Yeah, it's fun. You still have at least 30 years in front of you to practice and eventually get good if you wish. As long as you have time, some resources to cover the basics, and enjoy it, nothing else matters.

Yea, it will make you more remarkable than the other NPCs you hang around. Most people buy shit to derive happiness. Something like drawing (Which is an arduous skill to hone) is beyond 99% of the populations' scope.

And of course, drawing is fun once you reach a point where you can reasonable draw most things that come to mind.

Do it. I'm in a somewhat similar situation to you. I used to be pretty good at drawing (at least for my age) when I was younger. When I graduated high school I basically stopped drawing altogether. I recently had the urge to try drawing from life again, so I bought a cheap sketchbook and a pen and tried drawing seriously for the first time in almost a decade. Needless to say I suck now, but the fun of drawing is still there. There's really nothing else like it, you can sit anywhere and spend hours drawing all by yourself and still be entertained.

Would going to the zoo to draw animals be a good place to practice? I really suck but I want to get better, and I also want to see the monkeys. I'm just worried people will see me drawing, assume I know what I'm doing, then come over and see how shit my sketches are.

Yuh. I started drawing last year at 28. Just be sure you have enough free time to draw for a few hours daily. You have to fight super hard to push past the first phase where you're on the same level as a middle schooler and you can't get your ideas out onto paper, but it gets fun eventually like other anons said

You can git gud in about 4 years. Google ramon hurtado & spend the 200 to audit his drawing class when he offers it next. He does not fuck around. Will give you a base of study for the rest of your life.

If you start at at an old age, is there a different place you need to start from, or should everyone start from the same fundies no matter how old

>> No.6678226

>>6677978
Nobody should "start" with the fundies. You start by drawing what you want for a good while, like a year+
Actively studying fundies goes nowhere unless you have a modicum of skill. The first step is to build that modicum of skill by making the stuff you want to make on your own. It's entirely possible to pick up on fundamentals by just making stuff and comparing it to better art or life without really devoting time to study. Oh, and seriously do yourself a favor and leave /ic/. It's a waste of time that is easy to convince yourself isn't. The sticky is alright for getting an idea of what to study when you think you're ready to study, but the board itself is a time-killer and nothing more.

great advice. I started with pokemon and dbz. I imagine I'd have quit if I started with cubes. no harm in doing some basic fundies on the way though, just don't make it the majority.

I was thinking that too when I was your age, young Anon. It wasn't until four years later, a few weeks ago when I actually did it. My doodles fucking suck ass, they're so bad it's embarrassing, but drawing things from my imagination rocks.

Go ahead, pick up that pen, give it a shot. If you're anything like me and have never created before, you'll find that just keeping at it every day will be almost impossible. You might need to figure out what makes you tick and how to force yourself into discipline. Every obstacle will be a problem to solve before you can even start drawing.

Chances are what I'm about to tell you won't mean anything to you until you've actually run into those problems yourself. Find a way to identify and then push through negative emotions. That includes fear at the base of artist's block and perfectionism. Find someone you can talk to about your art journey, you won't make it all alone, I don't think doing that on /ic/ anonymously is gonna work. Your drawings will start out bad, so look for anything you're getting out of the process and remember to cherish that feeling of joy if you do find it. You need to make a habit of drawing if you want your hobby to go anywhere, so try to make some time every day and don't give up.
