayal of him. And you didnt overdue the emotions, it was all done very nicely and with class. Thank you!

I’d like to clarify that this is mainly my opinion on this particular entry. Not about Manarchy as a team or in general. Normally, I prefer to keep my opinion to myself, specially when it's not really flattering, but I think I owe it to you after so much effort and dedication.

Final Fantasy style presentation 10/10.

Meme Intro: These intros/outros were my least favorite part of all your entries. I think they misrepresent all characters, specially your own, and don’t find them particularly funny, even less so if it includes American juvenile humor - sex, farts and poop, haha. The Stage entries are sacred, why can't you be normal and shitpost anywhere else just like the rest of us?

Yes, I looked like a smug wojak while I was writing the following: Compared to the next two sequences, i.e., the entries themselves, I understand that the substance of this intro is pure meta-narrative, disguised with fictional characters - it shows us once again how intrinsically connected you are to your OCs. And you are willing to show them as petty and immature in order to deliver a message that really belongs to you, the authors. The other characters are just projections that react in an ideal way to your personal expectations. In a few years' time, come back and see if this particular sequence adds anything to the whole entry or if it is necessary at all. If not, you will then be in my place now.

TLDR Narrative wise, unnecessary. As personal development, somewhat necessary.

Akio: The hype is back. Like Chudwick's entry in r1, the time difference allowed this entry to be a direct response to Balkari's entry. I don't think it would have been possible for it to have been so effective a month ago.

Never relax.

First of all, Akio anon, I'm aware from your past work that you are far more artistically capable and that, over and above the extra time, you had to edit everything on your own.
Therefore, the creativity in camera angles suffered and proved limited: almost always at eye level, rarely angled and of simple composition - more suited to a sitcom than a deathmatch. The characters were as vertical and frigid as the columns of the ring - the dynamism was due to the video editing and not to the art. And the biggest crime, no Berbie.

However! The clarity of the art and dialogue was always there and the colors were very well placed, poetic.
The pacing of the story was perfect, not a second too long or too short for any shot. At times I forgot it was a cinematic and I was hooked as if it were an animation - using anime production tricks, I see.

The sound effects were adequate and the music was, unlike your previous entries, tailored just perfectly to the art. Yes, to me the Chemical Brothers made the music just for this video. No one can convince me otherwise.

It also has me thinking about the long term consequences of participating in /crab/. At this point, No'e appeared more in Manarchy's harem than in her own comic. Maybe it's for the best.

The best part aka the climax reminded us why we love Akio. It was very effective and a fitting conclusion to the character's foray into the tournament. That's how we'll remember it, I believe (get it?).

Your editing skills were fundamental to Manarchy's existence, I can’t stress this enough. Overall, your best work to date. That cocky cat deserved a correction!

==============

The King's gaze. Ah, I almost feel out of place in my own duel. I think it's Vormio who owes you feedback as here BBC was little more than a bridge to the romance you two forged, or rather, you wanted to forge with Vormio.

No, I'm not jealous. This soap opera is not what Alexis deserves!

I'm a yandere?

Now I understand why you were so annoyed by Vormioanon's attitude, it's clear that you appreciated Vormio and his JRPG involution in a great way and I dare say you took it seriously. Personally I would have liked you to ignore all the absurd and poorly developed ramblings that were Vormio's kids and focus more on Alexis, baka!

With 3 entries on the table I'm starting to notice that you can't take Alexis seriously, baka bakashi. As if you were in a Marvel movie, you have to put a little joke here and there (Tammy Mato) or change your tone all of a sudden (Vormio Vision) when you think it's all too serious.

No, Alexis is cool and wise, a tragic hero reserved like in my comic...right? Or maybe I was the clown who took him seriously when I shouldn't have?

This, gentlemen, was not a three-way duel. It was a love triangle from the start.

The art: your obsession with detail and your more trained illustration style suffers with continuous narrative, movement and dynamism - the number of lines is there, but they are not used efficiently. That's where your lack of experience shows. I know, it hurts to spend so much time on a drawing only to have it last a fraction of a second on the screen. That's why I chose the comic as a format, there I can compact and reduce the details, hiding them with stylization or advantages of the format such as the size and shape of the panel. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to draw/suffer Alexis so much.
You have the talent, I invite you to edit or animate on your own to understand the timing, to know where to put the viewer's attention and guide their gaze to where the message is - learning to communicate with the minimum becomes essential on many occasions. BBC and Vormio were simple potato bags and you had to make 'em complicated, baka. I think that's your biggest vulnerability, you work so hard that it works against you.

The snow? Great. Whoever applied it. I liked it.

The music and audio: Cool and Epica.

Your best entry but I personally like your r2 just as much.

Luv Kwabexis. Simple as.

The ending. Oh the ending. We cannot talk about the ending. That's Chads responsability now.

Yes, indeed, I chose Alexis and Vormio not only to get back into action, after so much GMing, but as a show of respect to the artists behind it as best I can - and above all, to give them both a more dignified exit and finish them off with some dignity.

Thanks for critique of the round 3 entries, I wasn’t expecting you to be this thorough about the entries. You touched on several things that made me feel the need to respond back, not to change your mind on anything but to make you better understand my mindset on some things.

Final Fantasy style presentation 10/10.
Glad you liked it, Yoshitaka Amano is my favorite artist and ‘Final Manarchy Zero’ had such a good ring to it I had to pitch it akiofren and we made it a thing. I drew the picture and akio did the sprites and ‘menu ui’ on of my favorites part of doing r3 :)

Meme Intros

These are simply me and the team taking the piss and having fun. I can see how they can see as ‘Americian juvenile humor” and the like but they are there as silly little reminders for my team and the people watching it not to be take the tourney so damn seriously. Without them we certainly wouldn’t enjoy the tournament or the content we made as much without it. You were right in pointing out the meta-aspect of the shorts, it's there, but we mainly wanted to show the boys just having fun together and making the best of a shitty situation that they were in.

The King’s Gaze

I can’t understand how you feel like a third wheel in this entry, and I agree 100% that Vormio didn’t deserve even a crumb of a fraction screentime that they’ve gotta in this entry and my effort to include them in the animatic was completely wasted on some who didn’t deverse my efforts. But my decision to make them take center stage ultimately boiled down to what would be the most intriguing story to tell rather than playing safe a making a by-the-numbers fight. I originally wanted to kill Alexis in a glorious bloody battle and give you’ll a taste of the ill fated king’s backstory that ended with a desperation coin toss that bodycount would’ve done. I had music picked and I started storyboarding immediately and everything!

>> No.6765345

>>6765344
Sadly, you weren't picking up what I was putting down and heavily insisted that a fight and a coin toss wasn’t allowed and I couldn’t just tell you my gameplan was so I relented. I was complete unsure how to go about the fight didn’t help that the third wheel kept feeding me all this nonsense tl;dr info about what they wanted to do with your OC and theirs and keep insisting that we all was going to collab ( thank god that didn’t happened) and what not. I also wasn’t sure what to do with bodycount herself because she was incredibly limited in abilities and I didn’t know how to make her ‘interesting’ as a fighter and since she only summoned souls and nothing else. Had I know about the core early in the writing process I would’ve done something interesting with the concept and in turn our characters. But even then I feel our entries would’ve been identical because I would’ve still likely killed Alexis in the void much like you did.

So in the end I came up with the entire that you saw. A death battle spilt between the perspectives of a heavy delusional schizophenic who couldn’t comprehend the mortal danger they were in till it was far too late and a Dragon King who had zero intentions of saving her but still showed her a shred of compassion before ending her miserable life. I could’ve more with alexis but I was burned out, soured on the tourney and i didn’t want a melodrama 10+ min entry that had too many story elements in it. Sorry if the bout didn’t live up to your expectations. I intentionally tried to come up with ways to make Bodycount so it didn’t see like I treated her like an afterthought in her own fight. Please understand

The Art

You got me here, boss. I know nothing of animating, editing , hell I knew nothing of making animatic (or what is even was) till this tourney. I will take your advice and pick up animation in the near future (I planned to learn editing so Akiofren didn’t have to stretch themselves so thin) and I would kill to learn how to work smarter and not harder after this tournament and the schizo hoops I when to just to get these entries done lol

Akio edited the snow and many of the effect in king’s gaze was me ask if she possible do something in the program and her figuring it out in real time. I selected the music for my entry. And Im happy to here that you luv Alexis, I adore bodycunt too, and I had a feeling you were itching for a good fight and had a feeling you were phoning it in during /crab/1 though I didn’t know you were THAT far above me in artistic abilities. Unironically the best artist in crab, and I'm glad I got a change to have you as an opponent.

If you have any critiques on team manarchy as a whole I would be happy to hear it.

Thank you for your critique GM-sensei!!

Regarding the meme intros, I agree that they don't necessarily add anything to our animatics, as they're more our way of responding to shitty situations by making content out of it, just like how round 2's poked fun at half our team quitting. Kinda like a, "Go ahead and give me your worst, I'm just going to take it and make something out of it!!"

>Like Chudwick's entry in r1, the time difference allowed this entry to be a direct response to Balkari's entry. I don't think it would have been possible for it to have been so effective a month ago.

I agree. My entry was already finished (spent the last few weeks editing The King's Gaze/making the intros) but I think narratively it wouldn't have been as powerful to send it on time, not as an entry for /crab/, but for myself. I felt relieved when I initially left, it was like a massive weight was lifted off my shoulders, but I couldn't shake the feeling of not only letting down the people who were looking forward to my entry, but myself as well. I felt like I had betrayed the very thing I had fought so hard to believe in, and found it near impossible to move on. I'm glad I left when I did even if at the time I hated it, but I'm glad I came back to make things right. I guess despite everything I still believe?
This tournament ended up challenging me a lot more than I anticipated, not just as an artist/editor but as a person. In spite of the good and the bad, I'm glad things played out the way that they did, I think I was forced to get stronger because of it.

As for the lack of dynamism in the art, very much noted, I crave fun angles like you wouldn't believe but was too scared/tired to attempt during the time crunches. But now that I have more free time I'm ready to chase those art gains and get even stronger!!!

Geez, that's awfully nice of you anon, idk what to say to that lol.
But to answer your question, I don't think I will for a multitude of reasons. These past few months for me have been like living an entire shonen manga with more arcs than I care to recall. I think I grew a lot from it and I'm glad we stuck through it to the end, but at the same time it was an utterly exhausting experience and required a lot of personal sacrifice.
During this tournament I remembered how much I love video editing and am excited to pursue it further for my own personal projects, so I don't know if I'll even have the time to participate if I decide I want to. Plus I don't want to hold onto old glory either. I ultimately got what I wanted out of this experience, and then some, so I can happily move onto different things with a newfound confidence. I think at most, I'd just be a free agent or maybe just randomly pop in to cheer on the crabfrens, kinda like our predecessor, Super J.

But just like how I said in my very first speech for round 1, I hope our work inspires others to work hard and create something amazing for themselves in the future, something they can look back on and be proud of. Who knows? Perhaps crab3 will attract some new players that completely blow Manarchy out of the water. I think that'd be one hell of a sight to behold, but it's ultimately in your own hands whether or not that happens.

Frankly, they took it so well that I feel a little pedantic now. I made this meme to sum up the situation.

The coin thing was never a limitation or quirk exclusive to BBC. It was actually imposed by the GM and BBC just executed the result. If it wasn't BBC, I could have used another minion, although I kept quiet when I saw that you were intrinsically associating it with BBC.
I can reveal it now because it doesn't matter anymore: when I created BBC, I based it on Ellie, my OC, universal scourge and protagonist of the comic where the GM came out -you saw her already-.
Veteran crabs knew that much. It was my way of saying: Hey relax, it's not the real one, with which you'd have 0% chances, it's a dummy with which you have a 50% chance of success.
If I had lost, BBC would have danced for a while and then exploded in a bloodbath. But it lasted so long that I decided to give them a story.
If a cointoss had been made, it would only be by streaming and there would be no way to escape the result. That's why I "phoned" in the first tournament, I didn't need to put any effort since the result was already available.

Here I wanted to take the risk and play like everyone else. Without limitations.

Hey, the GM is the ultimate virgin, that hand should be hovering

The three of us are growing mightily. I also criticize myself all the time just as I criticize you, however I keep it to myself.
Yes, as I shall reveal in the remaining pages of my entry: Our duel was between a king and a queen, between a sorcerer and a sorceress. The parallels were too tempting to ignore. Alexis allowed me to do something that I hope you will find interesting.

Akiochan, it would have broken our hearts if even you didn't believe in Akio when the world needed him the most, everything would have fallen apart. Thank goodness you came back and in a big way.
I will do a review of Manarchy at some point in this thread.

Chads' review

One of the two teams that I worried was a bit more powerful than the others. But in return none of the members had previous experience in /crab/, kinda...Chadwickanon had participated in at least one tournament before, tho.
This team was one of the first to be assembled and after the fact, I couldn't separate them - almost any other crab didn't match or was too excessive. There are no lowtiers here, the weakest of this team -Nathan- would beat the entire cast of any other non-crab tournament.
After Manarchy and Tea Party, the tourney was in dire need of testosterone so my concept was to recruit tough guys, soldiers who would test the authority of the sergeant. And yes, Leuca is the female token.

Sgt. Chadwick: Present day godlike dictator and architect of revolutionary transportation infrastructures (zip lines).
I know the author well, for 4chun standards, our comic protagonists (too powerful for /crab/2) have been at war since time immemorial and I suspect that's why Chadwick takes it out on Alaisa so excessively. That’s how the author copes.
What can I say that hasn't already been made clear? His art style, writing, experience and renown are among the highest - and bailed him out a bit in r2, but that's another topic-. He deserved to be headliner/ captain for sure, even though we knew he was going to have a hard time being up to the task because of his strict and disciplined approach to the craft, slow to go off script, but committed. Chadwick understood the bad guy role he was given and embraced it well and quickly. Performed as expected, and much was expected.
Once he's done with r3 in a few months, it'll be his turn to suffer the weight of the crown, haha.

Jed: A wonder to see the author awaken from the abyss to delight us with Jed. A character that never ceases to surprise.
In my mind, the author was a pretty cool idea guy up to that recruitment point, then ????, then he became a crab Champion. Kind of like finishing after a month of NoFap. A Glory speedrunner.
It was the moment he joined that I knew this wasn't a joke anymore and that I had to get my shit together. After all, the GM was Jed's prey, kek.
I knew he was going to stand firm and indirectly help the Chads (and me) with the management. And, although he didn't participate directly in /crab/1, I suspect he knows too much anyways and anticipates at least 1/24 of my moves, which is more than anyone else in the world. Performed better than expected. His r3 entry is one of my favorites in the tournament.

Boberon: One of Chads' unsung heroes. I knew the author was one of the most skilled and daring in the tournament, but it was still hard to gauge whether he was going to deliver or disappoint. As the author had an accident in which he broke all his bones and suffered total organ destruction, we feared that he was not going to be up to the level of his team after Stage 1. Then after R2 he woke up from the coma and, out of pity, I assigned him a user who was also in a coma, Clown girl. I didn't expect anything from either of them, but they both surprised me. Boberon came out of the regeneration chamber and learned to animate with the foot that healed first to get there in time to sweep the floor with Clown girl, not bad. A shame his infernal title and daring fell by the wayside. Performed slightly worse than expected.

Nathan: The weakest of the team by far. Just by looking at him you could tell he was the least macho of the Chads. That's why I threw him to crocodile Jack in R1, so he would be humiliated by Manarchy and learn that in /crab/ you don't joke around. But no, by dint of hard work he earned the respect of the GM and proved to be the star of his own arc within /crab/. Totally unpredictable, one day he saves lives and the next he wants to poison a couple of girls. And now it turns out he wants to learn magic just because he's a virgin? Omoshiroi! This weakling went from low to high and still has a lot to prove. Performed better than expected.

Bernard: I wanted to kidnap the Otter...
This is the perfect crab. Solid in all areas, well written and believable in every situation. Always true to himself and the most compassionate voice in a team of sickos. Featuring introduction, comics between rounds and, soon, an ending. All with a coherent narrative. The author accepted the self inflicted L even though she won by votes in r3, talk about a power move. The average crab should learn from this role model, and yes, Alaisa anon is no longer my favorite example. The only bad thing? Bernard is not the Otter lady and the author hasn't dubbed the Dorothy meme yet. Performed better than expected.

Leuca: The only woman to ever have gay sex with a man. Although directly she was not very remarkable during the first two stages, it is undeniable that she assisted all her fellow teammates like no other, that is where her influence was demonstrated: indirectly, in the shadows. She awoke in the r3 and has since become popular - and taller. Quiet but shrewd. In the tourney she performed as expected. In the Thundercocks arc she’s overperforming.

The team was very robust, but so were others. This one was just very lucky on top, especially in Stage 2, but also in the end: If their Wish had not been ambitious, I would have given BBC’s gold to Eldritch, changing the fate of everyone.

>>6768132
All right, what's done is done.
I shared your image on the /crab/ server, we all cried.
I have little sympathy for people who quit without measuring words. I'm not here to give individual critiques of art, nor do I have the training to do so. I prefer to use the time to make art. But I will give my opinion on this work which I like very much:

I like how expressive the gestures of each character are, it almost seems like the last picture before the terrible end that awaits them. No, indeed, it is.
Beyond the refinement of the anatomy and so on, I really appreciate the rawness of the lines, the mood of the colors, the expressiveness of the gestures and the force of the message behind it - with proper context. Only the people who took part in the tournament can read this image and appreciate it in a way that outsiders cannot. I consider it an expressionist work, and to give it more technical depth would detract from that quality, imo senpai. Good luck from now on.

I love good stories and characterization more than anything else, so when I went into this I had the intention of doing work for a real narrative from start to finish since that's how I have fun. I honestly wished I had done more to show her personality but at the same time, I didn't know this character well from the beginning and /crab/ has helped me iron out what kind of person she is.

I liked how you handled the tournament overall, you can take a joke and can handle bullshit from other crabs well. I love your art, I think it has a lot of charm and technique.

I would say that the weakest point of the tournament was the documentation especially after migrating from /hywc/. Searching for rules, matchups, refs was annoying. Use more pins pls

We needed another team with a strong theme to counteract the obscenity I had committed with Chads, Tea Party and Manarchy. Enter Eldritch. Unlike say, Terrible Troupe, I hadn't announced the theme here, but this team soon understood what they had in common and embraced it early on, unlike Troupe. It's worth remembering that they were very popular at the beginning but deflated until r3, where they took a leap that almost brought them to the highest possible glory.

Carolyn: She started with a lot of hype and became a popular figure throughout the tournament for good reason. The character has a simple, but memorable design. She carries a serious, sophisticated and calculating aura that commands respect, plus she has a lot more depth than your average crab AND is a solid waifu. Yes, all the pieces are there for a headliner tier crab.
The author had promise but to get to this potential he needed immediate correction before he could buy into his own hype. He sensed this, so he provoked The Chadwick - and I made it happen.
I feared he would be one of those authors who never recovered after being put in his place, but no, not only did he prove to be humble but he doubled down not once, but twice. This paid off after he beat the then untouchable Chuckson (in the Bucket!). A legendary comeback that reminds us of Janitor in Crab1, with the difference that here Chuckson did not hold anything back.
But hey, let's not forget that Carolynanon draws with a mouse, can you imagine what he would do with two mice?
Little known fact: he admits that he likes the style of my BBC entry but what he doesn't know is that it was because of his style that I finally started to explore the rawness of pencil strokes a la oekaki - I just stood on his giant shoulders, baka.

Bellboy: From what little I had seen of his author it was clear to me that we had a solid number 2 for the team. Along with Carolyn, it was clear that I had to look for more horrors that could be used for the remainder of the team.
After Bellboy's brief stumble in Stage 1, I decided to lower the difficulty and, if the GM will forgive me for saying so: assign him to Lustless in s2.
Yes, one of the hidden mechanics as GM is to adjust the difficulty depending on the performance of the previous round. Of course, I don't/can’t always do it.
The move went better than expected and the author knew how to make both characters shine. I decided to give her a bigger challenge again in s3, but the author asked for occupied crabs in her list...and Abby.
So here's the thing, Bellboy was quite powerful and it was clear that Abby was a step down in difficulty, so I was curious as to what she had in mind. The first thing that came to mind was a ritual sacrifice. Cool, so I put my signature on it and let it be as Bellboy asked.
She went big time. Performed as expected. Headliner material if she decides to come back in the future.

Merachne: "Something something lack of participation and determination to work turned what should have been a good opponent into someone forgettable"
Performed as expected.

Senna: Poor horrid little thing, I didn't want her to suffer so I put her in between major horrors to be cared for.
At first I assigned her to Bellboy. It didn't go well. Then Kevin, mostly because they both coincided with the activity: Diving. It didn't go well either. In the end against Mike, another unlucky one. I consider that this is where Sennaanon woke up and delivered for the first time in the tournament. Just what his team needed, but a tad too late. (1/2)

The character has a very compelling concept, although it is far beyond what the author could provide, so more competent opponents can use Senna’s quirks against them. Only at the end did they prove that they could do -some- justice to Senna. Better late than never. Undoubtedly the least experienced of the team, but if they continue to put in the effort they did in the final, this could change in a couple of years, maybe. Performed a little worse than expected.

DragonLady: When I saw DL the first thing I thought was: this is a bundle of fetishes. But I kept quiet until I viewed the whole picture before judging. Final conclusion: yes, I still consider DL as such, but now I have a great respect for its author and their particular point of view on DL. So I won't question their vision, in fact I'll share it.
Without a doubt in my top 10 talents and one of the most wholesome and funny authors. Like the rest of the /rpg/ sisters, they didn't understand what it was all about until around s2. It's almost as if they expected someone else to finish their entry in a cooperative manner, haha, as if /crab/ operated as their home planet.
What can I say that DL hasn't already proven? Lacks the authority for a headliner, but DL is a perfect player 2. Performed better than expected. Ah, yes. She also came from her home planet with a little souvenir…

Turtloli: First things first *inhales* hahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaahahahahaha!!!!
My first impression of Turtloli was: what the eff is this? So in order to cease being ignorant, I dove into the lore of both DL and her - and found it fascinating. So I agreed to put them on the same team, eager to see them work together. (1/2)

Similar to DL in many ways and also their performance was better than expected.
But would you believe it? Instead of beating Jed or voting for Carolyn in S2, actions that would have given Eldritch the ultimate victory, Turtloli opted for the hardest way to get what she wanted: defy the GM himself to save her planet and get a happy ending for everyone. Masaka...not even a month old and she's already aiming this high?
Her entry in S3, as cute as it was, had to fabricate several weaknesses for the GM in order to work. The orb? It's just a wizard smartphone. Suffering damage from magic outside the Bucket? Ha! Who do you think put up those defenses in the first place?
Nerfing the unlimited power of the GM to even get close? Haha...hah....ah....Nobody dreams of destroying the GM's hat and lives to tell about it.

Pay your respects to the vultures, for they are your future, rpg chumps.

Overall a great team.
Had there been a round 4, the trend indicates that the tournament would have been under Eldritch control.
If you guys ,together, had had a less forced last minute plan to take on the GM, or even a more ambitious Wish…who knows? we wouldn't be under Chad’s control now.

I can feel your struggle, turning a bunch of ideas into a story IS difficult. A shame so much was cut from the tentacle fight, would've liked to have a taste of those G'tar-vczf cheese steaks.
In case your brain works like mine, my way to fix my artistic blocks was to spend a night brainstorming, listing all my ideas and not going to bed until I connected all the dots. Once I got the main ideas in order, I could picture the story and balance it to make it flow better.
For instance: I couldn't for the life of me find a way for Turtloli to convince Bear, and suddenly learnt that Bellboy was reduced to a bodiless head, at which point I was tearing my hair out. So I came up with the Bear clinic to cure Bellboy, which in the end fits nicely and gives Bear a reason to cooperate. Once this was settled, little ideas came after like telling Bellboy to take Senna with him (for the tongue ramp). It wasn't just because I wanted to draw Bear in a nurse outfit I swear...
Ofc no story or author is the same, so idk if my advice amounts to anything, sorry if it's a bit self-centered.

>>6780344
>90% of turtloli review is round 3 cope
Truth is, overthrowing GM was decided the instant the monsters joined the Terrible Troupe, I wouldn't be satisfied with only one team winning, everyone HAD to go home for the rpg adventures to continue. So I decided to /b/ the change I wanted to /ic/. I kinda assumed GM was going to find a bullshit way to send people home even if Chadwick won anyway, I was making the work easier for you old fuck.

The legitimacy of GM's weak points was reinforced by linking Eldritch entries together:
The Universe Orb is shown in Dragonlady and Carolyn's entries as well. The Lurker appears at the end of Bernard and DL's animation, Carolyn's dark shit is still there in Bellboy's entry, the staff breaking in Carolyn's entry was a vital point for The Plan to work... Notice how Dragonlady picks up Bernard's gun at the end of their entry? Well if I'm not mistaken, that's why she's the one throwing Bernard's Bazooka to Chuckson in ChuckQuest's cutscenes! That's how deep the lore goes.
See? the turtle couldn't have done it without the help of her friends!

Also just to confirm my suspicions, did you pair DL and Turtloli with Bear because we wouldn't stop collaborating with our enemies?

These are more like easter eggs than deep lore to be honest, these elements weren't introduced formally and only served as ornaments in the BG. Should've linked the entries together with character interactions and callbacks, not with breadcrumbs so obscure that no notices.

True, each still had their own stories to tell and weren't interested in making a huge crab ARG, easter eggs is a better way to describe it. Some of it ending up in Chuckson's game was pretty fun so wanted to share that before returning to my world.

Oh man the cheese steaks... My biggest regret is that no one got their cheese steaks.
I'm glad you shared your process, it feels self-centered to write so much meta-commentary, but I like the insight when I get to read stuff like this. It's also reassuring to know that I'm not the only one ripping my hair out.
My process is a lot like yours, but I play it more loose. This might sound weird, but I think of my writing like an elastic band that starts with a few short points, then I stretch it as I add and change stuff.
That doesn't really mesh well with comics, I think, especially as they get longer. Trying to change things up after I've already started drawing is a bad idea, so I really should try laying out (and sticking to) a more concrete plan.

I used to post here, not often but I would sometimes but got mocked so hard I had to just never come back till now and no It wasn't crit it was genuine mocking. I post on /hyw/ and I get legitimate criticism, stuff that has helped me improve while on a board that's apparently meant for crit I get made fun of for trying to improve. It just feels hostile and so are the people here. I don't know I just like being nice to people online even if it's too my own detriment but most of the time I get back what I put in aka im not a asshole so I don't get shit sprayed onto me. I don't get why people think it's funny or cool to be a mean asshole for no reason, and I never will. That's what a board culture is, it effects how others act, it draws a certain type of person in and /ic/ seems to ironically invite crabs pulling eachother into the bucket.
