Not another way. I mean "in addition". You're good on construction, but you're no good at proportions or being accurate. If I gave you a drawing to copy, you couldn't copy it properly. And that's a really important part of learning to draw from imagination, well. It's a mistake I made, because Vilppu told me to not copy references. Huge mistake.

Being able to draw accurately is the first step to skill in drawing from imagination. If you can't read, you can't write.

you do realize copying manga references 1:1 won't help you drawing from imagination don't you

if you want to draw "accurately" you might as well trace it instead of measuring things with whatever other tool you can come up with

This is why construction fails miserably. Go study how other artists draw things and copy that. Keep drawing until it looks right. Drawing is not engineering. It is the medium of illusion. Your only job is to trick people into accepting what’s on the page. It doesn’t have to be correct like a math solution. It just has to look right.

yes but the principles of engineering principles in general mean the "rules and ideas that have to be kept in mind when solving an engineering problem" and engineering problems are problems that can be solved through analysis but that's fucking vague. but the engineering method is one of design so art isn't engineering yes but the rules of engineering can be applied when creating art to create a quality piece. in the step by step process of Idea, Concept, Planning, Design, Development, and launch. Art is not exactly one that requires the engineering method but it improves it by organizing the process of creating it, far more intuitive than doodling on a canvas until an inspiration comes up no?

Art isn't intellectual. Art is feeling. You draw with your soul.

>> No.6642842

>>6642831
what's the point of a feeling you can't express properly? in this case visually. The feeling itself is the first step of the engineering method which is Idea and the rest goes with the goal of expressing it in visual language. I didn't say that art is intellectual but what I did say was that engineering as a process streamlines and improves artists and you seem to over simplify with
>you draw with your soul
you feel with your soul(Idea), you visualize that feeling with your mind (concept), you plan it with construction, Design and develop the piece within the Sketching process and well once you're done, there's your launch. And that's why I am still correct for finding a middle ground between those 2 anons that art is not engineering but the process of making a piece of art can be improved with engineering

I wonder why there is such an anti-construction sentiment on this board
Construction is a great technique, it is needed for industrial design and mechanical objects as well as architecture. I'd much rather have it than not. Is it perhaps because it's difficult to apply to the human figure?

Wrong. Advice like this is no more than a very pleasant sounding, but empty, platitude. No amount of feeling or soul let me be able to construct things from imagination and rotate and move them around. Learning to draw a box using my intellect did. Then I learned to draw that box by intuition, with my feeling.
Steven Zapata put it best in his video Why It's Important To Get Good At Drawing- you learn all the technical skill and knowledge, only to let it sink down into the depths of your subconscious, never to return.
Not to mention that the intellectual side of art is mentally stimulating and exciting, you would be doing yourself a disservice to ignore it.

>> No.6643135

>>6643065
intuition is not feeling. the feeling is the image you want to convey. you feel like making a happy piece or a sad one? what pose? expression? mood? that are best to communicate whats in your head. personal experiences that can't be taught... kinda... it can be taught through impressionism. Picking colors based on what they feel rather than how they appear. the feeling is "why did you drew it?" the intelect is "how did you drew it?". art is both feeling and intellectual

Teal is using a circle because it’s equidistant to the center of the head, so when you lower the jaw it stays in proportion to how it attaches to the upper skull.

It’s not, you’re right, but when throwing a punch people tend to use their non punching arm to line up the shot, and keep the palm facing down. That’s why I said the redraw misses the point of the original.
