Its like it has beg parts and int parts. I like the lines and the face area, everything outside it seems low effort. Id say int though I really like those lines man. And the likeness of that chink person is probably pretty good too I can feel it.

>>6626785
Mid beg, if by chance you want to draw cartoons stay the fuck away from these diagram like, measured "studies". Better off doing more liberal sketches using your eye. I mean sure, maybe this is useful in the very beginning, just dont be surprised if your imagination stuff doesnt match up to this. Lines are also shaky but headed in a good direction.

>>6626823
Int, nice shapemaxxing, mirin lines. Some things I noticed were off: the hand to our left is drawn cheaply, and the perspective on the green neckplate thing is a bit too intense for this angle. It also creates a tangent with the bottom of the skull so it looks weird. The hand is bottlenecking your level the most, the rest are nitpick details.

>>6626853
Low int, you have enough to get your ideas across and grab attention. I dont have much to say, the style is throwing off my focus, it really allows mistakes to hide and Im generally not a fan of these types of styles.

>>6626859
No idea, its very arts and craftsy.Your skills are probably in the beg range even though this looks kind of decent from afar. The heart is what gives me beg vibes the most, seems like youre uncomfortable with forms, line confidence and hatching

>>6626861
Ill comment on the body. Beg but I think you have an eye for whats important in a female body so you might be making something passable not to far from now. If you didnt hide hands and arms and didnt troll with the face maybe youd score higher.

>>6626892
I heard you sell these and yeah they look marketable, good job. Solid int. I think everything does its job pretty well, I dont feel like I can give useful crit from my level.

it's nice to have your hardwork be acknowledged idk if thats dick comparing, also, it can provide a useful reality check.

now that I think about it, can you really ever stop comparing your art/skill? if your goal is to improve, I imagine somewhere along the way you will have to compare your stuff to the kind of stuff youd like to be making for direction.

It's also interesting to see what a stranger will say when they are anonymous, you dont see communities like that anywhere else these days, really, especially one as big and niche as ic.

I personally think you are at the level where taking a deeper dive into your fundies will work wonders for you. Try out a perspective course or do a deep dive with anatomy, maybe even color and light. Go in with intention of applying what you learned very shortly afterward. If you aren't already, make sure you are figure drawing no less than 4 days a week. That's all on top of what you already do. Good luck on your journey man.

I'm actually entering art school next month and I got an interview regarding my portfolio (Pretty much what I already showed here, more or less)
They said

>Anon, you got a pretty defined style, we expect students to explore new horizons and try new styles on our class, you are ok with this, right?

Which is a polite way of asking me not to draw anime during the course, I guess, which is totally ok with me!
So, I'm using this experience to study fundies. I will try some courses while I'm at it, thank you for your suggestions, kind anon

My "standard" average effort piece I can do in around 20-30 minutes looks like this (I still kinda suck with poses and my art isn't as detailed as I want it to be, but my sense of form and lines are decent enough). My goal for now is to reach mid-/int/ as the fastest rate I can and improve detail in my art alongside getting better at poses, intuitive perspective and general draftmanship alongside maybe a full switch to digital.

westerners tend to overlook that and end up with big eyes with western eye spacing (smaller eyes = shorter distance) which looks bad

Thanks for the compliments Anons, I appreciate it. I've got a twitter I hardly use anymore but post onto sometime. It's OneWholeRaccoon for anyone interested. To answer why I come here; every online art community is rather similar to each other. Some draw more than others or they don't. The only time you'll get feedback worth your time is if the other person knows what they're talking about, which is a minority of people. I like ic despite all the doomposting and ai threads. I mostly come here to give some advice the odd time or two. It's not much harm done to me since I'm at the point where I think I can make improvements on my own by putting in some elbow grease.

>>6629247
high beg/low int. I think If you work on your making your shapes a bit more interesting in the background and work on making the values in your composition pop, you'll have something nice on your hands. Try studying some artist you like who's compositions you respond to at glance. for me it's Mead Schaeffer
>>6629279
low int/mid int. I can tell you have a good grasp of shapes and rhythm. The lighting looks good too. It's just a bit hard for me to assess something this rough. I think you can be a bit more decisive with the shapes in the lower and middle portions of the face. It'd be nice if you resolved the area with the feet. Overall everything but the hair feels appealing to look at.
>>6629460
high int/adv. The only real problem with this one is that the composition has a problem for me. Specifically I keep coming back to her belly button rather than her face or hands since it's the one of the higher contrast areas. It's rather distracting. I keep pausing at it when I go down the figure and I linger. Also her ankles and feet are a bit flat. Overall very good.

I just did lol.

On the subject of improving learn to measure and observe. If there is an object that has a ratio of 2:1 in front of you and you record it on paper as 3:1, you can see how the drawing has already fallen apart right? observing visual proportions is critical in drawing well. You wouldn't be able to draw a sphere without understanding and seeing it is equal on all sides. The best thing to do is get a teacher or mentor If you want to improve at a faster rate. Ideally they'll give you the right set of knowledge and tools to understand things on your own. Again having the right knowledge makes things easier. If you try understanding reflected light too early but you don't understand how to separate light from shadow, you're only going to confuse yourself. Start simpler and make sure it is right, then add complexity onto to it. I couldn't paint this sphere for instance without some prerequisites of form and light. If I didn't understand and execute grayscale well the color would be obsolete.

I'm just not much of a typer, I'm more of a speaker. Of course figure drawing is important and rhythm as well as a bunch of still lifes. But not a lot of people know how to observe accurately, which is why there drawings come out the way they do. Even worse is when you're not actually looking at the subject you're drawing like I did throughout highschool. If you can't see an angle from the model and compare what you put down to paper, it doesn't matter how much you draw, you can't correct yourself because you can't see. Pic related is a simple exercise in proportion if you're interested. 1.00 is the reference point for every other measurement you make, in this case it's the height of the cube.

Most approaches also tend to be rooted in the exact same stuff. I mostly use a combination of shape turned into forms and use whatever tools I can to elaborate. When figure drawing I start with the head or rib cage and build from there. None of it matters if you don't learn how to see proportional relationships tho. I'd also advise taking time when figure drawing. If you can't do it in 2 minutes, you might need more time. Figure drawing isn't fast at first, like all things it's slow and methodical. You're analyzing the figure by filtering it through forms and rhythms, but those need to be supported by accurate observation. Again I never said that measuring was all that I was doing, I said it was critical. The way I study figures isn't much different from anybody else that's talked about the subject. I'd say much like the dedicated proportional exercise I ended up posting, you want to isolate your studies to one single concept. Keep it simple. Eventually you can juggle more.

>> No.6629651

>>6629630
how would being incapable of seeing accurately and learning that skill not be important in a discussion about improving? It's practically half the battle. What exactly do you want to improve? If you ask broadly I will answer just as broad. Can you be a bit more specific about a subject you'd like to improve on? That way there's a bit more of a focus on where to start a conversation centered around improving. Cause all I can do is provide exercise where we are now and detail there purpose

nigger, look at the ones that actually are supposed to be cute and/or are humans. Rapunzel's eyes are much better spaced than whatever you're doing so she looks super hot, Ghibli style eyes are even smaller and father placed apart than typical anime, and bambi is an animal with eyes more or less an eye and a half apart. Power puff girls and Sonic dont look horrendous because they extremely cartoony and not really rendered, unlike all the art you posted (cell shaded, but still following good color lighting logic).
Even if you decided to do ignore this (which you shouldn't because 90 percent of what normies like in cartoons is the face), you still have those fundamental problems in your figure drawings that you still haven't addressed. I remember when I gave you crit for the gesture one time, but you still make the same issues of your posing being awkward still

One thing I've been up to lately is drawing references from memory after studying them. found it to be great for improving visual library. The process for this went from breaking down how another artist separates the forms, to applying those forms to reference than recalling those forms in the same position. In order to know how much information you retained, you must recall the information. It's not much different from memorizing a speech or a fact. You read it, then without the paper you try to remember it. This is how I go about building a visual library for instance.

Yeah you're right. I ended up doing it in about 2 or so minutes and rushed the angles through. I mostly did it right then and there to make a point and hopefully show a useful exercise you only really need to do once to get an idea of what it is you're trying to see in your head when drawing. You can do it with fractions too or better yet use plumb lines. God plumb lines are great. It's mostly to get the point across that you need to approximate/estimate things and relate them to each other. Is this line smaller, bigger or the same to that one? Is this line horizontal or vertical, if not then how much do they deviate? Surprisingly I thought I didn't get that front most corner down far enough but I ended flubbing the first angle from the corner then started inventing the others.

>>6630255
For the most part it will apply to anything. Study and understand why the artist applies the things they do, apply thing from artist to reference, you can trace on top of it so you know that you're applying appropriately. I did this with legs since the knees are complicated. Apply again with reference without tracing. After finishing a reference that you've done without tracing, draw that from memory. Rinse and repeat. The last two parts are going to be the quantity practice portion of this. You've figured out how to do the thing you just need to become efficient and form those neural pathways. But you want to make sure that you're doing the analyzing correctly. So either you get someone to tell you before you do the quantity practice or you're fending for yourself.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ST9lPQhnQPY&t=451s&ab_channel=LoveLifeDrawing

>>6630343
I say do it once with plumb lines and angles, maybe at most all you need to do is say that what you're comparing to is whether it's bigger, smaller or even. I also suggest you make the decision before checking with your pencil, that way you correct the mistake and you see where you went wrong.

I get these spergy bursts to half draw something, hate where it’s going, give up and draw nothing for like a month, then try again and repeat the process. I bought Fun with a Pencil and How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way, and… I don’t fucking know man, I can’t pull myself together on weekdays to do much but get ready for wagieshit, and I’ve got this pilgrimage in the fall I’m trying to get more walking in for and that takes up the weekends so

We just keep doing this cycle of

*runs into the slightest besmirch of ego despite understanding I haven’t the skills down*
>I’ll do art when I’m feeling better
*three weeks pass*
>I want to art
etc

I can’t just focus on it unless it’s massaging the autistic fics in my head, and then if it’s not matching what I picture it just hurts to work on, and I start hating myself more than the art.

I want to art, don’t I? I think I do but I can’t fucking get my shit together to focus and practice or even keep consistent, I just

Surf 4chan or dance around my apartment imagining the animations I never draw set to songs I like

Oh yeah I have ADHD too, that’s part of it too

Not like ‘ooh a tiktok made me self-diagnose’ I mean like I got that diagnosis in the 90s and then some fucking kike in high school convinced me meds were death and I proceeded to fuck up my college gpa over going cold turkey on all my meds

I mean I probably didn’t need four of them to juggle symptoms but the 5mgx2 methylphenidates I take make sure I eat food consistently so

It’s probably real.

Int, love the atmosphere and graphic style but it does flatten things. If you could get the values organized really clearly to give a sense of depth I think it'd help it pop.
>>6633042
Beg, this is really clean but there's some issues with proportions and how you're handling lighting. Close to the next level, though.
>>6634098
Int, your values and brushwork are kind of mushy, but this is still a fine portrait and actually the muddy tones of the face capture a lot of the subject's personality.
>>6634108
Beg, proportions aren't too bad, keep practicing your linework.
>>6634127
Int, but it's a little hard to tell from this piece. Inventive subject, be careful if you're rendering just by smudging stuff all over.

I have a question. Is there a minimum requirement of skill you need to get first before you judge people? I'm like beg-mid at most so I don't know if I can really criticize well because of my own lack of skills and knowledge.

If you have my main account, I have a tumblr for extra doodles as my pinned comment.

I think the deactivated accounts get deleted after a certain time period, which I'm sure we are well beyond now. I will look into it. Also I did archive the stuff I did for that account, so I could possibly upload it elsewhere.

Side note, I'm happy to hear that you liked what I did. Thought I was just being annoying with the art spamming/schizoposting and whatnot. Thank you.

I like it, I love the way you handle the hair. I'd try to show more of the structural features, such as the cygomatic (the cheek bone), the different planes of the forehead, the ball of the chin. You could show the skin folds that go from the wings of the nose down to almost the mouth, and the skin folds that cut across the corners of the mouth. Also look into drawing a more realistic set of lips. But again, good work!

I'm always too late for these things
Tried to get a mix of drawings in here - but I'm honestly stuck at

Though I've recently started to get them to interact with things, like eating a burger or holding objects

it looks good, but there is a ton of anatomy errors,
The hand especially is fucked

And some of the perspective seems warms
>>6654263
Clear skill here, but looks really unappealing - things like drawing every tooth - and no idea what is happening to the hands and head + neck situation
The gun looks rad though

Colours and line work is really appealing even if I don't care for the subject matter
very SOULful

looks gross - nose too big, ear too big, no back of head etc.

looks like you are hiding imperfections behind style, but the style is cool and fun - bonus points for trad, I like it

/beg/ Looks like a kids drawing of what their dad is - muscle formations look terrible - but you tried and that counts for something

>>6648546
imperfections and squidward nose aside - not bad, keep working at it, but again bonus points for trad
>>6647579
/beg/ proprotions seem off, but not so off that it's uncanny, but the subject matter is boring and dull and the colours look dull and muddy

as someone who does a lot of commission work I have to tell you that there are two areas in a picture that actually matter to the client: hands and eyes. Everything else can be turbo fucked but if you have good hands and eyes people will pay top dollar. Your hand needs serious work. The eyes are just meh. You have some nice inking, but tighten it up on the hands and eyes and you cuold make some money.
