How do I get good at drawing? I'm left handed, have perpetually shaky hands, ADHD, autism and a learning disability. Almost 24.

I've wanted to get good at art since I was a teen but I've lacked the motivations, resources and teachings to get started.

I don't know

just copy other people and you'll figure what you actually enjoy and can do for yourself. nothing you do needs to be original or skillfully made if you're just starting out

however i diagnose you with a very obvious and extreme anxiety problem and you should probably go get that checked out instead of looking into a new hobby with questions that sound like you need your choices validated by other people

>I'm left handed, have perpetually shaky hands, ADHD, autism and a learning disability. Almost 24.
Sounds like excuses to avoid drawing.
>I've wanted to get good at art since I was a teen but I've lacked the motivations
It seems like you're enamored with the idea of being an artist, but you don't actually want to actually draw.

>which brush size to use
>optimal size to draw digitally
Doesn't really matter, but you can just look at existing artwork in their original resolution, like probably the pic you just attached.

>good pressure curve to start out with
Just a matter of taste. A straight line is good enough for most things.
>how to find a comfortable pressure curve
just draw
>how to undo bad habits like drawing stiff figures
draw more figures from ref
>how to fix shitty lines you're too used to drawing
just draw more
>how to get better when you're experienced but /beg/
If you're /beg/ you're not experienced.

You're suffering from analysis paralysis. The last thing you need is a resource. Just open your drawing program and draw, loser. Learn to enjoy drawing first.

Damn, you've made yourself a very good list of excuses not to try.
From the list, these are the only ones worth really paying attention right now:
>how to undo bad habits like drawing stiff figures
Gesture drawing, drawing from life, and to actually think about movement, stop overthinking about what's right and what isn't, you're stifling your ability to recreate figures by commiting to every little line you make. Let fuck ups be fuck ups, you can always fix it afterwards with some reference or studying specific parts of the body, keep in mind if you're looking for a natural pose the answer is out there already, so don't try to reinvent the wheel, just learn to capture the gist of it, style will come naturally.
>how to fix shitty lines you're too used to drawing
First, you need to reframe your line of questioning, shitty lines is too broad, what exactly makes it shitty? is it just the line? or is it that you're trying to produce the turning of a muscle and the line seems to completely miss the details by looking cartoonish? is it that? or that every line looks the same, making your drawings too flat? do you feel like it doesn't represent a figure in space? why?
>how to get better when you're experienced but /beg/
I'm guessing what you mean is that you want to escape the crab bucket, it's by changing your attitude towards mistakes or lack of knowledge, you're too fixated on the right answer while avoiding the exercise that demands you too get out of that state, practice while focusing on answering your questions, don't mindlessly do it. If you're the ADHD then keep notes on what you do and what you've learned, even notes of mistakes to keep it as a reminder that you need to learn about that, which could mean just finding a ref, watching a video or a book/course on the subject.
Be proactive about it, you're not the only artist who had to face these hurdles.

Really just depends what your computer can handle, but I normally stick to width and heights around the 3000px-4000px range. Also I think even numbers compress better when you upload online, so I always make sure to do that

I'm in a very similar position to you anon. I'm 22 and have a learning disability with pretty bad hand tremors. I'd recommend that you just get drawing - it doesn't really matter what. Do you have any work to share right now? I can try to help.

I'm probably high-beg to low int right now, but I've never done any studying or anything beyond just drawing what I like as sort of a "compliment" to my other autistic hobbies (namely writing and roleplaying). With studying, I'd imagine a lot of my shortcomings could be improved upon.

So I think you'll be alright (esp with studying, since im "ok" with no studying). Just pick something you like and try to draw it. My learning disability has obliterated my sense of spatial understanding (it is dyscalculia) so I am not sure I'll ever reach /pro/ levels but int is definitely plausible.

I don't think you should put yourself down because your disabled though. I'm about to graduate college with a 3.8 GPA in a math-field and I'm doing good in most other aspect of life (soon to be married, love my hobbies, good friends). You really just need a positive mindset. I hope this wasn't too preachy I just hate to see people in the same boat as me put themselves down. just remember that drawing is supposed to be fun, so dont overthink it. srry for reddit spacing btw

First you have to get out of your own way. It is easier said than done, but when you pick up a pencil and have a reference to practice from, don't discriminate how you draw. You must learn to enjoy the expirience. If drawing is like pulling teeth or feels like unenjoyable work, you WILL give up. And, honestly, i would argue its a minor lifestyle change considering drawing is a high effort/low output hobby that takes a lot of time.

>ADHD
I have it too (I was diagnosed with ADD and I have been unmedicated my whole life). It can be challenging to finish work but I still draw all the time. I have a little portable drawing pad that I bring everywhere, and when I get the urge to draw from sudden bursts of inspiration I jot out a doodle on the pad. If you're like me where you can't put time aside for anything without losing all motivation, then you should give that idea a go.
And for God's sake dont put yourself down. Anyone can pick up a pencil and learn. Anyone can change their lifestyle. Just don't be surprised that it takes a lot of effort.

This is me. You're basically in the same boat as me except I don't have self diagnosed brain problems. Stop overthinking everything and draw. Questions you can find answers to will present themself as you draw, but broad generalist questions like what you're saying don't help anyone. The only thing holding me (and probably you honestly) back is a videogame addiction, and there's no way to fix that besides discipline.
Also, copy things instead of trying to immediately jump into construction. It's way easier exercise for a beginner and it's what most of these "draw as a kid" fucks did anyway.

No idea if you're being genuine or if this is bait but OP, I've also got autism and ADHD, a separate learning disability, and chronic pain which gives me limited mobility in my hands. I'm a bit older than you, but trust me, you can do it. I've had similar feelings/doubts but I'm a freelance illustrator now and legitimately if I can do this, you can too.

The vast majority of "learning to draw" and "getting good" is just trial, error, and repetition; and for people like us with learning issues, fucking sheer brute-force learning.

The way I learned to draw better was literally weaponizing my autism and ADHD hyperfixations. Get obsessed with a particular subject and you will have the motivation to draw it over and over again. Doesn't matter what. A particular character from something (or an original character); a style of architecture; and extinct animal; a particular plant; etc. Can be one specific thing or multiple. Use that as a motivation to experiment and as motivation to build up knowledge of fundamentals.

Additionally, you need to accept that whilst artists who don't have autism/ADHD/etc can read about fundamentals and go "alright, that makes sense!", for people like us the knowledge needs to be digested in a different way. It took me a long time to realize that reading books on art and watching tutorials and looking at other peoples processes' wasn't actually helping me but wasting my time, because that's not how I learn best.

Everyone is different and you'll need to figure out how you learn best yourself. It can be an uphill battle on it's own, but it's important if you're serious about this. Additionally, having people just tell you how to do things isn't going to help. Yeah, people can point you in the right direction, but you need to put in the work. Even artists who don't have ADHD/autism/etc have tens of thousands of sketches, studies, etc. behind them that never see the light of day, and that's completely normal.

Yeah I'm the same almost exactly. I've got a ton of OCs and have a story planned out but am eternally putting it off because "oh no what if it's not good enough" "oh no i can't draw backgrounds that well yet". I get commissions regularly but I feel like I need more experience on comics/narrative illustrations before I'm good enough to really start a project of my own.

At the moment I'm in a really weird spot where my autism has latched onto my girlfriends OC who was the final boss of a homebrew D&D campaign she ran, so I'm drawing her character a lot (she has no complaints because hey, free art even if I am in turboautism mode) and using it as an opportunity to practice more complex backgrounds/scenes. But I can't post the art anywhere because she's running the homebrew campaign for like four different groups and not all of them have hit the final boss yet, so can't get feedback on if the backgrounds actually look decent

Just kinda hoping my brain latches onto something else that I can share more easily and get feedback on soon
