No, it's okay when you're 15; 20 it starts to look weird;30 you're supposed to be married and having kids, so definitely no-no.

But now that I think of it, 40 you've got the mid-life crisis, so I guess I could allow an exception. But by your late 40s, as you dick gets tired of being raised and stroked for decades, you should start to move on to more interesting subjects.

But seriously, you've got some decent skills, it's a bit of a shame not to use them for kids books or stuff like that

I don't really see what in my post raised this worry of yours.

Besides, I don't really think there's an issue with caring about what others think of you. There's an issue with over-caring, but that's an extreme. And that's even more phantasmagorical understanding of my words.

I've learn a bit of classical music earlier: you progressively learn to play a piece, notes per notes, one session at a time. You have to play slow because you can't play any other way, your fingers, muscles, memory slowly develops.

Drawing's the same.

Discipline can be trained. You need to have a motivation for it tho.

Okay. FWIW (you do what you want with it) I've very often observed that kind of tortuous interpretations among gay guys.

It's like if I say "the sky is blue" they'll come at me with a "why do you hate rainbows?" That just doesn't make any sense, and is very characteristic of gay guys. Not sure if it holds with lesbos.

https://web.stanford.edu/class/archive/cs/cs103/cs103.1132/lectures/09/Small09.pdf you should study this before drawing.

(And actually, it's not just "me looking at others", more "me looking at others through some very specific lenses", but I don't have time / the will to go in much more depth).

Young people feeling like they are already too old is a common thing. 18 to 21 is a especially problematic range since that's when most guys feel the pressure of having to ''become an adult'' weighing in and that makes them self-conscious of their shortcomings in ways they didn't before. By the time 30s come those early 20s will look like a youth heaven that he didn't got to appreciate as he should, the current insecurities will seem silly.

But truth is that approaching any age range from the perspective that time is running out is silly. a 10 years old is theoretically 60 years away from death while a 30 is 40 years away; does it really make that much of a difference? Both have their days numbered and the difference isn't that large when we really think about it.
Everyone is gonna die eventually, thinking that being 20 or 30 makes that much of a difference is just splitting hairs.

A) Sketch out a drawing and forever leave it unfinished, or
B) I draw the piece fully detailed directly with no sketch
With practically no middle ground. It's like I don't want to touch a piece again past the initial burst of inspiration/interest that got me to draw it. I've just now started to come to terms with the possibility that I've struggled with ADHD my whole life, which would explain a lot of things. he’s staring so i guess he wants something
he asks for some paper abd a pencil
wierd but i give it to him
kid stands at the counter for 30 mins and draws attatched image.
hands it to me and walks out
it’s kind of crude but impressive for an 11 year old with no eraser or refrences.

I saved you for last because we're in our 40's, so I know the struggle of starting roughly ten or so years ago and feel like we're behind this, imaginary curve we were brought up to believe when we were kids. You're not behind on anything friend, we're riding this wave at a super chill pace, enjoying being in the moment. I'm sorry to hear about your brain problems and I sincerely hope you have those in check as you live day to day, keep your fucking head up even when the demons tell you to quit. Look those motherfuckers right in their eyes and smile the fear of Death into them.
And hey, our full time jobs pay the fucking bills, they keep the eggs and tortillas stocked in our fridges and gas in our tanks.
Draw whenever you have a chance to, give yourself time. It's not over for us by a long shot, we have the rest of our lives to enjoy drawing as our primary passion, our one and only love that we give ourselves, something that truly belongs to us. Some around us will call it a hobby and that's cool, but we both know it's much more than that.
It helps propel us forward, encouraging us to take on a brand new day with the hope that at the end of it, we can sit down for a few hours and get lost in our imaginations, bringing whatever we want to life by the stroke of a pencil, pen, or brush. Don't hold back on your work man, let your art make you smile like mine does for me. Because at the end, when all this shit is said and done, we can look back and say I drew, because it made me happy.
Godspeed. Though I may never meet you in real life, know that I would gladly shake your hand to let you know that you're not alone in the journey. There are still some of us out here who are drawing right alongside you, despite our problems, bringing our dreams to life. Never for the glory. Only for the love.
Draw like a madman and if you want an art trade, let me know. I'll draw you anything you want. I want to share my carte blanche with you.
Love you, man. No homo. haha!

Well, don't lose the fun of it, that's the important thing. If you're drawing for fun, you need to keep it that way. It makes you happy, and that's vital to your learning process.
Studying is really good, whatever subjects you like and don't be afraid to apply what you've learned, to your work today. And what I mean by studying something else and expanding your abilities is, draw some comic book style, cartoon style, throw in some fantasy, throw in some erotic art, try some horror, try some mecha, cars, animals, anything you can get your hands on right now.
What that will do is it will force your ability to draw to go beyond just anime, allowing yourself something new to learn. Build those folds in your brain.
Drawing anime is not bad, but if it's the only thing you know how to do, it'll get boring for you. Maybe it will, maybe it won't, I don't know you or how you feel about your art, but it helps to draw outside of your comfort zone. : )

>> No.6661712

>>6661677
Soul means retaining that part of your work that makes it yours. Like what you posted. It's messy, it's all over the place, but there's an eroticism to it that only you, know how to apply to it. It's about telling a story with your art, why does she have a nose ring, what's the story behind the studded, forked tongue? Why is your character's hair pink? Those teeth are sharp, why is that. That's what I mean by soul. Keep that.
Bill Ward's work is Conte crayon cheesecake mastery at its finest. I wish I could recommend someone alongside him, but I'm sure you can some inspiration with pin up art from the 50's. In fact, there's a little Bill in your work with what you posted, more modern, but it's there in your style.
And like I mentioned to this anon >>6661698 , keep it fun, no matter what you're learning. Let it make you smile when you're drawing it; this, big fucking grin on your face that hurts your cheekbones after about an hour of creating something.

Anyways, it was an automatic drawing/doodle and I had my brain turned off for 90% of it, so I'm not sure I'd really call it "applying myself". Like I said, I just work off of bursts of inspiration and once that's over I can't be bothered to work on a piece anymore.

No. Artists are allowed to draw other things.

See my reply below...
>Your "advice" is just a dumb rant.
Learning to draw other styles other than anime, or working with other mediums, or attempting to gain as much functional knowledge about your craft as you possibly can, or learning how to draw a face correctly before attempting to draw anime, or learning to draw a body correctly first before exaggerating it, doesn't sound like bad advice to me. Your "reply", sound like something I would have answered with years ago. I'm glad I'm no longer in that frame of mind or that state of heart anymore. I'm a better baker now, like pic related.

Our tastes can't be your tastes, you have to find artists that really want to make you draw out of your comfort zone so that you can really study. Your digital coloring is really nice, don't lose that at all, just try something different. And when you do look for other artists, don't find the same style as yours. Try a Michael Turner or an Alex Ross, try a Frank Frazetta or a Doug Sneyd, or a Dean Yeagle.
Look for professional artists who are well established and not internet artists who are the same age as you are. Learn from the pros, not from kids who have little to no professional experience. You'll learn nothing from them, you'll be wasting your time. Good luck!

I don't sell my work kid, I draw because it makes me happy. I give out free requests when I can, because I want to make other people happy. I do art trades because I want to make other artists happy with what I love to do. I love my grind; I'm excited every day, wanting to draw something more.
I'm not a slave to my own art. I haven't traded my passion for glory. And that's all I've ever wanted in my life, to draw not because I have to, but because I love to.
I hope most of you here find this feeling in your lives—even the kids trying to crab on me. I love you too. Cheers.

If you feel there are many things you can improve on, just focus on one until you are satisfied with your progress in that area and then move on. Just take it a step at a time.

If you don't know what to do, try focusing on sharpening a fundamental skill. This has worked 10/10 times for me personally desu. Also helped me to identify other stuff I'm weak in as well.

Well, one thing you can do for your regular commissioners, so that it doesn't come as a complete shock to them, is let them know that you'll be trying other styles of art to better your love for your craft. It'll be like telling them, "Hey guys, I want to study and learn, do you all want to come along for the ride?" I'm sure many of them will be excited for you to try something new, but they'll be happy to know that at your core, you will still be, their favorite artist from whom to commission from.
It's both exciting and scary at the same time wanting to try other styles (believe me, I've been there), but don't be afraid. You're only 25, the amount of knowledge you're going to gain from you doing this, will be immeasurable. Look for comic book artists that you like, look for fantasy artists that you like, look for horror artists you like, pin up artists, study the Old Masters, cartoon artists, anyone you can get your hands on. Some you'll like, and it'll stir something in you that makes you go, "Holy shit, that looks really, really nice. I want to study that.'
And that's the feeling you're looking for. The, okay, let's fucking do this, kind of feeling. And your regulars, will love for you for it. Because you're not only learning for yourself, you're learning for them, too. You'll be happy, and they'll be happy, too. I'm excited for you, fren! You can do this!

When you find those pigments you're looking for, you'll be really happy to continue on the forgotten, valued tradition of paint, more so than you're doing now. I'm actually looking at your painted piece again and it reminds me a lot of Bill Alexander mixed in with just the right amounts of Bob Ross, I'm sure you're familiar with both. Your painting tells a story, one of how the higher you go up the tree, the more you begin to show your age. But know that underneath you, there is a vibrant forest floor full of life and new beginnings ready to create something new long after you're gone.
I swear I channeled a little bit of Bob Ross in that statement above, your paintings speak without you even knowing it. And that's what I hope you want, you want your paintings—much like Bob Ross—to convey a story with happy little clouds and small little things growing underneath their foots.
I want to share with you a Youtube video that really changed my life when I discovered it back in 2016. It resonates a lot with me now, and I hope it speaks to you, too. I hope you continue to paint, I hope you discover more about the pigments that excite you, I hope you never stop learning. In the famous words of Bob Ross, all you have to do, is practice. And if it makes you happy, all the more better.

Okie dokie. If you say so. :)
I'm surprised none of you have given the reason why it's important to draw inspiration from other styles of art or, to learn the fundamentals of drawing things correctly before exaggerating their features as well as the importance of practice and patience.
It's like you're trying to keep a secret away from other artists who are younger than you...from getting better than you? You're not trying to gatekeep any secrets from other artists, are you kiddos?

You need to find balance: if you pressure yourself too much, you're setting yourself up for failure. But if you're too gentle, you won't progress.

Also, the goals needs to be set globally: if getting married and having kids feels much more satisfying than drawing, perhaps you'd be better focusing on this first, and later come back to drawing, instead of doing a half-baked job at both, or of focusing on drawing.

Some people struggle with art, but that's because they have a shitty depressive life, eat garbage, never exercise, have limited social contacts. As Jordan Peterson puts it, start by cleaning your room.

Thank you for the kind words, anon. I found that people really are interested in the inner life, and you can present it in a way that others will cherish, because they have the same feelings. Stickers and porn and advertising just doesn't cut it, it's not serious, while images can be so, so hard. So now I'm an extremist on behalf of myself, maybe because my time is limited. Artists should be dramatic and passionate, and why not deathly serious? Let's try it.

Excellent shading. You've got a bright future ahead of you, anon. If you want really dark shadows, try compressed charcoal pencils. But I'm sure you already know that, I hope.

Nah as cool as it would be I'm just a hobbyist for now. Maybe one day. Most of my work is pretty similar though.

This one here is a WIP of something I'm working on but it needs to be properly coloured and stuff

That WIP is even closer to what I need, so now I INSIST. I'd be willing to throw you 100-150$, but I understand if you don't really want the stress of doing commissions (or if I'm lowballing here, in which case it can also be discussed). If you want to discuss it at least, my discord is srtshooter#7206. Ty!
