Have you tried Cartoon Animation by Preston Blair yet? It talks a bit on differing character designs, and while those designs are quite old, the rules themselves still hold up. I don't remember if it talks about shape language in regard to character design (square being sturdy, triangle being angry, circle being friendly and welcoming etc).

I will admit I avoided ehentai too, simply because I thought it was only going to be lesser material, but there is plenty of good stuff on there that would surprise you - it's a really great resource.

Assuming the tags are reasonably assigned, this is the oldest such book I can find. It was posted in 2008. That's 15 years ago.

Consider that there are a lot of budding artists who want these older books, but speak primarily Japanese, Chinese, or Spanish, and you have a compelling reason to rip and translate these books and then make them freely available. That the English ones often eventually end up there for the rest of us is just a groovy bonus.
