I think you know what you are doing. This "loli" stuff is not my thing, but the anatomy looks correct. If I redraw this, I would change the "age" of the figure, and modify the proportions a lot, and I don't think that's what you want.

I think you are like 80-85% there, but things aren't quite solid. Keep doing your figure drawing, building your characters from cylinders and blocks, and generally feeling the form. I like Vilppu a lot, if you want someone to read.

>>6708857
We can see your struggles here, very common, how to place everything in a way to show the "sexy bits". Like the fox's torso, without being hidden by his head. Or how you moved his right shoulder WAY to the side, so it can be seen. These are usual problems, in particular with furr subjects. Those damn big tails, ears, and fluffy cheeks, it's hard to go around them and show what you want to show. But you have to search for the solution, there must be a way, always.
There, I made the fox's head bigger sacrificing his right shoulder, it is necessary. But if your construction is correct the viewer will know the shoulder is there. The image as a whole will work if your construction is solid underneath all that furr lol.
Also Jolteon (that's Jolteon right?) back/torso looks flat on the floor, but that's a minimal issue. I like how you do hands, and there's elegance in your figures. But, yeah, these problematic poses are a real challenge, it forces you to search for new shapes and distort them in the right angle to get what you want.
Keep at it anon!

That's ok friend, I was watching that thread too. I see I need to work on torsos still. Sometimes I forget my own rough underneath and lose the plot about parts hidden behind things. Ok, the other one. It took me a minute to see she was carrying a bag. As always these are very VERY subtle issues. Sometimes are hard to explain. So there's my version of her arms, any other artist could place them in a tiny different way.
I could put much more emphasis on the foreshortening on her legs and torso, that's up to you I guess. There's always a middle point between the extremes.
Hope it helps.

6709076

I'll start with this one. The first glaring issue is the forearm, like it should "bend" in the other way. The curve or "belly" of the muscles should be displaced towards the outside (sorry I did the arm too thick, I'm just trying to make the shape clear).
Then there's a very interesting detail, you did the lines of the collar bones. If those lines weren't there, I would say, it looks perfect. BUT the placement of the collar bones instantly signals the whole structure around it and as you can see, it's all out of wack EVEN when those shapes or lines are not even there! That's so cool, you know. With time, it will happen to you as well, you will see.
I hope it helps. I'll see the other one now.

You have a very distinctive style, you shouldn't change that. The faces are beautiful. There's something weird about the body proportions, like their bodies are too elongated, but I see what you're doing. I think you have to tweak juuussst a little bit of that. I'm not saying to change your style, please don't, you just have to tune the proportions to make it work.

The most important thing, the gesture, he's like grabbing her neck with out emotion. It is the hand position. The hand needs to have a "caressing" gesture. And also HER hand is important, so she's not hanging by her neck, in a weird way. Her breasts also looks strange, like it needs a more elegant reading of the lines.
So as you can see, I'm just advising little tiny details, your style is beautiful, tune up the proportions, to make the composition solid, and tune up the gesture, to make it 100% alluring to the viewer, without any weird second readings.
Nice and beautiful work anon!

Maybe this could work? What do you think?. Main issue is the foreshortening of the guy's left hand, she needs to grab him from a shorter distance. But more importantly she needs to have her arms in a supinated position so her torso can be extended in a arched pose and everything can work better, her head/face/neck, etc.
Her right arm need more work (a much better foreshortening), I wasn't sure how to solve your pic while doing it, but the idea is there, I think.

Hey dude, I'm pretty sure I drew for you last thread. Like I said before, when you're doing line drawing, knowing what lines to put down, and what not to put down, is an art in itself. Good line technique comes from copying other artists, because some artists will choose to indicate the eyes in one way, the nose in another way, etc. It's all different. I want you to find 1000 images of good head drawings from artists you admire, and copy all 1000, in the next year. Do good actual copies of them, very accurately. Copy the shadows too. Head drawing is mostly learned this way. If you just outline everything like a coloring book, your drawing is going to not look good

Also, learn the skull, learn the construction of the head, yadda yadda, I'm sure you know that

Cylinders and cubes are great tools anon, I often fall in the trap of the "muscle flat shape", muscles shapes are easy, the hard part sometimes is to add volume to a composition. If you can turn your cylinders and cubes into very simplified muscles shapes you will be in the perfect spot.

Do you mean the hand gesture? To me it depends of that detail, if the hand looks good and expressive, then the arm takes a second place visually. It's fun to search for a good hand/arm gesture. Keep looking, have fun.

Ok, so if she's on a cloth resting her body only on her arm, that arm (and hand) should be slightly placed near her body to hold it up.

I don't know why the head in all of your pics looks too small, maybe making the head a little bit bigger helps. But I'm more worried about the legs, they look weird. Thank You all for the tips! Some of my poses are a lil cheesy because I try include the ass and a clear facial expression on the same figure.
>>6720596
Yeah, it was kinda tricky with foreshortening on the legs and torso length in this one, will have to see how it could be fixed. I’m gonna study more Hogarth because he did some interesting things with legs and overlaps. I was trying to vary the line weight inside the form which seems very fun. I was also trying to do what Vilppu calls model shading - sharp closed edge on the outside, tapered messy edge on the inside.
>>6720602
Oooh I like the stylization, it’s more streamlined than my “see what sticks” approach. Tbh I do have some trouble with heads and necks, especially with extreme angles like this. I’m not sure which direction the feet should be pointing in this pose, but them being outwards does seem more dynamic than my choice.

this is just a matter of learning to draw form and building a figure from a basic cylinder mannequin, into a full muscle figure. Do lots of figure drawing, every day, and study the Vilppu drawing manual so much the pages start falling out. (yes, falling out of the pdf) Also, look up Hogarth for good clear muscle diagrams, then make the shapes of the muscles more aesthetic by copying Bridgman

I never would have found your post asking for help in that other thread. So, that's the reason this thread exist. There are two or three redliners here, we check this thread, when it bumps, then, maybe, someone is asking for help, easy.
We are high-beg/intermediate, so we just do a quick redline good enough to help, if it helps it helps. That's it. No over-kill critique, no bashing, no crabbing, we do it because we love drawing. What I want to say, is that I have no idea how to help you with that inner thought you have about your work, LOL.
All I can say is what I like about your drawing, and, what it makes it hard for me to read from it. Like i.e: the clothes are not clear, I don't understand what she's wearing, I know she's holding a pant and a shirt. I do understand she's choosing clothes to get dress. What I like, I like her design, face and head, body proportions are appealing.

I think you need to keep drawing to build a visual library big enough to tackle any composition. You're almost there. The problem lot of artists have at the beginning is that they don't like what they draw, it looks ugly, so they don't feel motivated to draw a lot of that. But your work looks nice, at the core you have this, just keep drawing. Don't worry about rendering, just draw till drawing becomes second nature.

I don't know what else I can do aside from that redline. Most of the time the answers to our artistic questions are in the doing itself, some things can't be explained. Just keep grinding and you will find all the pieces of the puzzle. We can always give you a broad guideline with these "redlines" to keep you motivated, no problem.

Wow, this is so much better than the help I've gotten in that another thread. However I do still appreciate that they've tried to help and pointed out a few important and helpful things for me.
I do love this redline and it shows me a lot of things.

>the clothes are not clear, I don't understand what she's wearing
I kind of had an idea for them but didn't really know how to draw it, especially those things that I have no idea what their name is on upper arms. And to be honest I'm still kind of lost on how to make clothes obvious to the viewer.(I assume it will come to me over time too just as rendering?)

About the rest, it's nice to hear I'm on the right path and should just keep drawing with these mentioned things in mind, but it was also really nice to see my current mistakes (for this image) in a form of a nice redline.

It's too early to call for "glaring mistakes". You could do something great going from there. I'm not sure what's the idea behind the gesture.
At first glance the way his torso twist could be labeled as "problematic". But it could work if he is doing one of those stretching exercises, you know, context is everything.

Heh, I knew it, that gesture suggested an action pose. Well I did a quick pose bending the torso in a more dynamic manner. Of course there will always be anatomical limitations, like if his chest is arching up a lot then his head can't be placed down like in the photo, etc.
But, you can explore those limitations, doing simple scribbles with basic forms to seek for appealing shapes. You can see that at first that I set one rule, to use a single line in the middle to bend the torso around. But at the bottom I tried to break that middle line between the chest and the abs, and I get a figure shape which reminded me of that pose the pitcher do in baseball when throwing. That's the "eureka" moment you know. Then you say, that's right, that's what I'm looking for. Then you go and search more references on that pose. But you can only get there through searching, that search is done by drawing. We are not machines making calculations and simulations in our heads without moving a muscle. Don't be afraid to do lots of scribbles just searching for nice shapes, there are no rules on how to do art, just have fun drawing and you will find those eureka moments all the time.

I'm sure you heard (or read) many times the phrase "simplify, simplify simplify". At some point you just do that. I think the clothing piece you did looks good already. If you want a little deeper opinion, it is important to know what kind of clothes are you trying to do. Is it just a simple t-shirt? Is it a nightgown? Different kind of clothes have different shapes. I mean T-shirts are not just squared pieces of fabric, shirts have shapes incorporated.
And about folds and wrinkles, I did some simple examples there, clothes are more effective when they look simple. As simple as possible, with elegant straight lines and folds. In a perfect world we would all use ironed clothes, I know it's not like that, lol, but, if we are making art, we might as well give our characters ironed clothes.

You can say that studio ghibli does wobbly fluffy clothes all the time, BUT, they keep it ultra simple. If we are doing complex clothing designs, then better use straight lines. In 90's anime you can find a lot of examples of that. Anyway, clothing design is such a huge subject matter that it deserves it's own dedicated professional art course.

Thank you so much for your kind words anon. don't worry just have fun. To me, your work reminds me those capcom rough sketches from the 90s, solid and dynamic at the same time. I like the style. So every time I see them, I just love it.
People like rough sketches too, don't feel like you have to go too much out of your way to meet someone else expectation.

Rendering can be really discouraging and deceitful, there are so many ways to do it, and it feels like you are never doing it right or good enough.
Here you have some methods

https://youtu.be/VXL4QyDXht4

https://youtu.be/hTh9NpGPeYw

I would choose a simple method though, with flat colors and very few layers, it will help you to be more motivated to finish pics and do it faster. It also helps if you want to try some animations. I did a quick one here >>>/f/3497367

GREAT STUFF ANON! First obvious issue is the arm from the girl on the left. It should be just a little bit longer (maybe I did it a bit too long, I got distracted for a second lol). Some people say the elbow should be at the navel's height, and of course the wrist at the crotch height point.

Aside from the arm, all of the rest is a matter of personal style, maybe their torsos are a bit to slim, I don't know, it is a very subtle detail territory. This looks great anon. Her head/faces are god-tier level.

For what I know about Luffy's design, this is alright. I'm looking at gear 5's faces, maybe there you can add some detail to improve his face. I'm thinking redoing his hair with at least one wavy curl on the forehead. I think the hair is the key to make it look cool.

Hi, sorry anon, I saw your post but I was hoping someone else to do something, I'm doing some fun stuff for /f/ xD
Personally I'm fine with the use of AI for searching poses, new references, or ideas. The problem is AI doesn't understand human anatomy, it just morph images in any random patterns with no reason or logic behind.
For example the girl squatting, I know the pose, that classic pose with the spread calves and feet to the sides, but the AI did something in the middle, that particular pose requires the girl to have her feet on the ground standing on her toes.
I hope this helps. AI is ok, take advantage of it if you find an useful function for it, don't worry. But if you learn anatomy and drawing, and you can do it fast enough, you will beat AI at this early construction level, and then you can make a much better use of it.

Sorry for my bad English, but the original image is from AI, I retouched it manually, feet and breasts, hair and other details that were wrong, but it still looks weird, I like to correct the AI because my imagination is mediocre, I admit I have a bad imagination, but I know how to draw, the problem is that when I pose something my mind goes blank.

That's ok, is natural, you will gradually filling those blank spaces with shapes you learn. And you learn those shapes by drawing them. At some point you will draw whatever you want, and it will seem like a magic trick, but it's just muscle memory working naturally.

People who study mathematics comes up with calculations out of their asses and everyone jaw drops, but that's just memory and education. This is the same, you will learn shapes. Shapes for everything, jumping, running, sitting, dancing, old people, fat people, any gender, any age, any clothing. At the end those are just shapes. Now "blank spaces" in you head, like in a video game. Learn those shapes, draw them, and fill the blank spaces. Your brain will take care of the rest, Don't worry.

Yeah I totally understand what you mean. I had the same issue, I didn't wanted to even touch a digital tablet or a painting software at the beginning. But eventually I realized of all the advantages of it.
I prefer a screenless tablet, perhaps for that same reason, I hate dealing with complex shit. The more simple the process, the better.

hello, im stealing this one from op. I think you're on the right track with those shapes, just watch the widths and proportions of the forms. Your pelvis box is squashed front to back.

Aside from that, I highly recommend the Vilppu drawing manual if you haven't looked at it. IT's the best way to develop a command over plastic form, imo. It's not a matter of being able to draw bean shapes, boxes, etc. but to draw them easily and without much conscious thought. Learn to put them down directly, without an under sketch.

I used to have this problem, just do some head studies and get familiar with contours of the face, it will help with your le animu drawings as well
learn where the contours are from cheeks to nose to mouth to eyes etc. Beginners that only draw stylized miss out on the details of face anatomy because usually they dont need it for a decent looking product

ironically the AI got the scaling of the perspective more correct on the legs. In yours you made the upper thigh too long, and theres no real sense of the lower body converging properly to the vanishing point. You also failed to draw the feet in the frame and made the face not as appealing, the face is too wide around the cheek and jaw area. Arms and neck area is fucked too. I think you need more experience with top down views...

Hey anon sorry I'm not helping here a lot. I did a quick pose sketch. To me you always hold up a person like that with your arm around the torso, and holding the legs under the knee joint. I'm sure there are lots of good reference out there for that pose.

The AI does a pretty rendering for sure, but the pose and proper anatomy are weirdly random most of the times. I would search for poses using real references, and then give them a pass on AI to get a pretty look and then go from there, either fix it or do your own thing. But don't trust on AI for the starting pose.
Good luck man, keep at it.
