6703598 No.6703598 [Reply] [Original]

Thread to study the male body. Post your art, discuss artists, and post resources related to the subject of cute boys and handsome men.

Some resources:
>English Youtube channel with tutorials about ikemen/anime boys:
https://www.youtube.com/user/SirKite92/videos
https://www.youtube.com/c/Dospordos/videos

Rules:
>Do not take the bait or derail. Don't be a sperg.
>Only post SFW shota, link NSFW and suggestive from catbox. Don't post real life references.
>Don't fight about different male body types, shota/ikemen/bara. Nobody cares.
>No femboy/trans/traps/futa. Go to /salt/ for that.
>No tits, no coochies, no female body ratio.
>Don't sperg if a feminine male (not femboy) is posted, ignore if it's not your cup of tea, keep in mind the nature of stylization and simplification in anime and cartoon art styles before you choose to derail the thread, though crit is welcome like always.

>>6705777
Who do you think led them there? Painting fujo drew her own OC on computer before on the thread prior and then finished her own work when she revealed that she hated drawing on computer. It's all a scam, don't fall for it.

Pretty based ngl, you see the fujos literally made the oc threads what they are and you would know this if you weren't a literal newfag. noone is owed anything in the oc threads and that how its always been. If you wanted deliveries you should've drew characters that appealed to fujos. Now go cry about your skill issue in the oc thread.

This is how you do it. Take your sketch layer, make it the top most layer in your Layers menu, and make your sketch layer a MULTIPLY layer. Leave its opacity and fill at 100%.
Work with as many layers as you need to then color your work. This artwork here >>6709393 is using four or five at least. It has a base flat color layer (the light red) shadows (the darker red and some shadows on the face) another shadow layer for the "rendering' effect (probably just control+J, pasting a new shadow layer on top of the old shadow layer) and a highlight layer for all the shiny bits.
If you work from top to bottom, making your sketch layer MULTIPLY, you can stack your colors, shadows and highlights underneath with their appropriate layer properties (Sketch Layer= Multiply, Flats=normal, Shadows=Multiply, Highlights=Screen or Color Overlay). It's up to you how you want to rearrange how you work.
It upsets me when they don't give people the right information, deliberately misinforming others. We're not all like that. Hope this helps and good luck. <3

none of these anon, and I understand that rendering isn't easy but there is really no wrong way to color an image. Some artists just tend to paint over their sketches rather than use multiple layers to achieve the effects they desire, while others start in greyscale and colorized the overay/multiply layers. I'm still a super paintlet so working on one layer is pretty much an exercise in pure suffering however i tend to keep 3-5 rollbacks and the original sketch linear( incase I get filtered) and paint using layers to cope lol. What i found that works for me is keeping the linear separate and painting (keeping the bg characters forground seperate as well) then eventually turning the layer off the linear/ merging to finish it. best of both words because it gives the freedom to paint toogle through 50 layers to edit things.

Here's a gif process. Sometimes I'll do a solid full sketch (if I have a certain vision) before adding color, other times, I just start a doodle (like here) and just add on as I vibe it.

Everything is normal, except for in frame 3, I have multiply on when I throw shadows on and one gradient layer, that I like to add on, for color correction/balance before I just paint over.
Having too many layers is just a hassle. So I usually just have the sketch, flats, shadows, merge them and then paint over the whole thing. Maybe I'll keep the sketch in it's separate locked layer, but only because I like to see the progress from where I stated to where it ended.

reposting in case it helps:
This is how I would do it. Base colors on one layer, multiple shades (lighter shades for subtle forms, darker shades for crevices or within cast shadows) for the shadows on a multiply layer. The shading looks more stylized than trying to follow a light source so I decide where to place shadows based on what forms I want to add definition to. Use a soft eraser to soften some of the shadows, then use a blender to soften/blend out others. I'd use the soft eraser on shadows for narrow forms like the neck muscles or clothing wrinkles to retain clean edges, then a blender for wider/rounder forms like the pecs or other flatter muscles. Cast shadows keep their hard edges. I did a shitty job here but just try harder than I did lol

It's like having a adventure on paper, I know it sound gay, but honestly, that's how I feel. It's like your given a challenge and now you have to overcome it and figure it out.
>how do you transition between line drawing and coloring
Honestly I mostly play around with each drawing and see what happens.
ah, one thing that's important, I would say to keep in mind are values and contrasts. Anyone can put flats down, the tricky part (also the most fun) is the shadows, because now you have to think where light comes from and how it bounces around, also how the environments colors reflects on the subject.
I also mention contrast, that is too keep the image from getting muddy, I'd rather have things more blocked in/sharper compare to blending everything too much, making it all too muddy.

When having a more loose sketch, I feel more freedom in '''ruining it''' if you know what I mean, like, ''damn this sketch is shit'', but that's fine cuz I'm gonna paint over it anyway. When I sketch thing, it's more about giving me an idea or feeling how and where I want to put stuff, the end result may look very different from the initial sketch. Just don't put too much pressure on yourself, that it has to be perfect from the get go, have fun and see where it takes you, follow your gut instinct.

>> No.6715837

This is complicated. I’d say you just have to lean in towards stylization more than realism. Things like that crease by the nose just most likely won’t work since the feature is recognizably not on the anime version. There’s also bits like where you have him a significantly larger nose than the original version. Yes, the original nose is basically just a line, but there is a greater difference between a small line and a regular nose, and a small line and a smaller nose.

I agree. You have to give up on that detail bro. You add it every time and it makes the faces look worse. Realistic anime doesn't usually add more realistic facial features it just renders the features already there in more detail.

Thanks for the advice, guys. Pulled a double shift last night so wasn't able to work on the painting at all yesterday.
>Realistic anime doesn't usually add more realistic facial features it just renders the features already there in more detail.
You're right, and that's an idea I still have to think about. I think the problem is that I'm currently troubleshooting my current style. I've been studying Rubens, Jacob Jordaens, and Bouguereau without fully understanding why they make the choices they do. So it's all very new to me and still requires some effort. I fell in love with how they made portraits with their color choices and flesh tones, as well as their anatomical detail to the head (i.e. details that anime heads would ignore). However, just looking at some of Rubens' portraits - it's easy to see that while he still painted skin creases and folds that Boogs would otherwise remove - he still painted them in a flattering, yet realistic manner. That's at least the impression that I get. Basically my style is becoming less and less "anime" as I move closer and closer towards my favorite fine artists and their tastes.

I don’t really draw men but I’m trying to get better at it, how does this look so far?

>> No.6719926

>>6719882
Colouring it helps. If he is supposed to be dressed in finer clothes detailing like some patterns or lace.
Also think about things like; Does he need to carry anything in a day? How does he do that, in his hands or a bag or a scabbard? Would he need money or protection or tools of any sort? Additionally looking at historical fashion and what they did can be inspirational to include things that make the design more interesting.

>> No.6719931

>>6719916
Not bad for someone who doesn't draw dudes, I like how you did the muscle. The anatomy could use some tweaking, the legs are too long, neck is too short, head looks a little flat and torso is a bit short. Making the calves the longer half of the leg is also usually a stylization detail used on girls. I would move the knee down after shortening the legs.

God, this been an exhausting week. Some late night sketching because I'm sleep deprived.

>>6715781
Nope, self thought. Like the majority of artist on this board (I believe) started out as kids, by drawing your favorite cartoon/anime character and from there you just build on your visual gallery by learning new things by each drawing, you drew in a desperate attempt not to fall asleep during lessons in school. I have skimmed through Hogarth and I did like the stuff I saw, even if I feel some of it may be a bit stiff and over exaggerated, if I was a complete novice, I'd definitely use it, prefer Bridgman, would have definitely gone through those studies religiously as a kid if I knew about those books.
>>6715943
These looks very nice! Keep up the good work!
>>6717655
I Absolutely love to see a drawing evolve and transform, it's been fun seeing your steps. I think the trees look okay you could try refine some of it a little bit, if you feel it's bleeding into each other a little, but that's just me nitpicking. I also think the drawing could benefit if you make your two guys a bit darker/stronger in contrast to the bg.

Good attempt at perspective, I know how hard they can be, also like how you drew his face. Small critique I'd point out is his left foot a tad bit too big.
>>6719216
Looks like a fun sketch so far, I think what your trying to convey looks pretty apparent, maybe just the demon on the right, it looks like he's pushing his face upward toward the viewer, so the top of his head is kinda messing with that perspective, taking a bit too much space if you know what I mean.
I'd love to see you post the complete version when done!

no. deltoids go almost half way down the arm to connec at bone.much larger and not one tiny piece on the shoulder. the upper arm looks ridiculous as well. what arm has fucking straigh tline down the middle of 2 fat tubes. theres more muscles than that involved and the angle and orientation dont look like that when straightened out. that arm doesnt even look like it goes on that body either. just look at its proportions relative the head or how the arm with the ball looks like fucking the tiny armed freak from scary movie in comparison.

Exactly, a general isn't owned by any one person, so no problem if it's what the majority want. Voting on it is what's most fair. We only have 3 artists here who shotapost and it's inconsequential to them too since lsg is available. It'll be fine.

These threads have always been majority not shota though. I wouldn't really count it as a shota place. And it doesn't matter when /lsg/ exists. That literally is the shota place. It's not a big deal, there's still somewhere arguably better to post shota works.

yes because it's a thread for all the gay shit. Shota is just part of it
> I wouldn't really count it as a shota place.
Nobody is saying this

No, it's the same as /cbsg/. Shota is just a part of /lsg/

Eh yeah I agree with you on the last part technically yes, but ignoring technical meanings, it's personal tastes we're discussing here. If op goes by majority rule, I think the rules are getting edited next thread.
And again not much is lost when
-we don't get many shotaposts in the first place
-it's not like those artists are getting ran from ic generals /asg/ and /lsg/ are fine with it

If I’m detailing how are you not? It’s not my fault you’re too retarded to comprehend the incredibly simple concept everyone else seems to be able to grasp but you and your (limited) ilk. Very clearly stated in my original post that there are shota posters, just not a lot, and that’s why you’re getting out voted. No one wants you here. Whenever shota gets posted it causes drama in the thread, that happening at all is enough reason to ban it. Really that simple. Unpopular retarded content getting banned makes sense? Idk what to tell. Enjoy your pedo containment thread though, kek.

/cbsg/ wasn't even made with shota in mind, just drawing attractive male characters. These days lolifags and Shotafags get along with there general so nothing of value is lost here.

Exactly, and people have expressed dislike for it being posted here from the beginning. Shota posters always had to abide by stricter rules more than anyone else. Even this general had 2 discords because the original one allowed shota and the people didnt want to associate with them. By going to /lsg/ they can post all the lewds they want in peace.
