Steve Martin was real infamous back in the day. He was always criticized from making the “fandom” look bad with the amount of porn he drew. He is still active doing what he’s been doing best since the 70s. Drawing lewded cartoon characters animals.

Jim Groat, a founding father of early furry conventions. He used to run a couple and contribute to furry comics and magazines. Goes by Rabbi Tom these days on furaffinity where you can find him mostly just posting smut. There is a real dumb kiwi farms thread about him showing how much of a loser he is. Imagine missing out on your first sons birth to attend a furry convention.

Steve Gallacci made a name for himself publishing furry comics that had strong mature story telling. Looks like all he does these days is post zootopia inspired porn.

You also got people like Doug Winger who passed away in 2015. Although he had a successful career outside of “furry fandom” if you look up his name most of the stuff that will come up is furry futa type shit going back to the late 80s. That’s his legacy.

I draw for a niche fandom and most of the competition are women and men below age 25. They are attention whores, complain no one comments on their drawings, hype the fuck out of their upcoming illustration only because it "took them a lot of time" then proceed to complaint when it doesn't get enough likes. I'm about to turn 30, and being a freelance artist is also better than most jobs in my third world country. I am happy to be drawing and I don't pay attention to numbers because I can open commissions and fill all slots. These fellas can never compete against me, no matter what. And that makes me happy. As you get older you realize you're just consciousness embodied in a meat sack. Some of the same things still interest you. Other interests develop and evolve with experience. Your art inherently reflects this.
It's informative to learn from artists whose work evolved with age, like Crumb and Tezuka. Tezuka tackled more mature subject matter as he got older. Crumb's early work is borderline-coomer, but later in life he tackled more literary subject matter and philosophical themes in his sketchbooks.
