If you are a /beg/inner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS wide using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in MSPaint

TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help. When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

Can some anon please show me how a human back works or give me some advice on how to understand them better? It's pretty hard for me to get a clear mental image on what muscles become more visible and which ones protrude less when pushing/pulling.

You will never be a real artist. You have no talent, you have no dedication, you have no willpower. You are a low IQ perma/beg/ twisted by anime and video games into believing you could ever reflect nature's perfection.
All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back people mock your shoddy drawing attempts. Your parents are disgusted and ashamed of your lack of progress, your “friends” laugh at your ghoulish art behind closed doors.

Mini painting was easy to learn because, watch YT tutorial, copy technique, done. I realize drawing/painting won't be that way, but is there a actual good course that you anon's reccomend. I've skimmed the sticky, seen a million threads in the past 2 days of kek just draw, kek loomis, kek right side of the brain.

I don't really know what to post to accompany my drawing. I don't really need advice too much.

I'm pretty decent at drawing I think. I don't really enjoy it, but I've been told I have enough natural ability by enough people in my life that it has convinced me to work at it a little more. I don't know how much of it is actually talent or practice I get from doodling tits, maybe it's just the amount of time I put in because I often end up with a lot of trash. I'm at my strongest drawing with reference, but I think art is best when you draw without reference, and the last time I've attempted to draw something it killed my interest for several months. In fact, I'm just starting to do it again after a little over half a year of nothing. I'm not great about this, but I have been getting better. Pic related is my most recent doodle, but it's very simple since it's a side profile. I have a tablet and some paper, but I really don't know much else and, frankly, I don't think I will ever bother. I already am disinterested enough as is, and the theory will kill what I already consider to be a tedious hobby.

Anyways, I guess I'm looking to learn three things; I'd like to learn how to motivate myself to keep going on art projects, how to organize digital artwork, and how to sketch. I cannot sketch for the life of me and it makes it very tiring coming back and adjusting drawings.

Bargue method is to guess and draw a line first. Then you use plumb lines and angles to measure your accuracy. I've seen a few videos on the method use a pencil to check angles, so really whatever helps but I think it's most important to make your guess first before you check the accuracy

I'll request you something to make it easier: do two drawings, they need to be full figures, clothed or naked, your choice doing some ordinary thing like drinking a tea or checking the phone. You need to draw at least a simple piece of furniture like a table or a chair. It doesn't need to be good or detailed, just readable and more or less proportioned
You can add some value if you want. You're free to use references or not

I just try to follow the curvature of the form, the perspective angle, or where the light hits the form in the ref. There's probably a lot better resources than me you could learn from.

I'm not really the best advisor for perspective, but probably a good way to make it easier is to spend some time searching for photos or movie stills that get close to what you want to use, and brutally trace them with a really rough sketch to get the volumetric idea of the scene. Drawings are bad for this because four out of five you get a wrong perspective, it's one of the hardest things to get always right and it's time consuming to do so. Also, a good advice is to do easy stuff if you're not sure of what you're doing because you can fix it and learn more easily if the distance from your comfort zone is less

The general composition is good, but there are many little mistakes (like the chair of the guy in the middle not being aligned with the angle of the ground) that pop up if you look at it long enough, and made more noticeable by the flatness in general. Your eyes aren't trained to be able to discern skill. This is a classic beg mistake. Right now you think your art is very good because you're just not skilled enough to notice what's wrong with it (a lot, almost all of it). I'd recommend learning about anatomy, rendering and perspective because from your pic it looks like those areas are very weak. But I'm gonna be honest you sound like someone that doesn't feel like putting the effort in because of the delusion I described above. Case in point:
>but it's very simple since it's a side profile.
It's not simple 'because it's a side profile', that doesn't even make sense. It's also not simple at all; you've drawn every single hair, every wrinkle of the skin etc. Those are excuses.
Hard truth: your drawing looks like shit but you have a lot you can improve on and those are mostly fast improvements. Good luck.

Nah, dude. You're doing good. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be practiced. It's like writing, as a child you probably spent weeks and weeks practicing your letters, thinking about it, doing workbooks. Now you write just fine.

It's not that you're not progressing, you're just aware that it is something you need to practice. Do a couple of these, then try to copy some architectural sketches with lots of lines to mix it up.

No, I completely get that. I'm not bragging, I'm just trying to provide some context that I'm very much a beginner artist with little passion for art and the accompanying image was just something I was currently working on. My entire portfolio is <10 portrait sketched with a Dixon Ticonderoga, two digital art piece (one of which I did with a mouse), and lots of shit like pic related. My goal is to develop the ability to draw without reference, something which I recognize will require a lot of work. As I said, the reason why I'm doing this is because it's my strongest natural ability according to multiple people, and while I agree that I'm better than most people I am very much intimidated by the amount of effort I need to become something more than competent.

I've just started something just for you so you have something to actually criticize. It should accurately represent the extent of my artistic ability (or my patience, whatever comes first) as it's the most complex thing I have done as I have always shirked at clothes and hair and it'll be the first time working in color and doing a full figure while not drawing with a mouse. I've already put about three hours in and think it will either be done tonight or tomorrow.

When I say I "drew as a kid" I mean I doodled garbage a kid would draw during class, any time I had to choose between video games and drawing I picked video games every single time. That's why I say I "started drawing" about a year ago, because that's when I started taking it seriously. Most people I've known have never really started at one concrete point, it's been extremely bumpy to get to where they are today. Art's not as straightforward as other hobbies so it's a hard question for people to answer unless they had the discipline to stick to a strict regimen. I wish I did.

>Is the sticky good?
If you're talking about the sticky for this board, I think it could be better. It doesn't have "wrong information", but it could give more effective advice. I think people need to realize that learning to draw is learning figure drawing. They're one in the same thing. Figure drawing is your path to learning to draw. Get a good figure drawing book, good supplemental anatomy books, and one good perspective book. Then you're golden. Continue doing figure drawing and making art from imagination, over and over again, endlessly. Andrew Loomis is good, as is the David Finch guide. Learn from people who can actually draw well.

>he fell for it
most people here (and in society at large) are lazy failures. Don't use /ic/ for advice too much.

>What about the whole drawabox business?
I don't know what the courses teaches in detail, since I've never worked through it. Sorry. The exercises are time-tested and good, but the author's artwork isn't that great, so there's a lot of polarizing opinions on it.

I have no idea how to picture it in my head

Mind I ask for a bigger and clearer model

It's a single video rather then a playlist, but thank you. Between keeping a reference closer and such and my upcoming anatomy class, I should hopefully get a better understanding. I found a pose similar to what I was trying, It doesn't seem too far off but I can clearly see where I fucked up.

Wondering why noone else has mentioned it - tune the ass cheeks. Even if the ass is semi flat, right now it has no curvature which would never happen for a grown woman. You're using too many straight lines for the lower part of the butt, very noticeable for her left cheek. Putting a bit of reflected light on the cheeks from the pool will do a lot to make it sexier as well.

Pardon me for not being clear enough.

The abs are pretty much connected to the sternum(your breast bone) through the xiphoid process(encircled in blue). The abs do not directly connect to the parts lower than the sternum. It's connected that way so we won't risk ripping out the huge cartilage that is the costal margin(fake ribs) when we do ab crunches

That's why abs are on top of the costal margin(encircled in red).

What you are looking for is encircled in green. It doesn't have much muscle in that area. That's why it's easy to rupture someone's liver by punching in that area specifically. And it also looks that way because the abs are sitting on top of everything from the sternum to the pubic bone.

I've heard people talk about automatic drawing. Is there a source that goes in depth about this? I'm interested in learning how to do it properly.

End of day 2 as far as I'm concerned. Is this supposed to take so long? How do I do felt? I also need some new music to listen to; I'm sick of Motown and J-Rap.

What do you think causes that? I plan to fix the color, add a little more dimension around the knuckles, and see about thinning the fingers down a little bit, but do you think the arms are too long for the body or something? I imagine that could be resolved once I go back to detailing the coat.

They have that water bloated corpse look. I'd imagine It's a combination of a bunch of things, size, fat hands, and soft rendering. Easy fix cloud maybe be just to eliminate the red from the hands and hope they look like gloves instead.
