Birdgman will burn you out as a beginner. To learn figure drawing I recommend learning from Michael Hampton's book. He also has a CGMA course and a YT. Start with minimum 5 minute poses, don't do 30s gestures as a beg, it is too advanced. Learn gesture in concept and practice but don't force yourself to do quick poses if you suck dick even drawing slowly.

Perspective is something that is theoretically easy but complex, very time consuming if you're doing urban landscapes bc of the amount of detail you have to keep track of, even for an interior shot of a room. Read a book called Perspective Made Easy and with those principles you should start practicing by drawing from life, your room, what's outside your window, and from photos too. If you're still insecure, try Framed Perspective by Marcos Mateu-Mestre and Dongho Kim's Space Drawing Perspective book. David Finch videos are pretty good on this, but I sincerely suggest to just draw a lot so you can freehand perspective and not die making a billion guide lines (digital software rulers help but ugh you know). Learn it with the goal of it being second nature. After all, everything is in perspective at all times. Kim Jung Gi got his skills in part from imagining anything he saw as if put in a box, that way he visualized where the horizon line and vanishing points were, so he could place the objects correctly in space.

The best course I recommend for a beginner is Dynamic Sketching by Peter Han. This will rewire your brain into learning how to increase your visual library and understand space and freehand perspective. Extremely useful in order to draw anything you'd ever want to draw.

For digital painting, Med's Map is great. For anatomy, pick whatever book and go wild. Recs is Anatomy for Sculptor's and Proko's videos so you get an easier introduction to quite a big topic. Hampton's book has enough anatomy desu, don't get lost studying it. Try to keep all your fundies at around the same level.

For Peter Han, avoid grind. Do those first 4-ish weeks exercises as warm-ups. Those line reps, ellipses, blobby organic shapes with cross contours and shadows, freehand boxes in perspective, etc. Those should be little warmups to implement before you start studying or drawing. Don't grind 20 pages of them. Doing an intensive of the straight and curve lines reps did improve my linework in a matter of days, but everything else should be chill.

Then, just draw. What I mean is, do the piece you want to do and sketch it out. Let's imagine for whatever reason it's a wedding picture. Use Han's methods to study the elements you need for the picture. The flowers fot the bouquet, the jewelry, maybe they have a recently married car, or white doves, etc. Point is: have a goal. The way you retain things is by doing them with a purpose.

"I wanna study plants" is super broad. But, if you're drawing an action scene in the jungle, focusing on, let's say, 10 tropical plant species and studying them will be helpful and you'll retain that knowledge and muscle memory because you are actually applying it practically. You'll have something specific and you'll be able to create better compositions.

Don't grind shit unless you're an insane asian FZD student, it will fry your brain. Check out Leyendecker's preparative studies for his pieces! Very inspirational (though classical). You should use Han to study for you goal illustration like you're studying for a test (but have fun!). The skillset he teaches is a tool to help you learn on your own. Don't follow his week schedule. Learn his techniques, adapt them to how you feel the most comfortable, and use them to help you understand better what you need to draw. He's there to make your life easier.

Yes. What he explains should be understood as soon as possible. As a beginner, your art will look absolute shit for a while, it's inevitable. Trying to understand shapes in space and learning how to observe and analyze the world around you will give you the tools to improve faster. Mind you it should be combined with Hampton and Perspective Made Easy, learn to synthesize and polish your observational skills. If you have a different suggestion I'm open to hearing it. It's just what's worked best for me.

Peter Han doesnt teach perspective(yeah, he "teach" 1,2,3 perspective, but thats all), he even said in some of his streams that he recommends taking a basic perspective course before.

My recommend would be
IMPROVE YOUR OBSERVATION SKILLS
when I mean improve, I'm talking about this
https://youtu.be/iK5Qn_Iwv9A (this will improve your observation skills/accuracy, dextery and sensitize your eyes to see angles)
Perspective is really easy to master if you can draw/see angles accurately.
This is what most beg do when they can't draw accurately

dont, if you are beg
https://youtu.be/594WhCme2pQ?t=140 (CC)

TLDR
1- Learn to copy(decently) and no, you dont need to become a humanprinter
2- then learn perspective(frame perspective, p. made easy,etc)
tip: https://streamable.com/f6a76h
3- peter han or whatever course you wanna take
picrel you can apply to all the fundies

how long do i need to do this accuracy exercise each day to see real results? 20min? an hr?

i tried it for like 3 hrs at one point and havent done it since, i found it very demoralizing seeing myself fail a million times doing 1 line. i didnt see any point in proceeding if i couldnt get it 100% accurate, and evne though i was at it for 3 hrs it felt like i just slowly got worse.

1-2hr(full focus)
after 1 week, you should notice some improvement

SAME, but if you can't even copy a simple line dont expected to be able to do draw something more complex...
use measure techniques and the more you do the better you get.

I agree with your points but I disagree with using Krenz, it's a fucking meme at this point if you don't speak chinese and don't have the average asian 'tism of spending 48284 hours daily drawing. Yes, improve your observational skills, learn about negative spaces and plumb lines. Basically what you get in academic/atelier clases. TLDR if you're a turbo beg, do the Bargue Plates. Copy them accurately.
https://youtu.be/6AxpwRtK6qg

Han teaches you an intuitive approach to understanding space, which as I said should be accompanied by a book like Perspective Made Easy or Framed Perspective. Avoid all those prestigious courses shilled here because they're long as all fuck and a complete waste of time. Perspective is not that deep, it's just annoying.

I said Han as a beginner because his first weeks "abstract" exercises are very useful and can be implemented as short warm-up routines. And for the rest he just gets you drawing useful and comfy stuff like animals and plants. Don't follow his schedule and homework. Get the info and skills from his classes to your own rhythm and necessity.

the warm ups exercise are good(line, ellipses, etc) but once people get into the animal/insect construction part everything falls apart, proportions all wrong and even the construction...
you can tell when someone have a decent observation skills.

>I went through all his notes that were once posted here and yea, very useful stuff, but you can find that as western more readable and less autistic free resources everywhere.
yes, the only reason i linked krenz videos was because, he's one of the few people who really emphasizes the importance of being able to copy something accurately and explain in deep why.
CGMA beg course , Marc brunet beg course, medsmap(supposedly a "beg" course),etc, they dont talk about the importance of being able to copy something and if they do, it's only one lesson and they never explain why(prolly one of the main reason why most people hate or think copying is a waste of time)and then move on...

this is the only video you need from krenz, if you wanna learn from him about copying.
He covers settings, brush, techniques to copy, why to copy, what the best imgs to copy, etc...
Even a preprepre-beg can understand

Copying can only get you so far and then you're alone again feeling stuck even more because you don't have your own procedure to create your own like me who's stuck at a beginner composition level in music and in art but can copy decent enough to be told great by those who know nothing.

where you learn perspective on VIDEO (already reading Norling and Robertson but I want some realtime process video to understand it better)

The ones I know are:
-Marshall Vandruff old 90's perspective course.
-CGMA Perspective course with RogerOda ant also the one of Derek Kosol.
-NMA Erik olson.
-NMA Sheldon Borenstein,
-Gary Meyer (which has a perspective course on Gnomon and another in NMA).
-Scott Robertson videos that come from his book and Gnomon course.

Which ones would you say are the best for beginners? did I miss any important one?.

So far I'm enjoying Marshall one and Robertson videos from the book. CGMA I tried but I still haven't gone through ctrl+paint or anyone who explains how to use digital tools so I'm completely lost when I tried it, CGMA should really consider adding a course on their curriculum for the people who opened Photosop for the first time on their life and can't tell what's a layer before those courses and the hampton one...

As I said I still gotta do the Bargue course of NMA, but how's Leo Mancini as a teacher? going to assume not as good as Vilppu or Huston because they're God level, but I hope he's at least as good as Sheldon Borenstein or Chris Legaspi as teacher, as in, quite better than most average random art teachers that most the time are self taught on par with Udemy shit.

Ok am retarded, NTA's but, where is the videos to go with these subs?

>> No.6605692

when someone tells you "do the guidelines, they are essential for a beginner like you" or shit like that, what exactly do the guidelines imply?. does it mean mastering a mannquin or "atari" like the box or simple shapes mannquins on Marver way and the loomis mannquin with discs for pelvis, or it means at the gesture stage when you draw the line of action and axis lines for shoulders and hips? what part of the process is the guidelines and where is a good place to train them?

On a side note, a problem I have while doing that, is when I draw a circle for head-line of action-tilt lines I'm never too sure how to place the ribcage and pevis mass in relation with the tilt lines (center them, not too high or too low from the tilt line, etc) also not sure what information is giving me the spine/line of action and how to curve it, I usually try to do a big S that's concave forward for 2 heads high (ribcage) and concave back for 1 head (pelvis) but I'm still not convinced on how to use it.

I purchased this one hoping it would be better than it is. It's not very good at all and it's actually very short for the high price (maybe 3 hours worth of content but super slow talking so maybe more like 1.5 hours worth). The artist is speaking English but also has a super thick accent with no subtitles provided.

Coloso doesn't allow a full refund if you so much as open one video so I'd be happy to share it with everyone if you can tell me how to get the video files off the site/app.

The thing with most hard hobbies is more than half of people who say they want to do something never do it. Observe an art playlist series with the number of viewers; it'll have, like, 300k viewers the first video then 180k the next then 39k the next then 20k then 9000 viewers steady.

Or if you pay for class101 you can see how there are "missions" to do. You'll always without fail have hundreds of posts the first mission then the drop off is half of that and as you make your way down it's like 10 - 20 to even just 0 to 5 posts. Despite the knowledge out there, people don't want it bad enough.

Of course I haven't finished watching the course. I've been reviewing the fundies section over while studying and its been pretty insightful. The lectures are hefty and require you to drill it into your brain. Probably won't move on to the character design stuff for another month or two since that's not what i'm after but it's nice to have when I feel I can tackle it. Personally think it's entirely worth it just to keep going back to as you get better. Wish there were extra lessons about color and light though, easily the shortest parts. But I have other books for that.

That's another thing, yeah. Instead of following along while drawing I have to either pause a bunch or make notes and go back to rewatch with the subs because I don't know the language. Notes are good anyway but a dub over would have been a nice bonus.

1. I hated having to read subtitles
2. Beyond that I hated his style of instruction
Watched 2 videos and went back to Vilppu

Are you a late zoomer? I'm noticing late zooms actually prefer Dubbed anime now over sub, for example, because they can't read and watch at the same time.

Video courses are kinda a waste of time. I guess if you watch them instead watching youtube or anime or playing video games they are good.

Are you just looking at the pictures without reading what he's saying as he explains? Are you following along earnestly and understanding how to apply it in your own style and not just blindly copying how he does it?

No, millennial. I prefer sub to dub for anime, but for educational stuff I can't split my attention and get the most out of the material.

you probably could do this fairly easily with AI nowadays. if you're tech savvy check out AutoGPT. might be a fun project

Whoa, actually that is a nice idea. Imagine a course being dubbed over by AI using a movie actor's voice or something.
