IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.

Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the Drawthread with fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS using one of the following methods:

>1. screenshot the image and post that instead

>2. change camera capture settings to something smaller

>3. send to computer and resize in MSPaint

READ THE STICKY: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Looking good bro. Watch your proportions a lot more carefully. Pay attention to the widths of the forms, especially at the ankles. Look clearly at the distance between the head and the ribs, the ribs and the hips, etc.

>> No.6629512

>>6629477
Yes the head counts. Usually you want to at least get the three major masses down (head, rib-cage and pelvis). You don't need to detail it if you are doing shorter figure drawings. It helps with proportions, gesture, action, composition etc. And it's useful to practice since you'll probably want to include heads in your finished drawings too.

I don't know much about Proko, he's probably fine.
But Drawabox is the ultimate crab horseshit. You spend a large amount of time drawing lines, rectangles, and ellipses where he spergs out about what supplies you are "allowed" to use, before being told do draw 250 boxes, in a time consuming fashion. I can personally attest that I got to about box number 110 before I got so burnt out I stopped drawing for a good 6 months.
Am I better for what I completed of DaB? Marginally, not nearly as much improvement as I would've gotten from 6 months of just drawing.

also since we are in BEG: you probably want books about figure drawing (which are more suitable for begs trying to breach into INT, since they are dealing with construction and simplified figures) rather than the full blown anatomy books which are honestly too detailed and many artists got pro without any knowledge from them. anatomy is optional

As nice and polished and pretty as this, the composition so rough, look at the balance of having all those details I the upper 2rds and then basically dead space underneath by comaprsion, further disconnected from the rest of the illustration by the diagonal void running through it that is so prominent yet leads the eye no nowhere. That said I think just by expanding it out so it could be used as a desktop back group by just adding more of the star back ground and position the fae so they are positioned like this would help the eye to the focal point

Chicken scratching is bad because you can't tell which lines is the real one in the mess of lines. When done properly, restating the line makes it clear. You restate the line with more pressure so it is thicker and/or darker so it's obvious which line is correct.

>>6630479
yeah. you are leveling up your observation so you can see the mistakes in your work easier. this is the hidden curse of drawing: you will rarely ever be pleased by your own creations. that is why its important to PYW: if others are liking it, you are on right path even if you think its trash.

perspective is mostly about drawing simple geometrical shapes like boxes and cylinders correctly in perspective and in proportion to the others. majority of figure drawing books simplify human figure into boxes and cylinders. if your book doesnt do that, try different / easier one. loomis, hogarth, bridgman, vilppu, force series, morpho series, tomfox...
>>6630423
i heavily recommend to copy the drawings from the books you are studying. especially for the perspective made hard book. while you will be copying it you will have time and practice in applying the very principle it talks about. when you are trying to copy X wall just look at the line, the angle and then try to find its vanishing point and notice how it is on the eye level / horizon.

And i am not fan of blurring her feet. Her feet are at same distance from viewer as rest of her body, blurring them doesnt make sense. But other than these nitpicks it is really cool and everything. The water drop is pure render orgasm!

I am a permaint after like 3 years of grinding and unironically my first month paintings have made more people happy than anything I can do now. Sure I'm technically good but making anything worthwhile is a struggle because my brain is bogged down with nitpicky shit and I end up in OCD thoughtloops like grinding anatomy for no specific reason. Or having flashbacks to someone shitting on my art and trying to fix that issue (e.g. grinding hands because someone called a hand of mine bad)

I don't know what advice to give you because I still have not found a solution. It temporarily got better after I had an accident and almost died, and while I was in the ambulance I realized that I've been good enough for a very long while now but the low confidence, "not good enough to make the thing" feelings came back like a week later. I did make some good drawings after coming home from the hospital but eventually the /ic/ brainworms started messing with me again and now I'm back to just brainless grinding.

Really the only thing I can provide you with is an example of what you're in for if you don't start being confident in your work. Maybe you are less mentally ill than me and it won't be as bad, but not being confident in your art can make your life really shitty because the feeling doesn't really get better even if you improve at drawing.

I got some good feedback earlier RE: Perspective Made Easy (Hard). I redid some exercises and wrote this in my sketchbook as an observation/lesson learned: "observe and define your eyeline, then imagine and place vanishing points beyond your picture plane. if you define the vanishing points within your picture plane, you will deform your object(s), therefore at least ONE vanishing point should be defined as off-page. to achieve this without necessarily defining the vanishing point(s) in a visible way (meaning you have an actual point that you draw to) simply adhere to your eyeline and ensure all the lines that make up an object follow the rules of perspective (meaning they all meet at the eyeline and therefore appear to converge)." I know I'm just rewording what Norling wrote but that's a key part of understanding imo. Is this explanation close to what I should take away or do I need to try again?

I don't know precisely, but since you seem to have spent a good deal of time with stylization, probably you should at least dip your toes on realism. You should make a decision about the angle of the shot (low vs level). Think about what expression you want the drawing to communicate, your references give off different vibes. Some feel like the viewer is being challenged, some feel like execution.
After you've made a decision try to dissect and understand the reference pose. Like how the body parts are oriented and where the foreshortened sword tip is.

i have trouble orienting the forms of the figure
the background has incoherent perspective, hard to establish where the eye level is. ex: we can see the bottom of the car, so eye must be very close to the ground right? all together it confuses the scale of the girl

agree with the other anon it would probably help you to read about perspective rules, then you can start problem-solving things like how the car should be drawn for a cohesive perspective. but keep it up anon

I think it's partially just an issue of anime. Because of her disproportionately large head, you can't use it for such landmarks. If her elbows reached to the top of her head or beyond, they'd also reach down to her pelvis and she'd be a knuckledragger. Nearest I can tell she seems like 6 heads tall.
My arms are a bit on the short side and the inside of my elbow seems very close to just reaching the top of my head, not above.

I haven't made the background yet, but how do I improve using this cartoony style? I'm pretty new to digital art.

Should I go with a lineless approach or colored lines or stick with black outlines?

I know the colors I see on the tablet are different than my other monitor

Someone has an idea how to fill this part? I'm practicing inking and I have a hard time with the shadows of this abdomen. I don't want to fill it with pure black because looks lazy and ignores the shadow gradation but I don't know how to fill. I'm trying to go with a comic like inking style as an started, but have no problem with other approaches as I'm finding my way of inking.
Also I don't want to use grays, just black and white like a pen.

Because your work kinda sucks bro and it feels bad to shit on it unprompted. Next time ask for brutal opinions and you'll get them. Whether you'll do something with them is another thing, however.

This.
Although, some newspaper might adapt this style for a one-panel comic at its last page of the newspaper for boomers.
