This. I fucked up major when it came to my ref. Maybe because I thought he would be more confident and cocky but each matchup I just saw that it would scare him. Gotta put down your Ideas and shit or people will take what they are given and run with it and you know what I'm fine with that as it's a little self punishment and it could even give you ideas on how to expand the character

Amy and Scrimblos were adorable in all their entries, I'm genuinely looking forward to this matchup.

And I've only posted anything related to "crying" a few times during the entire tournament. And it was mostly related to how badly this entire thing is run, which I'd be more than happy to list out all my actually criticisms of the entire tournament but I was going to wait until its actually over before doing so. Which is again, what this is.
A bad matchup can be dealt with, being asked and then ignored is just twice as annoying.

But I like scrimlo for what it is, more so than the other rounds, I just didn't want of fight them because its incompatible with anything I wanted to do and that makes it annoying to deal with now.

Most my OCs are either SOL, Romance, or Horror themed. None of which really particularly lend themselves well to battles without really being a stretch of their character.

Battles can still be done by competitive themed OCs, but it limits the potential for anyone that doesn't fall in that category, and there's no reason not to have the theme vague enough to cover all archetypes.

I cannot disagree with a single thing you posted. It really does feel like this is all just for GM to goon to his own ego with all the things that managed to slip under the cracks, and all I've seen since the end of the first round was flawed logic, loopholes, and straight up cheating. Group members voting only for themselves and each other, meanwhile the outsiders who have no stakes on who wins and loses in a specific matchup abstain from actually voting because they can't be bothered to think for more than five seconds on which comic they enjoyed more. There should have been a clause that makes this go the other way around so that nobody is allowed to vote for/against their own group, avoiding all that underhanded bullshit and the drama that would follow right after, but the GM just doesn't fucking care. There's no quality assurance, no preventive measures, no improvements on certain things, nothing. Just ruthless, petty squabbling between others to quit the game or to quit complaining that some emotionally stunted adults won't stop voting for themselves with zero consideration for their opponent.

Anything of importance should be explained in the rules for this tournament both in case things change, and for the sake of people that don't want to read an old thread of irrelevant characters.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think it peaked near the beginning with the drinking competition, but that's more how I liked it more than a vice on the rest. It wasn't anything groundbreaking, but it was cute. More importantly, though, it advertised both what Carolyn and Balkari were all about in a way that felt mostly natural (the "drunken" exposition was a bit unneeded, but, eh, we all had those nights where we'd get trashed and do something like spend a solid hour explaining the complete lore of the mainline Megaman games, so I can forgive it). It was a fun read.
That's not to say that there weren't some fun reads/looks in the other entries. In /crab/ 1, GM created an OC to take the place of a participant who dropped out: Bodycount. The outcome of the round was decided by a literal coinflip, and Bodycount won each round, giving it a ominous reputation.

Because Scrimblos and Turtloli submitted their entry LATE, they are pursued by Bodycount. They meet the luckiest crab, Fernando, who challenges Bodycount to a coinflip duel to protect Scrimblos & Turtloli.
Luckiest crab Fernando lost, Bodycount's perfect track record remains unbroken (now a 4-0). Nathan, who had a dead wish, decided to die instead of Fernando, but they'll probably find a bullshit way to revive him anyway.

If the GM or anyone cared about characters personalities he’d of read them there or just sent a quick DM if he felt it was lacking, or made a separate channel to request people put a tldr of their backstories and personalities. Since the vast majority of people did not post their entire backstory on the ref channel, this is a pointless target to bring up.
If anything this is why it shouldn’t be on the GM to pick opponents because it’s unreasonable to know every OC that we’ll, and as a result he’s just always going to favor his friends and everyone else is feeling left out.

And like I said in my critique, the prompts and themes as well as opponents consistently fail to allow for us to properly use our characters. The vast majority of everyone’s comics fail to actually do anything to explain their OCs since most of them just devolved into randumb OOC humor.

I’m just criticizing the tournament and how badly it’s been run which results in the entire thing feeling like a forced mess of nonsense when it could have been a fun idea. Over half of the artists here are not affiliated with /hyw/.
What you get is that there is much more of an initiative to create an own /crab/ culture rather than force the majority to assimilate to /hyw/ standards, which was easy due to the fact /crab/ is supposed to be somewhat disconnected from /hyw/.

As an outsider it was admittedly very jarring at first and certain events certainly didn't help but as time went on and I continued to make an effort, I ended up having a pretty good time!
It's a community event and you can't really expect people to care about you or your character when you don't even put in the time to show up and interact.
Is it a popularity contest? To an extent, sure lol, but that's just life! It's not going to stop me from creating the content I want to make because I love what what I do even without all the outside validation, hell, even DESPITE all the vitriol that gets thrown at my team every time we post an entry. I will HAPPILY continue to pull the sleepless nights despite whatever outcome we get because I just adore both my team and our characters that much.

I'm sorry you couldn't make the best of it even with the flaws of this tournament, but this situation has been handled horribly and do I hope that you can change the way you handle these issues in the future as antagonizing other artists via shit-talking their art/OCs is really not the way to fix any of the issues you're having.
I also didn't get a character I asked for, but that's not going to stop me from doing my best in trying to create an entry that I can look back on and be proud of. Because there will ALWAYS be a way to create kino so long as you are willing to look for it.
