The preview images aren't what you get at all and the woman speaks in broken English but has such a thick accent it was difficult to understand some parts even after going back a few times. Just a word of advice. Steve huston primarily teaches constructive figure drawing.

I've identified 3 types of figure drawing

-Measured/atelier. Just pure measuring, sight size, comparative techniques, using angles, getting the figure 100% accurate. Not good if you want to do imaginative work.

-Constructive anatomy. This is the type of figure drawing that Michael hampton teaches. It involves constructing the major anatomical forms like the ribcage, pelvis, and involves a process of building up from those forms, adding muscles etc.

The third type, the one huston teaches is pure constructive figure drawing. He doesn't go deep into anatomy like talking about insertions and origins, and he teaches you about form, and simplifying figures into these forms. For example, seeing the ribcage, waist, and the top of the hips as one singular tube or cylinder and you add muscles on those simplified forms. Essentially, most of your drawing is less knowledge of the anatomy and more intuition, visual library, and memory. You can draw an arm convincingly without ever having studying the anatomy if you drew it a bunch of times and understand the form/3dness of it.

My thoughts on all of this? I feel like taking on constructive anatomy (hampton) as a beginner is probably a big task and you'll probably do less drawing and more studying of the anatomical forms. You'll hate yourself because you haven't drawn a single figure because you're too busy doing anatomical studies. Anatomy is a complex topic, and it will take more than a few months to get it all down.

If you want to get straight into drawing into people with no knowledge. Get Huston's books and copy his construction/drawings. You'll be able to draw a convincing figure, nothing crazy, but good enough. I also recommend picking up a basic drapery/clothing book so you won't just draw naked people, morpho is good. Once you're done with that then you can get into studying anatomy deeply.

Charcoal is harder to control. It's slower to build dark values with graphite.

Overall, graphite is easier (most ateliers today start their teaching with graphite, later move on to charcoal, then oils). Fine-rendering with charcoal is tedious, you're working against the medium. Things like Nitram should make things easier, but still.

Sketching is better suited for charcoal.

Look for Preston Blair's animation book. It's fairly standard, a bean for the body, head is a circle, add a center line to position the eyes, the beak is but a rectangular volume on the lower part of the mouth.

You're better off learning animation from an industry professional like Richard Williams, Vilppu, Aaron Blaise and Ethan Becker than from some amateur that never worked in the industry and thinks he can teach animation.
