I'm always sad when I see these threads, because I don't have any OCs. So I decided to make one.

This is the Glormoriss, a very large and very, very long gummy worm that lives in a dungeon made of swiss cheese. Adept at moving through tunnels, it will rapidly arrive to observe any loud disturbances. And by "observe", I mean headbutt into the ground.

Well it depends on how much thought I want to put into the character.
Sometimes I’ll just doodle whatever comes to mind. If not, there’s a few strategies:
One can be writing down words/prompts that correlate to the character you had in mind. For example, if I want to draw a pumpkin monster, I might write down “pumpkin head” and then things associated with it like “scythes,” “pumpkin patch,” “Halloween,” “scarecrow,” “crows,” etc. You can then draw thumbnail silhouettes and develop them as you please keeping your list of words in view for inspiration. I call this the “Scott Flanders Method” because that’s who I learned it from.
You could also try writing a little blurb about the character: personality traits, physical traits, how each influences the other etc. Example: if they’re a mean angry grouch and bully, their physical traits might be large, imposing, and square. Knowing what the character is and the goal you have for them is key to making a character that suits your needs.

I'm no magician at it, but what helped me was the circle method. draw the contour of the form like it was cut at that part and no them along the shape. Think about the smallest and largest parts especially, those are good places to start, looks like you did.
If you want to be extra, draw circles around your arm, point is at a mirror in different poses and draw what you see... probably should use a chalk or water based paint unless you wanna be nice and stripey for a while.

This is my OC Samantha, she works at the coffee shop I sometimes go to as a barista.

She's really cute and everyone loves her and wishes they could go out with her. She's super nice to all the customers and makes amazing coffee that's super delicious even for people that don't really normally like coffee.

But secretly she has a crush on the slightly nerdy artist girl from the local highschool that comes to the shop periodically and shows it in cute subtle ways.

why does there need to be a separate thread for designs and concepts to begin with? this is a critique board, it has always been a part of this general, and the threads has always been at its most interesting when people were helping an anon with their designs. Butterpie (blond baker in purple dress) from last year and Peony generated alot of positive feedback and discussion and deliveries and was a nice change of pace from the same old "post oc with no lore and wait-for-drawing' format that has bored many of the people posting here.
