Depends on the size you want, I think I paid around 600€ for my screen tablet, but it's 24 inches and 1440p so the size really pumped up the price.

You can of course buy a Cintiq like the other anon and pay several thousand but it doesn't seem worth it unless you're someone that draws professionally or you are a very active hobbyist.

Also something to consider, I have both a screenless and a screen tablet, and the screenless feels far better to draw on with better precision and lower activation force so if you don't absolutely want a screen tablet you can get a better experience with a screenless. That's assuming you can get used to not drawing the same way you draw traditionally.

To anyone that uses Krita, what are the best settings/brushes/options i can set to if i wanted to partially mimick the style of Carlos Ezquerra?
Because i hate how flat my drawings usually are and i want to make the brush strokes seem more dynamic and the color shading/blending a bit more interesting.
Or any other tips using Krita is nice, i just mentioned Ezquerra because i think his style is charming.
And chances are some stuff is less about the tools and more about the skill, so maybe i should look into artists streaming/recording themselves using Krita and how they do it.

if you can find an expensive one used for that much then yeah. pc specs are more important for digital drawing than tablet price. you don't need to shill out thousands of dollars just to draw. at that point you're just paying for a name brand than anything.

That's fair. I use my screen tablet as a second monitor too but the contrast is a bit lacking which is probably my biggest annoyance right after the activation force being a bit too high for my tastes.
Speaking of which, what's the activation force on a cintiq like? I'd like something that is as close to traditional as possible, meaning if I touch the pen on the screen even lightly it leaves a mark.

My goal this year was to have a portfolio for the kid illustrations market. I think that I can draw cute/simply enough to get a job in that field. I trained for that until a month ago.
But the thing is, I dont like to draw that way. I want to draw more mature things. But I need a job and I dont think I can do it another way.

Bargue and other accurate copy exercises train your ability to measure and see angles and alignments first and foremost. That's the biggest takeaway you get from them. After a while you start getting a better sense for those things and it becomes almost second nature.
You use those abilities to do looser copies where the goal is to analyse and study the elements and methods of the image more than obtain an exact clone.
You don't need to reach some arbitrary level of xerox powers to gain permission to do regular studies, but being able to get the proportions close enough saves you a lot of headache.

>You use those abilities to do looser copies where the goal is to analyse and study the elements and methods of the image more than obtain an exact clone.
That's the part I was trying to learn. I'm at the point with my art ability that I can "xerox" my studies and clone them closely enough but I'm trying to move towards the part where I stylize and it make it into my own thing and that's where I've been running into trouble

>> No.6730780

>>6730648
Redrawing from memory does help a lot with reinforcing the weight something has in your visual library, so it's worth doing.
With stylisation you're looking for principles behind the person's solutions and problem-solving, so to isolate that and learn to apply it to different situations you could try to use that logic to draw a similar subject from reference.

Would people hate me, dislike me or cancel me if I ever make it because I got inspiration from AI towards certain things? I was fucking around with it when it was new because it was a new toy and I saw some interesrting things, researched artists like that, that were similar and added some of them to my influences. I would have never discovered artists I like without hat.

In a way, fucking with AI led to me changing my way of drawing so I see how people might just hate me for that.

I don't know what made you think those two replies were written by women but if you can ONLY spare 20 minutes a day to drawing, You're better off drawing random shit that you've got at hand (coffee cup, your chair, notebooks, books, etc. Simple man made stuff.) instead of looking for inspiration or gathering the resources to study. Like the others anon said, you've gotta be honest with yourself and come to terms with the fact that some of your hobbies have to give if you're serious about art, because this is a lifelong pursuit.

Why don't you try working out 3 - 5/wk and allocating those 4 - 2 days you've got left to draw? If you're this much of a time control freak, you should KNOW which activity/hobby can be replaced with drawing. Be real with yourself. Look at it from the perspective of exercise, I have never met somebody who goes through his entire weight lifting routine within 20 minutes, it's just impossible.

Being that said, if you think 20 minutes a day is enough to do all of this, watch Brent Eviston's "drawing guide" video course, he's ultra-beg friendly and teaches you the fundamentals to draw simple stuff.

Picrel for reference on my canvas sizes, most of the time when I end up making a piece too small is when I completely forget to resize it after sketching, though in other cases I end up miscalculating and make the whole piece still too small or disproportionately large.

CSP Question - TL;DR, Exported text is different than as seen in CSP.

After updating to ver 2, when I export, a lot of the text is formatted differently in the resulting images when compared to how they look in Clip Studio Paint. As you can see below, in this case after exporting, while the font size didn't change, the margins or padding or something must have changed because the line breaks occur earlier and the text breaks out of the text box. This shit sucks because I have to manually readjust dozens of boxes for each project.

How can I fix this? What's going on?

How or where can I find something to guide my drawing process and add some sort of structure to it? The complete and utter aimlessness unique to drawing is always what has kept me away from it. I never know what I'm trying to create or how I could possibly make it, which saps all possible enjoyment from the activity.

I can look at or imagine a subject, but I can't figure out any way to decompose a subject into lines, so it may as well not even exist. Since I can't make any mental connection between the subject and my work, I never have any idea whether I'm getting closer to or further from my goal with any given action, which is incredibly frustrating and makes it pretty much impossible to learn anything.

No. The purpose of studying Loomis is to learn the fundamentals of drawing and illustration. You expand from that foundation to develop your style.

You draw the subject in the tutorial enough to be able to draw it without a tutorial. Then you find references of similar - but a bit different - subjects and draw those using the principles of the tutorial. Then build upon that, and so on and so forth.
tl;dr: just draw

How do you increase your visual library?

Like I get that your supposed to look at references but how do you retain the pose?
I find that when ever I try to draw I usually end up so stumped on how to pose the character, that I give up on trying to draw. Or I draw the same 3-4 poses I know by memory and my sketchbook looks stagnant with characters always facing 3/4 turn.
I've done life drawing and gesture drawing but I can't seem to retain the information. Ive tried several different approaches. There's something just not clicking.

ask literally any college student, community or otherwise, if you can use their email to sign up for a student version of the software and coast on that for a while. But if you're just learning to use 3D software now I would just start with blender. I only use maya because I've been using it since 2014 and I can do shit super quickly and efficiently in it. But their are countless better 3D artists who do better work using blender and that shits free and has current plugin support. Plugin's for maya are typically 10+ year old at this point and there are no new ones being made by anyone. All the good plugin programmers have switched to blender. While Maya has been and still is the industry standard, that becomes less of a concern these days and going forward. Most companies were already allowing you to use either Maya or 3DsMax depending on what you used best and these days they just add blender to that list. So long as you can get the work done.

Does anyone know how I could recreate the shading/colouring that speedoru does?

I'm new to Procreate, and I'm trying to shade an area which I already colored, using a new layer. The layer is on multiply because I have an outline drawing and I don't want to cover it, the problem is the color on the shading layer turns out very dark and unlike the color I'm using. How do I solve this?

that's exactly what a multiply layer does. It multiplies the effect and makes everything very dark.

Sadly, as always, it's a matter of experience. Every time you fail, you'll remember the mistake and likely won't repeat it. There are a lot of mistakes one can make, though. The only process I could recommend is write up whatever you failed on last time, write bullet points what you would do to not repeat it, then check said notes while working.

No, I don't typically post my work here though I lurk /asg/ to give out helpful advice and redlines. I've been drawing a long time so I get the concept and know the feeling, i'm looking to make the process hurt a bit less as i'm trying to get my shit together. The longer I do this the more things hurt in a way where "you should know this by now, why are you still making mistakes in your own airk" deals a blow to the self-esteem and it gets tougher to get back up. Notes might help, I usually just internalize or commit to memory but writing it down might solidify it. Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

Every time I've been in that situation I've taken "inspiration" from it instead. Which is basically me trying to replicate it from memory again and again.
It never turns out identical to the original and each new drawing is slightly different from the last. In the end I end up having taken elements of each previous drawing and what I'm left with only resembles what I was trying to copy in the first place. If I show it to anyone else, even if they know the artist, they don't see the similarities. There's been times I've came clean and told them what I did and, at best, they'll mention a passing resemblance.
It's like evolving someone else's hard work to come up with your own thing. But I guess all art is taking what someone else hard work and making it your own.

Maybe it depends on the particular art scene you're in for how they react to what I did in the past. I think either consciously or subconsciously though everyone does it.
Obviously it's a bit different if you create a Simpsons style cartoon and call it the Simmons or whatever.

Someone's actual height is separate from how many heads tall they are. Two people who are the same height won't necessarily be the same amount of heads tall. A short person won't always be less heads tall than a taller person. Head size doesn't always correlate with height. Hopefully picrel can demonstrate this more clearly (South Koreans pay a lot of attention to head:body proportions kek).
That said, you can really just use whatever proportions you want. Imo anything between 6-8.5 heads will look pretty normal, so consider what would best suit your needs/character. On average, an adult will be around 7-7.5 heads tall. 6-6.5 is also pretty normal, though it makes a person look stumpy. Ideal proportions call for 8 heads.
