The law also carried penalties if platforms failed to curb that. And there's no way you can moderate Twitter hard enough to comply with EU law.
Plus imagine if he did and started banning US citizens because some cuck in Belgium saw you post things that are illegal in his country, or LatAM users because Spain complained about their unlimited racism, Twitter would last a month.

>majority of EU countries are freer than America
NTA; Pretty sure it's about the same. There's a strong USA influence in EU politics (Young Leaders) for instance. There's a big problem with the EU: EU laws are not voted by the actual people, nor by a pure representation of the people (it's quite diluted), and by default, override local laws.

That's to say, EU acts towards EU countries as an un-elected power, and slowly, year after year, eats their sovereignty.

Let me give you two examples: I'm French, and the EU pays our farmers to throw away copious amount of milk every year, so as to allow ""fairer"" competition with poorer EU members. Second example: we've destroyed our nuclear industry, because it was ""unfair"" that we had such a strong economical advantage.

The people were never consulted about it, never were educated about it and its consequences.

And having a few energy-strong countries in EU would have avoided lots of issues, especially with its price increase thanks to the """sanctions""" held against Russia (again, nobody voted to stop buying gas from Russia, some leaders chose to do it because it was le good)

But it's very difficult to evaluate accurately which one is "freer" than the others. Compared to obvious elements like China, it's clear tho. But in the West, comparison is much more subtle. But EU doesn't feel like a democracy, at all. There are exceptions (northern countries, Switzerland)

>>6677886
I don't necessarily disagree with most of the stuff you said, yet note that I was talking about EU *countries* rather than the EU structure itself. If a country really wants to oppose the EU from within, that is completely possible, case in point, Hungary or Poland. The EU can't fight back because of the veto. As another European, I think the EU certainly could withdraw from some matters like some of the ones you mention, and actually gain power in some matters, like international trade. I don't think we should be permissive of China buying up our ports, and I want the sanctions to be more uniform and unified to act against undemocratic countries outside of the EU. We definitely disagree on Russia, but you must admit that one benefit that Hungary has from being inside the EU, and not a state in the USA, is that they were able to avoid sanctioning Russia basically at all.
But yes, I was actually talking about countries.
The USA is less free because it is filled with:
>gerrymandering
which is rampant compared to the EU and taken for granted
>corporate campaign donations
which are, as far as I've seen in several EU countries, forbidden and parties are funded by taxes. This is just open bribery. The candidate with more money behind them wins like 80% of the time in the USA.
>judicial tyranny
not present where I'm from or the other few countries that I'm familiar with. Courts have their place and the supreme court can't whisk away rights or cancel laws that are very popular.
>filibuster
You need a constitutional majority in the senate to enact laws, which is retarded.

I could go on, these are just some examples of the shitshow in the USA which matches or is close to matching clown tier corrupt places like Hungary.

They don't want oversight over him, they want him to comply to EU laws and not American laws which are much more lenient with speech and dissent.
Things that are sometimes are straight out illegal in the EU.
The EU is perfectly fine to have rules different for their nations but they want non EU citizens to be subject to EU law. Turkey and India are not trying to force the world to comply to their laws like the EU is doing.
Stop trying to pretend that countries that don't even have free speech laws are trying to do anything other than restrict people with this move.

It's more complicated than that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_French_European_Constitution_referendum.. The people's choice was later bypassed anyway.

>I don't think we should be permissive of China buying up our ports
Agreed. China is extremely protective of its market, why can't we allow ourselves a similar stance, especially given their moral positioning.

>We definitely disagree on Russia
Let's say that my point of view is more balanced. The USA are well-known to have sowed trouble in this area, Ukraine is a well-known corrupted country, and they really are the big winner in this conflict.

I don't agree with Russia, but neither do I agree with EU stance nor the West at large: the conflict seems to, as always, serve some private interests. A more peaceful, more thoughtful and long-term decisions should have been made instead of "meh Russia u ded bro"

Regarding your other points, I'm not resourceful enough to argue properly: I don't have a clear view of what's actually happening either in the USA nor here.

But, at least in France, I can tell you for sure than young people basically don't believe in a political solution at all: you have one or two generation who has never knew the country without (major) political scandals, so the mindset "all corrupted" is the norm.

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89lections_municipales_fran%C3%A7aises_de_2020

55% of the pop. didn't bother voting at the first round of the last presidential election (58% for second round; that's the only real democratic action left here, one vote every 5 years). Second round was won at 60% by the current president, some of those votes being not conviction votes ("I vote against the other choice").

Which means, the majority of the people is currently unrepresented, and the current president "represents" about 25% of the population.

Hardly qualifies as democratic in my book!

There are countries were political involvement is considerably greater (Switzerland comes to mind). The problem is that this was decided "globally", and the consequences were never clearly explained to the people.

Economists will tell you "economy is transformed energy": if the energy prices increase, everything else increase (in particular food; we're now seing a 20% inflation or so?).

In particular in a democratic political regime, the leaders are supposed to represent the people, and as such, take actions that benefits their people, obviously to reasonable extents. Not take actions that will be quickly detrimental to the population.

They're simply not doing what they've been elected to do.

Same thing as confiscating Russian oligarchs goods out of "booo le Russian is vile" mentality. That's pure theft, it's a lawless action. And that kind of move contributes to chase other non-EU investors: "If I don't act as you wish, you might seize my stuff? Well, lemme gtfo"

That's the way it's always been, wars and stuff. There are periods of calm, ups and downs. Most people in the West today have always knew calm/slow decline and so struggle to understand what's a real down period, but statistically speaking, things are been steady since, say, WWII now.

So not so surprising to see a stepper and stepper overall decline.

>well I still see a lot of euros who feel free to talk shit on us burgers so enough of them are content with it.
Nah, not because you're being laughed at that people are happy with what they have either (nor that people even understand if they really should be happy or not with what they have).

EU should have remained a light way to balance stuff between EU countries, but power corrupts, and some guys just never have enough. EU countries aren't comparable to US states: there are strong, deep cultural differences, they can't be unified by the stroke of a pen.

Would have been wiser to keep them different and to play on their individual strength/weaknesses instead of trying to level everyone. But it's much simpler to administrate and evaluate something that's level, so that's the option Our Wise Leaders have chosen.

I can understand being discouraged by 300 views and no likes, but 35 just means you aren't reaching viewers which is a luck thing, not a personal failing. Most people don't actually use the tags and search bar. Especially if it's not a currently trendy topic. Most twitterfags get their content via whoever they follow and that's it. Or they'll only view the top posts of a search term to find some popular fanartist to follow, then scour their likes for other artists to follow. Relying on tags is a slow crawl to start, even if your art is good. You have to be god tier to take off just by that method. Otherwise you just have to keep trying because it's the luck of the draw. The right person at the right time has to be sniffing through the tags sorted by recent. And then they have to like your piece enough to retweet it. If they have at least a couple hundred followers, you'll start seeing some growth and way more exposure. I've played this game a lot because I keep deleting accounts and starting over. Don't think too much about it, just keep drawing and hope luck favors you.

I already nuked my account weeks ago. The entire site is now synonymous with alt right echo chambers such as parlor and truthsocial, which is why advertisers are pulling out en masse. Soon enough merely continuing to associate with it could land you in hot water at some point in the foreseeable future. If you're someone who cares about reputation and don't already rely on the platform financially I advise you do the same.

Your happening already happened, you're just not going to get a fireworks show of a trainwreck ending. Gradually less and less people will use it and drop out quietly for other websites like they did with myspace and facebook. If you're expecting the site to just 404 or something you're a retard.

When's the last time Euros innovated in any industry that actually mattered? Europeans are getting outpaced by Americans and East Asia while India and Brazil are finally starting to catch up. In a few decades, at the rate everyone else is going and the stagnation that Europe has been miring in lately, they'll be lagging behind in every major industry.

Never said anything about the website 404-ing or anything like that, tard. My post was about anons panicking about what website to use for art. Except the ones most artists use are Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram. People call Tumblr dead all the time, and people freak out over Twitter and Insta being a shitty place for artists every week. But artworks are still blowing up and new young artists are still coming and growing followings anyway.
Just keep using any of those places because it'll be years before a comparable platform makes it big. And they aren't comparable to myspace, which wasn't known for having huge artist communities, nor facebook, which lacks the addicting social media aspect of twitter and markets itself on connecting with people you know in real life(obviously a deterrent for many social media users).

Complain all you want, but are you actually doing something? Have you screaped your favorite artists profiles? Have you learnt how to set up a website so you can self-host? Do you know how to use VPNs, proxies, Tor and such? Do you have local backups of your work instead of relying on cloud services? Do you know any other languages so you can promote yourself on countries that are not under anglosphere influence?

Start hoarding NOW, the internet WILL become complete shit in a few years and finding stuff will be hard as fuck.

Very true. At some point the internet will not be "free" as we know it. Every modern country will have their own America online type portal only hosting websites with servers within the country. There may be "international airport" type zones with free roam from any country, but these areas will be HEAVILY moderated.

Not sure: if this really happens, then they'll be an incentive to build bridges to connect the various networks. And there's probably be a few ideology-driven wealthy enough people to sponsor some of them.

Remember, the Internet was designed by the US military in an attempt to dispose of a resilient network infrastructure. In its modern incarnation, there are centralized elements (network operators, social media) but they are not a technical requirement to the network itself.

Let me give you an example: at a city scale, you could think of setting wireless routers every 50m, and allow traffic to be routed from one point of the city to another: that's an independent, local network. You just need a few tech savvy people to set it up and help maintain it.

Of course, it can be targeted by authorities, but then, it's a cat & mouse game. For similar reasons, official infrastructures too can break/be broken.

Going local is likely to help solves a bunch of issues. It's insane that it's cheaper to import vegetables from the other side of the Earth, left to ripe while transiting, instead of growing locally (okay, not out-of-seasons blabla, you get the idea).

I've heard banks used to be local before too, hence they couldn't grow into what's economically is as powerful as a state. Regarding communications, it would force people to know who they're talking to, to know that when they're writing "fuck you dumb retarded nigga", the nigga could actually be knocking at his door 5min later.

You know, people like to shit on the Jews a lot, but your average Joe (pun intended) understands the impact of locality: regular social interactions in a small community forces people to be accountable https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RyeYiBu3EA

Most people are more likely to abuse a total stranger when they know they won't have to ever see him again, but they'll be much more reluctant to do as well to someone they interact with frequently.

That's a very good point, and a future like that could possibly lead to communities actually improving. Back in the day the whole town used to go to church on Sunday so community was developed there. Converting something similar in a digital space should improve mental health among other things. Social media gives a sort of "behavioral sink" effect, it stresses people out by giving you a sense of overcrowding. I think it helps explain how the quality of online discussion seems to have taken a nosedive.

I don't see America trying this unless it's already been tried elsewhere, like the EU. I'll admit state controlled anything, much less something as free as the internet is absolutely terrifying to me, but it may be one of out only options for keeping it as tech changes.
