Pay attention to the GIFs in the first two or three posts. Don't understand some of the terms? Google them. It's not that hard.
Some of the links may have layers - like ogres or onions. You might have to "peel" them more than once to get to the good part.

Ah, and (I'm >>6679645), for sculpting, I'd say have a look at Proko 3D. I bought Faraut's book (the one you're referring too);I haven't had the time to go through in details, but the guy seems to care (for instance, all pictures are well-lit, forms are readable, etc.)

By comparison, Zarins's feels much more chaotic. It's not bad, actually it's useful in many way, but the book is not as well-structured and refined.

Start by making basic stuff, like balls, cubes, small boxes (5 sides). It already presents a few challenges if you try to achieve a smooth, regular output.

I've tried sculpting a little earlier, thinking it would help with drawing. I've done it just enough to realize that it's a bit more hairy than I thought (usual), and decided to focus on drawing/painting instead for now.

Ive never read any books on drawing. I’ve never watched any YouTube videos either. Sometimes I start a video because someone recommends it and 30s in I’m so frustrated by watching and not drawing, I just turn it off and draw. I have bought some art books for inspiration, but any reference book I bought I’ve never opened. I have some weird mental barrier on studying.

So now I just never click on any YouTube links because they make me want to draw so bad it hurts. And I stopped buying books about how to draw xyz because they are a waste of money.

Ok I keep on remembering additional books, but say, between 5 and 10, studied to various depth. I've also skimmed a bunch of others, let alone books I consider as references, and that I'm unlikely to ever go through cover to cover (e.g. Goldfinger's human anatomy)

But I've thrown away a huge pile of training drawings/paintings maybe 2 years ago, and I've collected quite some new material since.

You don't need to read a lot, but you need to practice a lot. Reading is most useful when you've actually encountered the issues presented by the authors. Otherwise, you just don't assimilate the material as efficiently.

There's an AI translated pdf floating around the archives I think but honestly you can follow along with just the images. Specifically for the drawing portions. The color and light book might need some OCR and machine translation. Also he has a Coloso course that's officially subbed and its been ripped if you look around for it.
I'm recommending him because his method is really easy to grasp. You just need the mileage to get as good as him since he draws a fuck ton.

Kind Drawing is for a general overview on what to consider when drawing a character. It was his first book iirc so he covered stuff more broadly. There's some anatomy dives and things like angles and telling a story.
Dynamic Drawing is specifically just about drawing figures and is a lot more in-depth about each section of the body. I'd say study Dynamic Drawing and Kind Color and Light from these sets of books and you'll be golden.

>has Naoki made any books for beginners?
Not from him, no.
>The book in the first post looks great but might be beyond my ability right now
Yeah, his 3 month improvement method is definitely not for beginners but for intermediates who already have a decent amount of drawing skill behind them and have a concrete goal in mind.
I suggest making your own schedule of anatomy and perspective books to study from or follow along a video course, there's a thread for those too. Pic related is a good template, just substitute certain books for ones that teach a similar topic but are more interesting to you. Personally i'd get rid of the Scott Robertson books unless you really have the autism to deal with it. Replace 2 with anatomical books like Stonehouse Anatomy or Rinotuna's Dynamic Drawing. And 9 with something like Bridgman or Morpho, depending on your cup of tea. Once you get past 10 you can replace 11 with the Naoki Saito method since you're able to break down and study other artist's work.
It's imperative that you apply these studies with personal projects in between by the way, if you mindlessly study you won't retain any information or know how to apply it. You're meant to be developing your own style and shorthand in between these exercises. Also don't spend a lifetime on one book, glean enough that you feel like you've started understanding them, move forward and don't be afraid to produce finished work in every step of the process, that way you know what you need to go back to work on and you have something you can compare to.

I'm not saying you have to stick to the books in the image. But the order of fundamentals is roughly similar to what other pros suggest (Finch's guide for example). You start with learning perspective and turning shapes and forms in perspective with some rendering, then you start with figure studies, followed by learning anatomy, and then color and light. I didn't follow this guide personally, but it's pretty intuitive and is a guided way of doing it instead of wasting a decade aimlessly. Anon asked for a guided study, this isn't unlike what you'd see in a course at school and such.
Again you can substitute any of the books to any equivalent that clicks with you and motivates you to draw, of course if you just stick to the books in the picture and none of them stimulate you then it is pointless yeah.

Not a request. Does anyone has this? (ISBN 9780500023457)
I'm curious about it since reviews (let alone footage) seem to be very scarce and one or two say that the text is historical mumbo jumbo instead of analysis. Japanese students are taught fundamentals in art school. Japanese character designers then use those fundamentals to refine the years of consuming media and copying artbooks of games, anime and manga they like into their own designs and creations influenced by what they grew up liking.
Outside of formal education there /are/ instructional books made by other artists about character design and they're all pretty specific but they boil down to the same principle and are influenced by older media and trends. In short there's no "school for character design" like there would be art schools in the west, they all learned from what they liked and each other through mentoring or being assistants. Unless you can read japanese or the artbooks you like are translated into english that also have text blurbs about the thought process, you're out of luck. Look for interviews of your favorite character designers, behind-the-scenes reports or makings-of videos. Sadpanda probably has a few character design theory books that aren't exactly formal education but written by a veteran. There's anime character design courses taught online nowadays too. But that doesn't change that the best teacher is breaking down those character designs yourself through fundamentals and your own creativity/design sense. Honestly dude just start making characters even if you're /beg/ and refine the design as you get better over time.

Unfortunately my high end ones are photography and oil-painting focused, which I don't think really appeals to anyone here, but I can guide you in the right direction at least. What are you looking for? You'd be surprised what people will scan.

Weird question, but has anyone here put their artbooks in the freezer? I occasionally see little bugs crawling in my books and the advice I found was to freeze them, but I'm not sure if that applies to artbooks as well.
