**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

I have too many I like with too many different styles and I let myself get decision paralysis.
What now? Go back to fundies and grind empty boxes until I can figure out which artists I actually like and why I like them? Copy art at random without thinking about it even if it causes my bad, nonexistent style to evolve in an aesthetically pleasing direction that locks off my ability to commit further to a different one because I'm an amateur artist and not a professional who can emulate many styles while retaining their own?

absolute beginner here that wants to draw anime shit. what else should i do other than drawabox and keys to drawing as someone who wants to draw anime characters? I want to try and roughly plan out my pathway. Keys to drawing has been interesting for observation, and drawabox is helping with fundamentals as a complete beginner (I couldn't really draw straight lines before). Is there anything else I should consider doing along with these two? I'm trying to be mindful to not take in too much at a time. Copying artwork makes you better at copying artwork. You'll eventually be able to recreate almost anything you see with a very high accuracy after a few months. It's not a useless skill and if you have fun copying then do that. But you won't be able to draw anything from imagination at all without it looking like prebeg even after months or even years of copying

Most people don't build a visual library by copying artwork. They just copy lines and improve accuracy. don't be like me that i fall into copying trap,i mean copying is great practice and can learn to breakdown artists (and actually make your own method to do it) but i copying too much that my creativity is dead. whenever i try to do art i just look into other artists art/pinterest and "oh i like this picture" let's draw it and tweak some of the part like arm, hand to make it not look like source.

sure this will help you as a beginner but i recommend you try to practice what you want to draw from your mind too.
i start to realize this when i try to make my own comic/manga and results that i can't imagine shit . That's when i realize that i've never train to draw from my mind. i just look into other artists art and steal composition, pose and tweak it into new one. sure this will help you creating new artwork but it actually not from your imagination.

try to practice to draw from your mind too and use reference only when it come to fix mistake, details

Try some different pen settings first. The whole point of a g pen is you can effectively vary the thickness in a way that stays in control and looks good for you. If the thickness is wobbling in and out or is unresponsive and you have to push hard to just get a weighted line, change your pressure curve.

If a pencil brush already works for you, try to copy that brush as closely as possible but make it a pen. Based on that pencil brush's settings this might just be removing texture and changing opacity. Or you might have to modify another pen brush until it feels similar. But you like something about this pencil and how it responds to your pressure and speed.

I've experimented with the pencil brushes and round watercolor sized down for line art but noticed my output looks shitty compared to when I just use default g-pen. What is so special about the g-pen (or pen type brushes in general) that most artists just either use it raw or make variations on it?

be sure to draw from copy too. since copying/studying is still a great way to learn secret or method from your favourite artists. but just don't blindly copy and still put what you learn to create your own from imagination. or else you'll make a habit of looking into other artists work to create something (like me) you should try to draw what you want and express

>>6570438
copying is not a meme if you use it right and understand how to breakdown it . example you want to know artists secret on how to stroke a brush or how they use tools.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AM69kS7y6Jc like this video. copying meanwhile thinking about how to do it by yourself

i recently studying YD on how he use brush and kinda want to get a brush to achieve how his shading brushwork looks like. result is i get a brush output that looks like his works that suit my pen pressure but not exactly the same though. it maybe only me but as i studying/copying a lot i just know that you can't become copy machine you gotta learn and breakdown method by yourself, make your own tools even if you have that artist brushes results might not be the same since everyone use different pen pressure setting, weight ,hand stroke.

know that YD just use default round brush with no fancy things but i gotta setting to make it suit with my hand pressure.

The answer to that question is pretty cancer but I'll tell you anyway. You have to learn to draw. That means you have to read up on all the various skills needed and actively try to learn them.
But I do know a short cut on how to get better at drawing insanely fast. I'm talking about being able to draw cute and appealing girls easily in 3-6 months from imagination. By enjoying the process. If you enjoy learning all these various topics and you don't just copy stuff you make progress so fast it's absolutely disgusting

You know nothing about being discouraged. This pit is bottomless, it shows you newer and newer facets with each passing year. One day you think you are at your lowest and it can't get any worse. One month later you realize it absolutely can.

What I'm trying to tell is being discouraged is normal when learning to draw and actively searching for ways to improve because of how painfully slow the process is. Get used to it.

dunno, i did drawabox lesson 1-2 + 250 box challenge(the challenge is a waste of time) and i only learn a bit of perspective, after that i just brute force(that took a lot of time) while watching videos about perspective...then, once i learn perspective i realized that i need accuracy/observations skills otherwise my construction will be always off....

I took the Naoki Saitou 3 month book challenge for about a month but had to sort of postpone it several times due to school. Currently though I'm getting back into it and yeah I'd say it's proving to be very successful, even with other responsibilities stealing away my time. Copying/emulating a popular illustrator guy's illustration style for his rendering and design has proven to be extremely efficient in making my art better both technically and in terms of people liking my artwork. I would say its moreso a training direction than an actual art fundamentals course (the krenz courses are basically all I've been using since I posted them here, and since the anons reposted it for me after my friend took it down).

Yeah, that's why I have been considering it this method of actually finishing pieces instead of unrelated drills that rarely get implemented. I have failed you on the background. I got frustrated, even though what I was going for looked okay before I erased it.
Overall I'm happy with this. Big difference in terms of quality from what I drew earlier this year and late last year. A bit of construction on the head does help alongside of viewing a favorite artist of mine.
A lot of gripes though. Ikeep gravitating towards thicker brush sizes and weird brushes in general. I want to work with G-Pen since I see most artists I follow use it and the results look nice.

All I want from drawing is anime girls, right? So I thought to myself - what's stopping me from using AI to draw characters for me, while I focus on developing painting skills and learning to fix the errors it makes? That way, I skip the most annoying part.
I've been doing this for a week now, and it's fun as fuck. I generate whatever I want to draw, spend some time making sure the output is good (pic related is a good example), and then shamelessly draw over the outline, minding the errors AI made and putting my own touches. Then I try to paint it myself.
Before I couldn't force myself to draw, but now I can't stop. It's like a game. And I feel some improvement - my linework is getting a lot better, I'm actually finishing stuff instead of sitting upon piles of ugly sketches, and I'm starting to grasp the basics of shading.
I dunno if you can call this being an artist or not, but it's fun.

You do learn stuff from tracing, albeit obviously slowly. Repeating something a thousand times always leaves an imprint, that's why people are told to just draw, no matter what. If that's the way for you to enjoy the process, it's a valid first step (and that's how countless artists began when they were kids).
Improving observation shouldn't be done through cartoons, you need to observe anatomical models with visible musculature. Cartoons approximate the anatomy too much, you won't learn what you don't see.

Tracing doesn't help you with anatomy or construction, but it helps with other fundies - line practice, and training your hand. As you draw over the lines, you're practicing things like line weight, wrist and elbow movement, drawing proper round shapes (a bane of any beginner's existence), etc. This may sound very basic, but you need to master these basics anyway.
Shaming people for learning in their own way is crab mentality at its finest. Let them do whatever they want, art is not a race.

Read Loomis. The human body can be simplified into basic shapes, like cylinders and cubes. You need to learn how to visualize and draw those first. Then, simply build the body out of them, and try to add detail - that's when you learn more advanced anatomy, like muscles, because they turn shapes into bodyparts. Also, google gesture drawing, it would help you understand proportions and dynamics.
It's not an easy process though, so DO NOT think you can just sit down and grind. You'll burn out in no time.

I think head too large, ears too high, redo nose since it doesn't make sense
hips too large for female but you do you, I don't know if it's feminine man or anything but here I tried to redraw on top of your art.
also pushed the head back a little, keep in mind you can use the lasso selection tool to just shift everything like I did with the head. don't be afraid to just redraw on top of your drawings but most of all keep your old drawings and try to redline them or redraw the lines

you're at least close to getting good at fundamentals and after that you're good on your own. I assume this was imagination drawing or did it have refs?
just mind your ratios. like in here I labeled the ratios of the face, and the arms, the nipple is at the center of the rear arm, the wrist somewhat around the crotch area etc etc. the hair is at least okay enough. refer to the thing on upper left

I do ratios after getting lines first, like with your art I tried to pull off the ratios after seeing it but that's my technique, whatever works.
