Funnily enough, the few times I lost my job and had the entire day to draw I never could find the motivation to do it (I had enough saving to be safe for like 3 years), I would barely draw half or one hour, and that if I even bothered picking my pencil.
Knowing that I had to waste my entire day at work, and that I only had a few free daily hours to actually draw did wonders for me to start using my time more efficiently. I guess some people need that type of pressure.

these idiots don't actually know anything about circumstances for most of the population back then.

Leonardo was absurdly privileged, and came from a rich family. He studied art, medicine, and science while his peers were literally doing slave labor as peasant workers lmfao

Learning how to draw, even learning how to read and write was exclusively for the upper caste back then.

Compare that with somneone that does construction, works at some fast food place or an Amazon warehouse then i could totally see them improve faster.

So by that metric, yeah, the amount of free time they have can be a form of "talent"

>talent isn't real!
Some people just understand and retain certain things better than others. I remember a roommate in college reciting the words that define the law of diminishing returns, but immediately seeking reassurance from another roommate that he didn't need to know the why behind it, implying that even though he memorized the law itself, he had zero understanding of the actual concept. It completely baffled me, because when I'd been exposed to it some time prior, it made total conceptual sense and I could generate as many real world examples and explanations as needed, no wrote memorization required. The same is true with art - some people can copy a few examples, fully understanding them and thus be able to quickly apply the lessons learned to their own pieces. These are the people who seem to improve very rapidly and with little effort, and will "just draw" their way to success. Others might copy the same references with similar accuracy, but when given a blank canvas to draw their own creations, feel stuck and will either draw the same way as before their studies, or maybe try to make a somewhat shittier memorized regurgitation of the studied reference(s). That's not to say that both types can't become great artists, just that the first will have a much easier time and likely not have to cling as tightly to reference material as the second artist.

Basically this. Although without hard work even the talented person will not succeed. I personally think it's actually better to have to work a bit for results and develop a work ethic. It's like the "gifted kid theory"; the kids who were gifted often fail as they get older because it came naturally to them but don't actually value or know how to even do hard work and therefore can't do anything with their innate ability.

Doesn't change the fact that Leonardo was privledged, and studying art was literaly impossible for anyone that was a member of the lower caste to pursue.

Most art from that era was made by aristocrats, nobleman, royalty, or monks. Sculptors were kind of in the middle, and usually a product of masonry guilds, so they were half peasant, half craftsman

>so they were half peasant, half craftsman
What do guilds have to do with peasantry? By the way, Leonardo was a member of the Painters' Guild of Florence. And why do painters don't have guilds in the first place? Almost every city had a Guild of Saint Luke in the Netherlands.

>Most art from that era was made by aristocrats, nobleman, royalty, or monks
Wrong.

>Leonardo was privledged
Being a painter at that time required an apprenticeship, he was as privileged as a smith or a carpenter who was able to finish his apprenticeship.

Here's a paper on Antwerp painter’s apprenticeship in Antwerp of the 15. and 16. century: journals.openedition.org/mefrim/6461?lang=it

Apprenticeships for painters already started in the 14th century.
>the earliest preserved source, the founding charter of 1382 of what shall become known as the guild of Saint Luke already mentions apprentices. The charter states that those who had learned the craft elsewhere could become masters by paying 4 guilders. Furthermore, those who had learnt the craft with an Antwerp master were offered 2 guilders discount on the entry fee upon becoming a master. An apprentice paid 2 guilders entry money and 2 guilders upon getting his masters’ title. Masters’ sons could enter freely.

They weren't all super rich guys as they even had a fund for poor members that were sick and couldn't earn their pay.
>In 1538 the Poor relief box (“Armenbus”) was created by a group of enterprising artists, providing (a meagre) relief for ill members and their spouses.
In b4 only the sons of artisans became artisans themselves.
>Between 1543 and 1579 masters’ sons represent 23.7% of the masters’ inscriptions, and 29.7% of the painters’ specifically. After
