While people complain about modern western art being generally dogshit (which it is btw), can we also agree that japanese art since around 2010 or so has been extremely soulless, samey and derivative as well? Perhaps a reflection of modern Japanese culture as well. Korean and China slowly getting their share of soft power on Japan will probably make things worse in the future for both their art and their media: we all known how batshit insane they are regarding chensorship and such, much worse than american activists.

I think what we lack is that 70-90 vibe of "To the future!"... People sort of quite the concept of "The glorious future we build together!" The dreams of the moon, of mars, of discovery kinda went silent... No one invests in it as before, and culture sort of regressed to basic comfort-zone life... Things repeat themselves because everyone wants to be sheltered in the familiar - That includes massive industries... It's like we lost the drive of life along the way.

The claim of everything going down will lead to a breakthrough is succumbing to the global vibe of late-roman empire... Everyone sort of slacks of, living the comfortable dream, and watching as it all collapse under them without a care in the world, because they didn't built it, they just leeched out of it with no goal or aim.

The youth of Japan is dreary because they are overly-structured... Their cubical way of life and extremely strict life style just withers them away as a nation.
However... SInce we know a little detail called "Western generic nonsense", we can clearly see that it's actually another symptom of the "Comfort zone", Japan reached a certain peak of it's style, same as the west, and kinda just sharpens the pencil until it's gone without actually doing anything with it.
They, like most of the world, lacks that spark that makes a person get up in the morning and make a breakthrough.
Culture motivates mass appeal, mass attention, mass profit... So, everyone keeps aiming to just people-pleasing.

Break the mold, take the risk - leap to the moon again... That's the way out of generics.

It sounds like he aimed to make something happen through his art... And yeah, it is felt - You can see the enthusiasm with nature, with various epic machines and exploration... The whole "we are wonderful people in a complex world"... Allot of optimism, opening up, seeing new and grand vistas and human potential.

And that's where the issue resides - too much dreams, too little base.

A theorists will just test, see if it works, take notes of what actually happened as a result, and adjust to see if something else will produce the desired goal... And through and through, until having enough data to see what the actual results are.

Idealism may produce allot of big feelings and love to the concept... But, they won't change reality and tend to die down through the sheer weight of simple reality.

The Japanese are pretty shrewd. Their businesses get caught up in shady shit and practice unreasonable policies all the time. Nintendo is a good current example of how far they'll go to protect their own interests but you can see it in youtube video copyright strikes, taking down foreign anime/manga hosting and such too. Their police are absolutely ruthless, same with their judicial system. Those, and the western press, are inherently tied to their news industry. The average employee is expected to follow orders no matter how unreasonable. They maintain their politeness and appear to be humble, but go beyond the individual and they struggle to apologize for wrongdoing and have a superiority complex. Most of all when they're dealing with any entities that aren't themselves japanese. I fear what they would be if they weren't american lapdogs on a leash. And I say this as someone who likes their cultural contributions to the world very much.

It's a different world over there now. Anime is practically a completely different animal at this point and the viewers evolved with it, foreign or domestic.
Generally the japanese dont like old things. Old houses, old styles, old shows. Makes sense that weebs obsessed with japan will share that mentality. Even kawaii culture is falling out of favor. It's being replaced with this weird forced otaku flavor of cute. Young girls seem more interested in cool sleek Kpop type style than hearts, fluffy looking pets and emoticons with sparkles. They even have their own version of ironic humor where shit is drawn extremely poorly and ugly on purpose which they find quite funny. Pop Team Epic really shined a spotlight on that. It's just a young people's country that tailors to young crowds with the latest new hotness. And it is going to be really fucking fun to see how that's going to work out with their population collapse.

I'm not going to defend the low quality or the plastic-ness of everything Korea makes, but you can't blame them for copying Japanese animation when they were the sweatshop outsource destination for multiple decades and thats what their animators and artists were practicing.

He is such a horrible person, his inflated ego and sheer vanity impulses him to treat everyone with comptempt and disrected that is absolutely unacceptable. The way he treats his son and coworkers is intolerable, and only God knows what punishment awaits this asshole who keeps insulting, bashing and shitting on the industry to which he owes absolutely everything, calling everyone who enjoys it insults less than human, every work that's not his "trash" and only to come crawling to it again and again to profit without love. His disdain is so severe that at one point in his career he stopped doing the art he could be delivering, he stopped doing movies with an original vision that trascended the media with unique things that only japanese animators could make to instead solely focus on a children demographic simply out of a very hateful spite for his adult audience, creating works that, while still masterpieces, are ultimately a disney product in japanese and not the real originality that what he would perfectly be able to deliver
I don't think he should be forgiven for calling his son's work trash and abandoning the projection mid screening to not even look him in the face, implying, and sometimes even outright stating that he was a god of the arts too superior and almighty to even care to take a look at anyone's efforts, not even his own son.
Miyazaki is just a horrible man engorged in arrogance, which I know its a common among genius artists, but to me his case reaches an unforgivable level. In comparison Tezuka was, at the very least, a funny as fuck westaboo and constantly shown love for the work of other people as much as he loved himself.
Arrogance is not having an inflated ego, arrogance is thinking you are superior to everyone else.

Then how come Korea is becoming so much more culturally dominant in the world than Japan? Every asiaboo I know loves Korean culture, food, fashion, music and movies while only fat weebs and other social rejects have the same open love for Japanese culture. Everybody talks about when they're going to go to Korea now, despite the constant threats of war. Korea just seems so much cooler than Japan.

The obsession with Korean entertainment in Japan has completely wiped out interest in western entertainment over there in the past 5 years. Western movies/entertainment used to be huge in Japan but now not even a single western film outside of the usual blockbuster can make it in their top 10 box office anymore.
Look at the Japanese music charts too, tons of kpop but only 1 western song in the entire top 100 when the Japanese top 100 used to be 40/50% western music like 10 years ago. Many young Japanese people, especially girls, probably wouldn't be able to name you a western actor anymore, whereas they know hundreds of Korean singers and actors and have their posters all over their walls.
But that's not a Japan only problem either, most american mass entertainment lost relevance and connection with the world. In fact, right now it's insular and peripheral even in the US.

They're tuned in to the same trends as the west, instead of having/making their own isolated world like they did on the early internet. I assume international websites like twitter are to blame.
