I was hesitant to redline this, because I'm not very confident with hands myself. The advice that has improved my hands the most was to copy hands from other artists. Copying lines is a lot easier and clearer than copying photos of hands, or drawing them from life.

For specific notes, the forearms are too short. I drew a torso so you could see it clearer. I would also indicate the bones more on the hands, to give it some structure. Finally, I'd think of the fingers as cubes, then you would "smooth" the edges.

As for this one, I’m really a big fan of this. It’s a nice, clean drawing. The pose is a bit stiff, so my sketch is just a suggestion on how to give it more movement. You could do any number of poses, depending on the story you want to convey. The key to stronger poses is to either give it a tilt, or a twist, or both. (Tilt, as in the shoulders and hips are at opposing angles)

That's great. She looks NICE. But remember that you had a goal in mind from the beginning. I think, you were aiming for a young athletic and nimble physique.
I emphasized muscles as clear guidelines before, but now you have to bend those guidelines and fit them to your own needs. You can tweak and trim muscle and shapes as you need, like clay. >Proportions< are the key, subtle muscle details helps to signal proportions. Emphasizing muscles can change everything, age, body type, athletic condition, you have to dial up or down those details as you need. Build you own shapes, and search for fluidity. I did a little trim of muscle on her arms, but she looks good overall. Now is up to you who you want her to be in terms of physique.

Clothes, clothes are as important as much as the figure structure itself. Clothes are part of the whole image language. I would recommend to check Leyendecker, as a guide to simplify design, and make it elegant.

Keep at it anon.

my change is very subtle, but I drooped the shoulders for a more natural look. I also think the arms could be bigger: remember that the elbows line up with your belly button. For the folds, use more straight lines at first. It'll make the dynamics of the wrinkles more understandable. Lastly, I think the suit would look better if the neckline narrowed a bit as it went down, though that's just a preference

Thank you anon. No problem. These boards are to be used, for art. Use it. Even if it is for boosting your own artistic mood. If the RedLine General pop ups I always take a look. It's really interesting to see people's work. Always.
Yes Leyendecker was an advertising artist for men fashion. So his work is invaluable as a learning resource. You can look for other artists using the same searching criteria. Fashion, design, illustration, art. I see so much emphasis on figure learning and anatomy, but so little in clothing and fashion, when 100% of the time we will be making people wearing clothes lol. And we should know about clothes, all kind of clothes. Dress, nighties, socks, shoes, bags, hoodies, jackets, suits, job clothes, time period clothes. It's almost a more important matter than anatomy.
There in picrelated I made you a quickie just to do some drapes lol. Doing clothes is awesome, lots of fun, better than doing figure studies.
Well, thanks again anon, keep at it, and good luck

I would lie to you anon if I tell you. I'll admit that I have tons of books, (maybe all of them) downloaded and I've never read them at the end. I draw for fun, I'm an autistic squizo OCD weirdo, I can be drawing shit with out eating or sleeping and suddenly crash any other day. So to me it was grinding and brute force, it wasn't brains for me.
So if I recommend any "teaching books" I would be a total hypocrite.
The only thing that I could recommend is to have inspiring things at hand, like the Kim Jung Gi books, to me those worth so much more than any tutorial art book out there. Nothing beats inspiration. The urge to grab a pencil and draw stuff, that's the key, and embrace that motivation every day is hard. There's no book teaching how to be inspired all the time, maybe that would be a good book to have.

remember to have fun with your construction! I like Vilppu the best for construction, because of how free and fun you can be with his theories. He starts you off with only spherical form construction, to keep you from being so tight and precise! Your forms don't have to be anatomical to look good. Give the drawing manual and good study, and have fun!

The issue that I'm trying to point out here, though, is your use of overlaps. Hampton talks about using the "T" symbol in order to create form, and I think that's really important to remember to do, in a complicated area like this. It's just good drawing hygiene in general

I don't know exactly what you need, but this woke me up, I was dead, lol, I tried to draw a random pose, and place the muscles colored shapes like in your reference, and it all match up, it was cool. No wonder your anatomy is all kinds of wonky. You didn't get all of it right either. Coracobrachialis should dive between tricep and bicep. Posterior part of the deltoid should be nowhere near the bicep, it stays behind the tricep. Latissimus slings around teres major and they should all be more upright as they insert into the humerus.

Personally I find studying anatomy pretty fun and rewarding. I recommend you give it a go.

Thanks for the input man. I guess, I'm not being totally honest, but you're a pal, so we can share, I don't do these linearts without sketching (sometimes I do), but mostly It looks like the black sketch brush scribble you see in picrel. I could get a super detailed final lineart design out of that, but, I aim to do these in seconds time if possible, and these ones I did. These ultra stylized linearts are like a translation tool, the quickest translation possible. And it works for me. It would be unbearable do designs and poses with all the ultra anatomical details in place in the quantities I do. It can't be done.
So I'll take the bullet, lol, right in my forehead, shoot. But this wonky anatomy is my treasure, it allows me to do everything as quick as humanly possible and I love it.
Also, I do know the main muscles groups and names, you can not know them when you do this stuff, but I hate when guys start naming all the muscles, like Jeffrey Watts does, I roll my eyes, LOL! but that's just me, I'm weird like that. Please don't mind me.

Your anatomy drawings are little pieces of art. You can put those in a frame. And it should be appreciated, that level of compromise with an anonymous board. I hope we have even more different styles to add and to chose from. Cheers and keep them coming.

>> No.6681502

>>6681482
I agree, you absolutely should simplify and omit anatomical detail. However, knowing anatomy will always speed up your work, not slow it down. Especially the insertions/origins of muscles, that shit's like a cheat code.

More importantly when you know anatomy it allows you to focus on gesture and proportions (which I would consider to be far more important). Like not spacing the ribcage and pelvis too far apart (one of the most common mistakes).

If you want to add more definition to the torso, differentiate between the abs and the external obliques (and their fat pads).

Hope this helps, keep drawing.

Ok, well, that's a totally different matter. The final colored picture is much better in all elements. BUT, it now competes with a whole universe of content in the same tone. At first glance it looks AI. Wich is not a bad thing, props to you. But your advantage is that you can screen record the whole creation process from the sketch to the final result. AI can't do that. So there you have the solution. Also progress clip /video media it's a much better content for viral spread right now, on tik tok, shorts and reels.
Don't worry, it's not about the picture, it's the whole marketing environment side of the thing. Develop a way to capture your process and you can get on top of the issue.

I really think that I shouldn't make a redline of your work. You have something good here that shouldn't be disrupted. I just noticed how gracefully you placed the feet one on top of each other. This is a delightful work.

If you want a detailed anatomical chart, there is a guy here who does that, awesomely good, and with precision, that must be really hard work though.

I did a redraw, but I feel that I shouldn't. As you can see, it adds nothing to yours, yours is above. Keep at it, develop that style. the hair is awesome. The only thing that I could point out is the clothe lines, but I shouldn't, it looks good as a whole anyways, Just keep at it.

Nice, but I forgot to tell you something. The first thing I did with your pic was to open the canvas all around, her legs need room, for you to see the proportions as a whole.
Your eyes needs to see the figure as much and as better as possible. This is digital, so you can use all the canvas space you want. As matter of fact, you have to, when you do the basic design you need to have a good reading on the proportions as a priority. You can resize the background excess later.
Keep at it. Do iterations to compare, don't linger too much around one work. Keep grinding. You can go back later to do adjustments. Push forward.

But if you tell me to actually take the time to do the final lineart, (with a nice brush, tilt angle and pressure sensitivity), color, shades, gradients, backgrounds, cleaning, I probably will break down and cry, and jump out of the window lol! Probably I'll drop this and go back to some other routine anyway.

Hi, you're the martial art guy, cool. I did a redraw, at this point, I feel kinda weird, giving advice. But here we go, as you can see I expanded the hell out of the drawing space, that's what I advised to other anon earlier. With you the problem is that you're doing this traditional, you can't make the paper grow just by magic. (you're doing this on paper right?) So you're forced to do a well thought construction of the figure, having into account angle, perspective, foreshortening, composition, "gesture".
The figure must look great, and powerful from the very basic construction. Use the box system to explore forced perspective. (I did a crude doodle about that in the redraw)
You only can get this mindset with embedded reference in your head, you need a core idea of what is a powerful, stylized composition. That's why Frazzetta and Leyendecker are so referenced, they mastered these two concepts. Today you have much more reference to use and take advantage of, like the whole Capcom art-style from the 90s is a golden treasure.
I'm trying to summarize something too big in one simple comment. Just keep grinding, keep copying good reference, you can trace as a exercise man, just grind, use everything at hand, at some point you will go on your own, no reference.
Keep at it.

Sorry man, I forgot to update the pic with the "box exercise". Anyway, there it is, a little example to visualize a figure in a "cool perspective". Try it, just draw box shaped figures in cool poses and angle perspectives to familiarize with the use of perspective. That's cool for fighting action poses. The box shape will guide you.

This one was really hard. Because I'm noticing that you already did a construction learning, you know shapes, and anatomical and muscle basic details, Her face already looks awesome. You're looking for something else here. Call it "appeal" or whatever.

So pushing you back to "get your fundamentals right", that's not what you're asking. You want this to look cool, or hot, or whatever. Again I would say to open the canvas around, sketching her in lots of iterations till you feel the proportions and the "appeal" is right.
I could say her head is too small in proportion to the body, other could say, NO her head is ok, it is at 1/8 proportion to her height, BUT you're looking to appeal, perspective tweaks proportions in real life anyway. You don't see things EXACTLY as they are in reality. So, "mathematical" proportions sometimes are not the answer.
I would say take reference in what you consider "hot", practice those figures, trace, copy, grind through those references. And you will eventually draw what you want easily.
Keep at it, keep sketching anon.

You know, she looks hot already in your pic btw. And you must know giant fetish images are a challenge. You can go about it as you did there in your picture, or you can do what I did and try to force perspective out of the limits. You will never be accurate, because this pics are supposed to show something hot, some weird action that make the figure go out of a "reasonable" pose. You must prioritize appeal over perspective accuracy and realism though, that's non-negotiable. What I really don't like about these constructions is the face part of it. If I do her face in a "correct" perspective it looks ridiculous, because of the extreme angle and how far it is from the ground. So I tend to simplify their faces a lot to make them easily readable...
Anyway, these are always fun, I hope it helps! Keep at it man.

>>6686350
You know you did a nice caricature figure. I shouldn't "redline" anything here. It looks awesome, If I do a redline I'l just be redrawing your work in a different way, not a more "correct way". This is good. I can redraw it if you want just for fun. But it is great already.

I think if you review your sketch and the finished one compositionally, the sketch has more breathing space, allowing the character to ominously dominate all the space in the picture much like the buildings in the background - when you put all the traffic signal pole in both sides you actually made the character look smaller by trapping it into a "box"

the negative space around and simplicity made the sketch read much clearer.

Anon, you know, you did summarize beautifully in one sentence the work artists do. lol.
I was about to say "we", but I'm too introverted (?) to call myself an "artist", artists do exactly that, translate an idea into an image faking, breaking, taking shortcuts, implying, "lying", in the final goal to represent in a visual expression that idea. That's the "magic" of making art. You do something to make that happen. That something can be anything, that's art.

About the rest, I can't impress no one, here. Here? This is a null void, this is like the ram memory of some process happening here. We're all grinding, all this will disappear, lost in some infinite archives no one care about. This is almost non-existent. The closest thing to be nothing on the internet. We are just here to do something, an action, grinding. If I would want to impress someone I would go to twitter or some normie platform, but I don't want the hassle. I want to draw, just that, I don't want to check mails, messages, stats, I just want to draw. Can I draw anon? Please let me, I beg you! LMAO! Come on man. What the hell is the matter with you. Draw some shit and have fun!
I suck, did you see the other artists here? They are awesome. It must be harder for them to spend time here putting real quality work for nothing, because this place is nothing. Just a place to grind. So grind.

went out of my comfort zone with this one
im mainly concerned about the arms and the hair as i usually do not draw long hair
i think the body might be a bit disproportionate too but not sure how
any other improvements are appreciatd

That's a good question. Personally I say over stylized cartoon/caricature shouldn't need red lines. But, some anons want a different take on their designs, with a different style.
This is a place for art exchange and dialogue. Anyways.

Color isn’t important yet. As someone pointed out the head is kinda fucky so I’m asking about some pointers to how the figure could look better

Cool figure pose and construction, man. Yes if the figure is going to have details like that it needs some anatomical pointers for sure. But still this being an stylized figure, it is hard to find the balance to avoid going too realistic. Needs to be aware of that.

You know the harder thing was the hand on the torso, your hand is good, but I don't know way I wasn't feeling it. I placed the hand in like four different ways. The other hand hanging, it could be lower, but, that's up to you, this is not reality ruled by the laws of physics, bend the design to tell the story man, as long as it looks cool it is justified lol
Anyway I hope it helps anon.

Easy, he needed more jaw/chin, and more cranial space up there, his brain was a pancake.
But, I'm joking of course, let's say you're going for a particular facial likeness, you're building a character with a certain unique look. Then as long as you can make the design look good (with appeal/elegance/whatever) The head can have dumbo ears, and caterpillar brows, it doesn't matter. Professionals at pixar, disney, etc, have that as a job, and do it all the time.

Anyway good luck with the dude, have fun.

Anon, you're killing me. I shouldn't be touching this. I don't even know what I'm doing. You said you were worried about the slanted stance, and I made that slant even more pronounced, lol!
I'm holding this pic like a chinese vase, I don't want to touch it. I did the hands and arms in a totally insecure way. I'm sure you have something much better in mind.

You're at a hair distance to blow up in some instagram or whatever platform, these are just perfect designs. I have one request, when you have these style polished for mass posting on instagram (or whatever) you HAVE to do a Mona Lisa version of it. Her face and expression is just PERFECT for that.

Anon, you shouldn't be asking advice to lower artists, you should be making fans at instagram already.

you're a really skilled artist, I just have some suggestions for you. For the clothes on the breasts, you can suggest more form by making the clothes wrap around the form in an obvious way. For the hands, just doing more studies will take you very far. I'm no expert at hands, but this is what I can do with how much I've studied so far

Thanks for the help man! Unfortunately my attempt at fixing the head proportions ended up draining all the sovl and I’m kinda mad lol. I think increasing the chin and forehead ended up made the head look 2big though I know my initial sketch had it in tiny proportion. Will have to try again later, stylizing is rewarding but hard.

Wow, this is the first time I do a redrawing, a real one. I'll take this like an advertising job, (of course anon, you could be making this as intended for fun, or whatever)
But let's say that you have to do the logo monkee gal for an advert, but you're trying to do a literal monkey lol. I'll say that's a huge mistake, and that we ALWAYS have to find the appeal in any subject, doesn't matter what it is, a box, a bee, a fly, a car, even a letter. You've gotta give them a character, likeable and appealing character.
Well I gave her a pose with the board in an angle so you can use it to show something there maybe.
You can have the png and color it. Hope you like it.
