You should just give up because there is no audience for non-Japanese manga. If anything you should just try webtoons but you will only be successful if you are Korean or a woman making fujobait.

Should I switch the priority from comics to indie games/internet animation if I want to get an audience and still want to keep my manga-esque style instead of switching to something full blow western? The Image Comics house style/drawing philoshopy and their digital colors don't appeal to me much, webcomics are dead outside of gookshit/fujoshit and capeshit is absolutely a no go.

I remember reading that there is a big comic creator in Japan right now with a hit series, and he is foreign. Don't remember which comic series it was, or his pen name or anything because I'm not a faggot, but it seems it happens.

All this said though, the chances of someone "making it" in manga, even if their japanese is perfect, is near zero all the same. Though you will likely have the advantage of being more original than isekai no.1437, because let's be honest, the Japanese are horrifically incestuously derivative in their creative works.

Anyway, just make a comic for here; people are obviously hungry for comics (as manga has proven), it has the advantage of culturally matching up with its readership (let's face it, japan has tastes that don't really agree with the average western palette), and you will have decent work/life balance compared to a Japanese author regardless of whether or not he's made it over there.

I think it's because of how westerners and japs have very different tendencies when it comes to writing. Getting the anime style down is the easiest part since it's quite flexible and you can just do whatever. But the thing I notice with westoid writing is that it's not raw enough, authors always hamfist some sort of greater cause or real world political shit and some convoluted story points 3 story beats into the whole thing instead of developing the fantasy more. It's why you see so much isekai shit right now too, nips like to service their audience and fulfill their fantasies while westoids like to be congratulated on some awesome storyline they thought of and how realistic and relevant it is.

This is actually very true. Americans are very big into allegories that get into politics, history, and philosophy. What seperates fiction from literature is usually how well the theme is written. Manga doesn't stray far from a few basic themes (hard work vs. talent, collectivism, the struggle of connecting with others) and goes all in on plot.

DLsite does and they'll even translate the description for you for free. I think they also have translation services for the full products but those come at a cost. https://www.dlsite.com/home/circle/invite?from_sp_circle_invite
I know a few gaijins who've made doujins in Japanese and sell them on DLsite or Booth. One guy doesn't even have good Japanese but his art is good enough to overcome that.

Yeah, it's dumb because they also have their own localization branch and clearly want (some) gaijin money. I know that Fantia can be used by foreigners but they won't pay you unless you hit a certain threshold because of transfer fees. Just checked their circle registration TOS for their storefront and they'll only pay out to Japanese bank accounts according to that. Either way, DLsite has looser requirements for things like mosaics so you're not really losing out by not being able to use Fanza.

Honestly I don’t get it, why would you as westerner make comics that are read right to left like real manga when 99% of the audience will be westerners themselves

It’s embarrassing and feels like self hating artists who wish they could have been Japanese and make a real manga

Just embrace the comic/graphic novel lifestyle

Also I am sure that a lot of Japanese mangaka themselves never make it, although desu is no surprise when their big hits are shit like “that time I turned my female neighbour into a cat” or some stupid shit like that

>> No.6785912

Pretty sure manga is more popular in the west regardless so you can still emulate manga if you want or do comic/graphic novel if you like it more. I don't think there's really any drawback if you choose what you prefer since it'll probably reflect better in the work

>> No.6785917

Honestly it's the opposite.
If you're a foreigner you automatically stand out and you speak languages that reaches people the Japanese doesn't.
You also understand a completely different culture. The big mistake I see from non-Jap mangaka is that they do the exact same shit the Japs are which is moronic
