I learned so much from here honestly, people share actual guides/courses/videos/books instead of "hurr just look up youtube" while providing constructive criticism the materials to help you not waste time. The other place I learned a lot from is a certain youtuber's server. /ic/ also does well by having a general for /begs/ to keep (us) them contained. The problem I had with many art servers is that they contain way more begs than int/pros.

I still have a very very long way to go and it's a bit embarrassing honestly because I used to be on tumblr and DA but no one gives proper advice. Idk I'm a bit bitter about it.

Go on tiktok or twitter and people will drag you down for talking about practicing fundies.

It's an alright place to get critique when you're a beginner but most non general threads are low powerlevel teenagers anxiously arguing and blogging about inane things (is this new thing good or bad? is it socially okay to draw this? am I a bad person if I learn in this way? can I learn how to draw if x condition? did you hear about what happened to y person on this social media website?). Stopped coming here regularly once I started getting customers. /sqtddtot/ is ok when you have software issues.

What would you guys like to see , both functional and socially, from an attempt at a good art community inspired loosely by what we have here on /ic/?

My initial idea for the general tone of the community is that people are allowed to be as blunt cruel or explicit as they want, as long as conversations stay on topic.
And only banning/dis-encouraging blatant isms (racism,misogyny etc) . With zero tolerance for dog whistling.
Some of you will roll your eyes at that point and call me a tranny. Im not a sensitive type.
But if you want a community of people who are serious about art, you can't provide a safe haven for blatant bigotry, it will turn away otherwise reasonable and insightful people who could be here talking about art.

Next major problem is what to do about the furrys,lolicons shotacons and other fringe art communities. I dont judge these people for what they do, but shit gets weird when you allow them in your community, and lets be real...how much talent and insight are we loosing if we drop the furry and lolicon sub communities ?

What do you guys want to see in terms of how content is organized and presented to users ?
I like the long lived threads of 4chan. Things like the oc redraw thread and various other challenge threads. As well as having a history of things like the /beg/ threads are great
But i also like scrolling galleries on pixiv
But reddit post format with each post having its own thread is also benificial.
What combinations of user experiences do you guys think would create the best, serious, constructive art community

Intensity in this context would be attempting big impressive time consuming pieces.
Or just grinding for hours non stop.
Or trying to cram as many studies of a subject as possible into a day to try to be able to draw it well by tomorrow.

I divide my sessions into:

Grinding excersizes for building strong fundamentals (lines, ellipses, perspective, Proprtional intuition etc)
Gesture drawing
Sketching from reference
Sketching from memory/imagination

The grind is 1hr (with a break in the middle) in the morning
20 minutes gesture drawing mid day
And then in the evening and at night I try to do 1 sketch from memory and 1 from reference.

Only started recently so I dedicate the most time to just grinding. I basically realized the meticulous way I organize my learning for software and math could probably be very effective for learning art too.

Even if this place can get rather toxic at times (it has improved a lot recently though), it's nice to be able to be in a place where people can share resources and knowledge. It's also nice for people to give advice and critiques.

a) Nobody, not even kiwifags, care that much about harassing anyone unless you're an actual, Andrew Dobson-level lolcow. So don't act like an assclown and you'll be fine.
b) Even if they did, the best, one hundred percent guaranteed way t stop being trolled is to just ignore the trolls, stop giving them attention, and wait for the heat to die down. The reason, say for example Chris Chan was literally trolled for years is because he kept violently responding to any sort of provocation like a dumbass.
