So I have a cheap chink drawing tablet that works fine for me, and I have none of the problems of the related webm, but I'd like to know just how much better and exactly what is improved on a wacom tablet that would cost 3 times as much. Damn, I was hoping for maybe the surface feeling smoother if that makes sense. Drawing on my current tablet is fine but the surface feels somewhat coarse. It doesn't remind me of paper, it just feels like drawing on a screen. Maybe if you have no sense of touch then they aren't worth it, and frankly most of the people posting on this imageboard have as much tactile sensitivity as they do artistic sensibility.

As for me, I'd never want to go without this Cintiq Pro 27 ever again. It's truly a leap above anything that anybody else has ever put out, even Wacom. "Overpriced" isn't a thing when it's literally the only product that removes the digital-analog disconnect while doing art.

Anon, that's intentional. If you want to see what a smooth screen is like, go to an apple store and fuck around with the ipad and apple pencil. It's miserable.

If you want a smoother screen but not just glass, get an xp pen display tablet. They don't use etched glass like wacom or huion do, but isntead of a basic screen protector that starts off with less tooth, and will wear down more over time to eventually just feel like wax paper.

I see pen tablets fairly often at thrift strores, but think I've only seen a display tablet one time, and it was an original cintiq. very rarely do they have the pens with them though. either the person donating lost their pen, or more likely the niggers that volunteer to work off community service hours have absolutely no idea they go together.

Pawn shops are probably a better bet for something complete, or just check facebook/craigslist/offerup/ebay/mercari.

If you have any additional questions, ask them.
Remember to ignore all chinese shills.

>I'm thinking of getting the Wacom One, should I buy it?
Fuck off retard. Ask a better question.

Recommended tablets:

>Intuos 3
Best screenless tablet. Look for one on Craigslist or Ebay.
>Intuos 4, 5 & Pro
Also good options. Will burn through your nibs.
>Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite
Budget portable display tablet. Very solid drawing experience with Wacom EMR tech, but a small 10.4" display area.
>Used iPad Pro 2nd Gen 12.9"
Best option for a display tablet.
>Galaxy Tab S7+/S8+
Good premium alternative to an iPad Pro
>One by Wacom (not Wacom One)
Solid cheap option

Avoid:

>XP-Pen, Huion, Gaomon and every other Chinese brand
Poor build quality, lackluster pens, broken tilt, struggles to register light pressure, horrible customer support and the displays are not calibrated. All Chinese brands have the same problems. Check out the webm to understand how bad they are. Also watch out, Chinese companies shill HARD on /ic/; they do a lot of samefagging and frequently hurl personal insults.

>Microsoft Surface Pro
The N-Trig digitizer means you will always get wobbly lines.

>Lenovo
Bad drawing performance because they're not designed with art in mind.

>iPads (brand new) - Bad value
>iMacs and Macbooks - Never buy this garbage under any circumstance. It's a locked ecosystem with rubbish hardware you can't upgrade.

They are worse than apple. The design, QA, and support are leagues worse and I think they're actually more inflated for what you get. Reposting my comparison from the other thread to >>6714657 with some clarifications and extra thoughts

The cintiq 27 pro is probably the best tablet I've ever used (*) having previously used a cintiq 32, intuous pro, and kamvas 24. The 120hz makes drawing feel slightly better than but I appreciate the increased brightness and oddly enough the glass texture the most. Before the light coming in from the window would wash out the cintiq 32 so much I'd just put a piece of paper over it and use it as a drawing table. The parallax is still noticeable but leagues better than the 32. The biggest bottleneck is always the software for me. If you like to zoom and move the canvas a lot for easier linework and details, some programs are just doomed. Clip Studio lags to the high heavens for me in terms of touch, with at least .2 seconds. Meanwhile Photoshop is super smooth. Desktop just doesn't do touch that well. The iPad will always feel better for responsiveness if you crave that iPad workflow. However, the pro-motion 120hz is fake and you don't actually get a stable refresh rate so it sometimes doesn't feel as smooth to draw with compared to the cintiq 27.

However, it has a pretty shit tier HDR and isn't mini-LED. The black levels and uniformity is shit. It again has a whiny always on laptop fan. The buttons on the back are nice if you like spamming the ctrl z shoulder buttons like a madman, but 8 is not enough. I had to resort to assigning the buttons on the pen and I still have to use the keyboard once in a while. The colors also don't come pre-calibrated and their calibration software is the worst piece of software I've ever used. The contrast and color clipping is godawful.

I can tolerate it but it is way too new and unrefined. If you just want a chill and smooth tablet drawing experience get the iPad. I only got the new 27 pro because my 32 broke and I didn't know about it's flaws. Don't recommend.

I used to have a Wacom. It's better than the chinks tablets yes, but this is 2023 and not 2016 or whatever when the chinks tablets were still at their primordial baby steps stage. Chinks tablets are good enough and certainly good value for their price as long as its a known brand like XP-Pen or Huion and not some random "16000 Pressure Sensitivity Hot Popular Drawing Tablet Display 4k 16 for Professional Students" on Aliexpress. You're completely fine in taking any cheap XP-Pen or Huions if you dont have the budget for Wacom or iPad.

Also I've been using the 2020 XP-Pen since 2020, lol. It's my daily driver for art stuff for commissions and other projects. I'm thinking for an upgrade, but there's barely any good models that doesn't break the bank and has outstanding new features that I'd notice. >No actual detailed description of what drawing on it is like other than variations of "good"

You're better off doing your own research and looking on other forums with level headed owners. I've already outlined the QoL issues so you can decide for yourself.
Specs not compensating for windows or software shortcomings like CSP's quirks for large brushes or the persistent windows ink issues will always lurk in the background.
I'm not saying the cintiq 27 pro is barely better than a 300 buck display tablet, but I AM saying it's an unfinished product. You can see if there are any retailers around you that has one to demo to see if you feel like it's worth the splurge. Again to clarify, brush lag is not the issue if you computer is powerful enough. It's the touch zooming and panning. There is still a bit of brush lag but for desktop tablets it doesn't get much better than the 27 in that department. You can still kind of use it like an iPad pro, the closest experience for me (including touch) was photoshop because it utilizes the hardware better and doesn't have any major unresponsiveness until you reach a ludicrous amount of layers. Keep in mind these are the minor 5% differences that are make or break the feel for some people in terms of responsiveness and that Apple probably spends exponentially more money on developing their touch technology.

Your main monitor and tablet will always have color differences. You need to calibrate your tablet with a calorimeter and software or if you prefer bushworks style by hand and sliders. X-Pen is average but it's cheap and it get's the job done.

Wacom cintiq pro 13 is the best tablet so far but it's too fucking small, the drawing surface is acceptable until you realize you have the entire program UI invading the canvas

Wacom cintiq 24 is meh, better than the X-Pen but not by a lot.

Would this be a good upgrade from an old XP-pen with an 11.6 inch screen?

All I'm looking for is a larger drawing area.

How does HUION compare in quality to XP-pen?

I see more praise for HUION , but I can't really compare them since I've only had this XP-pen tablet.

BTW: I know that there are better quality brands, but I'm not yet that into digital art to be ready to spend 1000€+.

I primarily use a cintiq for my desk setup but I'm looking for a secondary tablet that is powered by USBC. I tried out an older model huion kamvas but the real deal breaker for me is initial activation force and pen button behavior. I like to do "tap to click" when using my pen buttons but this feature is often glossed over in many reviews. Also I'd like to have the option to bind a driver level erase to one of the pen buttons like on wacoms too. Does anyone have a chinese tablet that meets some of these nitpicks?

screenless are 200 to 1000€ cheaper, dont get scratches as easily, protect your spine and wrist by superior ergonomics and allow you to draw on as big monitor as your budget or physical size of room allows. oh and they also dont lock you into specific app / operating system. you can hook them up into virtually anything with usb port and it will just work. pc, apple, android phone, any system really.

tablets with screen allow you to draw outside of your art basement.

>>6725765
the "difference" is the bigger number the better. bigger number means more sensitive. hard example: people who draw with mouse have 2 levels of sensitivity: the click is either ON or OFF. if they had 3 levels then they could naturally produce 2 types of line.

pc is more versatile, apple is more streamlined. cant really advise with so little info.

also getting new pc might not even directly improve performance of your drawing app: some of them are very poorly designed so they dont even utilize GPU acceleration or multi core CPUs. Bigger RAM is mostly tied to being able to draw on bigger canvas.

unless xp pen added etched glass to their displays, they're still not worth buying over huion's offerings from even like 2-3 years ago. Deco should be fine if you don't want a display tablet.

Not sure when the gen 2 shit came out, but I tried an artist 24 pro last year. Overall it was just okay. screen protector (that will have to be replaced eventually) feels like a worn down elecom on an ipad, my pen absolutely would not calibrate (heard you just need to tighten some screw, but I returned it before trying that so it was about 1mm off center the entire time), and the contrast was too high and unfixable after ~2 hours of fucking with display settings.
If I had to draw with one, assuming the pen could be calibrated, I could live with it. But since huions are about the same price and offer better color and etched glass, I see absolutely no reason to buy one.

well i'm finally trying a display tablet again. my last was a kamvas 16 and i ordered a kamvas 22 plus today. my problem may have been that 16 inches was too small and i've heard the screen on the 22 plus is one of the best looking of any display tablet on the market. i got an intuos pro large recently but i decided to return it right after ordering the kamvas 22. i liked it but it was really expensive and i can draw the same with my medium that i already had. i actually found that by using the whole active area and drawing lines physically longer, the more often they got wavy and fucked up.

the kamvas 16 i had had pen tech 2 and this new one will have pen tech 3 so i'll see how that feels compared to wacom. the pen tech 2 i used was serviceable but it didn't feel great. it sucks that tilt is broken on huion but it's never been important to how i draw or paint so whatever, i'm not missing out on anything i need.

Ok bros, give it to me straight. Does tablet size matter? I’ve been using the smallest sized wacom intuos for years now and I’ve always been curious if a bigger tablet would make things more comfortable. Also might want an upgrade sometime when my tablet finally dies, so I’m wondering if I should just stick to the small size or size up?

>> No.6730673

>>6730581
probably not what you want to hear but the answer is that it depends. if you're more comfortable drawing with your arm then a bigger tablet is probably better. if you're ok with drawing with your hand and wrist then a smaller one is fine.

i don't know how the size compares to other tablets but at least within the intuos pro line, i have heard many times that the medium is the best fit for most people unless you have a specific reason why you need a smaller or bigger tablet. i've heard that a small tablet is efficient for painters for some reason, i don't remember exactly what, something about being able to lay down a lot of brush strokes without needing to put it in lot of movement. for figure drawing and stuff where you are drawing with your arm obviously bigger is better for that because you can make the same kind of movements you'd make on a big sketch pad. i personally draw with my hand and wrist and i have a medium and i think it's great.

if you want to try a bigger size you can just get one from amazon and try it within the return window and if you don't like it even if it works just tell them the drivers are broken and return it.

display tablets are a different matter. if you want something portable you can bring with your phone or laptop 13 to 16 inches is a good size. it works and the smaller they are the more affordable they are but some people like myself find something that small to be too small and claustrophobic. when i had a 16 inch display tablet my face would be glued to it trying to get it as big in my field of view as possible like i was trying to get the same experience as having a bigger one. that didn't work and i just coped with it for a year or so until i realized it wasn't working and i switched to a pen tablet. if it will live on your desk, 22 or 24 inches is probably as big as most people need.

I haven't used Amazon in some time. What's up with these vouchers? Is there some catch? Or are they just your typical discount?

actually I'm not sure looking more into it. Both have pros and cons. The pro 20 has a glass screen and side buttons while the 22 has a screen protector, but the 22 has their newest pen and is a little bigger.

Unless it's substantially more, the 22 plus has some noticeable upgrades that are well worth it. Better color gamut, better contrast ratio, better drawing surface, newest pen.

The cheaper one has the newer stylus and makes it seem more appealing, but it's so much cheaper that I assume it's a step down in some way.
So what makes the other one "Pro"?

Usable screen size is 10x6 vs 11x6, but seems worth losing 1" to pay less than half and have a better stylus.

afaik the latest screenless from wacom are intuos pro. i have a medium and i recently tried a large. they're really good if you can afford it, although i wouldn't get a large unless you know that you need one or if you have the money to float, and you buy it from somewhere where it's very easy to return if you don't like it and you know you can make up your mind within the return window. medium is the best fit for most people. if they need a reason for the return like it has to be defective by the way just tell them the drivers are busted, how are they gonna prove that wrong?

also a tip about the bluetooth, if you ever use that make sure there is a clear line of sight between the bluetooth receiver and the tablet. i was having issues with that until i realized it was because i had a monitor between the dongle and the tablet. i put it on a usb extension cord and taped that to the side of my desk so there is a clear line of sight and now it feels as responsive as a wired connection.

Yep. It works for CSP, Medibang, Infinite Painter. I haven't used it very extensively for drawing yet since my main work tablet is on my desktop. The eraser works out of the box for Samsung Notes as well. Just the ergonomics and no accidental side button press alone is very worth the price so the eraser is just a bonus I feel.

Imo the Norris is great for linework and sketches since its nibs are more grippy. The Wacom One pen has more slippery nibs, so it's better (imo) for more repeated strokes. Or you could just use the regular S pen with the slippery nibs instead for coloring.

Whats the diference between a kamvas 16 2021 and a kamvas 16 GS1561? I was gonna get a 2021 but now I'm eyeing the other since I found a store selling it rather cheaper than the 2021

hover literally doesn't matter at all in the slightest.
Drawing experience, the kamvas absolutely shits on ipad. The only positive ipads offer over dedicated drawing tablets is portability.

For most people that have both, ipads end up only being used for sketching away from their computer.

Are the Wacom Mobile Studios any good or worth the price? Specifically the 13 inch. I remember buying picrel (Cintiq Companion) eons ago on a loan but I sold it off in the end. I found myself an ipad 2019 but it's too cramped for my liking and the gen 1 pencil is kind of terrible even after drawing with it for years. Not familiar with any other portable/standalone alternatives besides the Galaxy Tabs.

The Mobilestudios were released 8 years ago and only received a minor spec bump since. Don’t buy them.

If Wacom ever put out a mobile device that utilized the Pro Pen 3 and their other fancy new junk I’d jump on it but they seem to hate releasing new gear.

I refuse to believe this. I feel ancient now thinking it was new.
Yeah i'm sort of hoping they'd try to make a mobile device again because I would like full windows on it. If I could have my usual comforts of SAI2 and CSP at the same time portably it would be the dream.

Hello /ic/ I have a very autistic problem.
I have Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ and I really like drawing on it aside from naming layers in CSP because retarded keyboard assist doesn't work half the time and having to worry about battery life and that I cannot just keep it plugged into the outlet 24/7.

I also have a Cintiq 16 which is great but my lines are thinner there and I cannot zoom, cancel last action and move around with my fingers.

How can I make my Cintiq behave more like Galaxy Tab in terms of pressure and how can I cope with navigation and actions, not to rely on a keyboard on the side? Also is Tablet drawing viable at all? Most the artists I see are using PC Tablets.

these are the models available on my country within my budget, which one do you recommend the most?

XP-Pen Artist 12 black
Huion Kamvas Pro 12 or Pro 13
Huion 2021 Kamvas 16 (this one stretches my budget the most)
Wacom One DTC133W0A black (most expensive one)

I have an small screenless Wacom One, is it worth considering upgrading to a Intuos Pro?

What advantage can I get from a bigger size? Mine is super small but there's S, M and L.

>What advantage can I get from a bigger size
Smoother longer strokes as you'd be using your elbow or shoulder.
The possibility of being more gestural when drawing for the same reason.
Other than that, if you're confortable with your current tablet, theres no point in upgrading other than the pro pen 2. (and i dont think the difference is THAT noticeable)

If you just want a good quality tablet, sure go for it. The Intuos Pro is absolutely fantastic. The L is a bit too much for my taste tho.

>> No.6742297

>>6742291
Yeah I wouldn't go for L as I want to have it on my desk or my shoulder and move it. I wouldn't get the S as it's prob the same size as this one I lready have and honestly the pen prrssure I have is more than enough. My tablet is the cheapest screenless Wacom makes

>> No.6742319

Question for WACOM PRO PEN 3 USERS: I’ve been using this pen on a cintiq, and the nib will occasionally “catch” inside the pen while drawing, causing this weird scratchy feeling while I’m drawing. It’s incredibly distracting, and I have to rotate the pen to continue to use it comfortable. Happens pretty regularly as I draw.

My question: is this a typical pro pen 3, or does mine have a defect? I’ll order another if it’s a defect, but I need an outside opinion from another user to verify.

Thank you!

16" is the perfect size honestly. 13" is passable.
12" and under are too small.
Unless it's an iPad or Android tablet where 12" is still good because mobile drawing apps are better designed for smaller screens. Desktop drawing apps tend to have all the toolbars visible at all times and that eats up screen space.
