I think I'm genuinely losing the soul of the earlier works with the rough lineart and awkward rendering. I'm still drawing boring, face-on poses, my style is still very inconsistent and so's the finished quality of what I make. But I can draw hands a little better and some rendering gains have been made

I started drawing in the middle of 2019. I was, obviously, a beginner at the time. Around the same time, my two older brothers also took up drawing alongside me.

We had dreams of making a manga or a comic, like any other 18-year-old that's into the anime world.

So, we drew and drew, until we got to a decent level. My 2nd older brother was the best, and my 1st older brother was the second best. I, naturally, was the worst out of us three.

I envied my brothers because of their profound skills, and I wanted to get better than them. So I observed. And it wasn't a natural observation. It was- enigmatic. I stared at people walking by, viewing how the bones and muscles shifted, and the clothing fabrics twisted and turned.

You probably won't even believe this, and that’s to be expected, but I never even had to draw it down when I saw it. I never had to do a life drawing or a still drawing.

I could see things, and then days later, I could recall them with perfect accuracy. I just thought it was normal.

But it turns out, I had a photographic memory. I didn't know this at the time, but even so, it helped me with my art journey.

So naturally, I quickly got better. In just a couple of weeks, I got better at art than my brothers ever were. I never showed my art to them, though. In fear of them resenting me, or envying me.

Usually, someone envying you would be a good thing, but not for me. I hate when people look up to me. I genuinely fucking hate it. And even worse, as they started to find out my true skills, they started to ask me, "Bro, teach me", or "How did you get so good? ''.

I appreciate these comments, but their kindness and envy were futile. I could go into it deeper, but to put it short: I didn't care.

My ego was too big at the time, so I subconsciously resented them. Even outside of art, I started to look down on people. I thought that since I was talented, I was that motherfucker. That I was the best motherfucker the world had ever seen.

Over the years, I moved my art style from painting and rendering, to something more line orientated. I realised that my goal in life is to make comicbooks. As I got exponentially better at art, I started to push the people around me- the people that I cared about away. Even with college, I didn't care about my studies. I just… drew.

It got to a point where I would look at professional artists' works, and start critiquing them as I knew better. It's not like I couldn't, it's just that I had no right to.

Fast forward to 2023, April 19th. I am 22 years old, and my thoughts toward people have not changed.

I simply do not care about anyone or anything, except my art. Sometimes I even wish everyone around me, even my family, would just- go away.

I had a way of knowing what people would say and do. Even though I spend most of my time alone, I could read and manipulate someone with ease. It turns out, through my countless hours of observation, I had studied people not just on a physical level but on an emotional and psychological level as well.

And yes, I’ve made money off of my art. I won't disclose this information here, but to put it briefly, I'm making twice as much money than most doctors do. I have also gotten plenty of job offers from several game and development studios.

I’ve declined every single one of them. Why? I could not tell you.

Maybe, it's not that I don't understand people, but maybe it's because I hate them. Maybe it's because I hate everyone and everything around me. Sure, I can put on a fake smile and persona, and act like everything is fine. But deep down, I hold so much resentment and malice towards everything.

It's not my parent's fault, nor my brothers. It's just… me.

No one did anything to me, and I know I'm a terrible fucking human being.

But at least, I can share my life story with at least one person. You may not get the point of why I wrote this, but to put it bluntly: I don't want you to end up like me.

Don't form an ego. Don't resent envy. Embrace your passion.

Don't lose your soul, as I have.

I don't usually get comments but I do occasionally get feedback along that lines, mainly about how masculine my girls are and what their faces looks. Although I think appeal is a pretty subjective thing, I felt one can make a case as to the type of audience that I intended to appeal to and the way I draw these characters or my art style doesn't contribute to it. How do you end up losing charm in your art even when you get better at drawing

I thought I had this specific problem but I notice most people go through it, but I don't know why it happens?
Like a lot of my old art is wacky and incorrect, but the idea behind it, the colors, the meaning, I feel like it has a little bit charm, to me at least. These days I am better at anatomy and coloring but I hate my art after a day of posting it. It doesn't make me feel anything at all.

A while in the past I did lose myself to coomer art and drawing for views and likes and also adopted shitty rendering techniques, which may be why too but idk. Anyone else going through this have any thoughts?

I think they're cool, it reminds me a lot of Capcom fighting game art in how it all feels very volumetrically solid and even girly characters with a slight build are still drawn as robust. I think following that cue if the facial features themselves were overall smaller it'd look better balanced, but like you said appeal is subjective. As it is now it certainly doesn't look "wrong" or out of place, which is all that matters.

thanks! I am actually a big fan of capcom stuff, as well as artist like masahiko nakahira, although his later work got a little whacky in terms of anatomy. His most recently work looks completely different than his previous work until Ryu Final, its better and more constrained, but its very generic pretty girl art style. I mean it's the same like tracing a model in blender, so sadly (or gladly) you can spot it, but I wonder how annoying it will become once people will accept Ai usage amongst art
