Yes, I make illustration for magazines, big gaming studios and host over 170 artists who make posters and marketing stuff.
here's my opinion on what you should think;
agents are shit unless you have created your own working studio (game studio, comic studio, newspaper illustrator you name it).
Just git gut and don't think about it yet, you'll know when you'll need one because by then you'll have trouble managing artists you hired and the art requests you receive.

You don't have any studio right now nor do professional work so why would you need one.
This is a personal advice, from yours truly.

Okay being serious for a momen, an agent can be anyone, even an Intern will do as long as you tell him to properly manage, document and catalogue your work and deadlines. They should take care of all that AND look out for new opportunities and ways of advertising. Basically a secretary on steroids.
Professional agents usually advertise themselves as "business agents" or info brokers, they are the best sort to buy (but they cost quite the sum) if you need a right hand-extension.
