I'm only bored of social networks, not TV/games. There is nothing to talk about on forums but to glance at peoples reactions to what happened in the episode. Or if I scroll down in the comments on a streaming site I'm only either going to get some queer spoiling the manga or ironics talking about how it's 'oh so wrong to like this loli character and you're a bad person'. And then infinity scrolling to like images on Twitter is monkey brain behavior.

I'd rather just seclude myself to consume in peace.

Most people won’t ever reach that threshold. I was homeschooled starting at 7th grade and was a shutin NEET through my teens and 20s. I blew through what consumerism had to offer by 25. I had seen it all at that point and was irreconcilably jaded. To this day vidya and tv makes me dead inside bored.

Drawing is the only thing that compels me anymore. But you only get to this point by gorging yourself on movies, tv and vidya all hours of the day for decades. Essentially you gotta burn a lot of time to get to this point. I feel nothing when I consume media now. It’s like eating cardboard.

It’s a double edge sword bc on one hand it has freed me of the shackles of media consumption, but then also I can’t remember the last time a video game made me feel something. Can’t sit through one. I’ve seen it all a thousand times. Rehashed. I kind of miss it but I can’t un-experience 20 years of gaming hedonism.

There's three possibilities as for why you're not drawing: too busy, too easily distracted or it's not really your priority so you're not giving it dedication. In my case it's the first one. I wake up at 7 AM since work starts at 8 AM, so I'm busy till 5 PM. At 5:30 I gotta get going to college, staying there till 11 PM and arriving at home at 00:00. I get less than 7 hours of sleep and some time during the weekends to draw, and since I don't live with my parents, I have to spend that time to take care of my house, sometimes take the cats to the vet, study for tests and see the friends/family. I'd love to spend the little time I have drawing, but living like this takes such a toll on your mind that sometimes I just can't do it to relax. Sometimes I'll draw during work hours if I can.

Just do whatever.
I draw and play vidya whenever I feel like it, never been an issue.
>ngmi
Well, OP, if you want to take drawing seriously as more than just a hobby, you may as well treat it like work, schedule proper working times like you'd do with any serious work and then draw. You can even set some time apart to plan out what and how you'll be drawing in advance. I like to go to town or into the woods to draw the environment on occasion. Maybe you'd have fun doing that too and you likely wouldn't be distracted by video games there.
I only do scheduling stuff for my work assignments, but if I was drawing professionally, I'd do the same for art.

That's a pretty good drawing for 4 months!
I think the problem that everyone in this thread has is the carrot and stick of modern life.
The carrot is all the pleasant distractions or even other things that you are objectively better at doing than art as a beginner. The stick is the pain and frustration that comes with being bad at something for the first months or years.
What people forget is that art making was literally a craft taught historically in the same way that smithing or welding was. If you have ever seen the crazy stuff that beginner welders make or fail at you would laugh your ass off.
Imagine if every welding beg wanted to become a 6 figure mechanic at Boeing within the first 6 months of starting to learn. For some people on this board the expectation is probably even more ridiculous.
Essentially any able-bodied person can be taught to be a welder. There's varying degrees of "talent" ofc; some people just "get it" faster than others, but everyone will get there with practice in the end.
I belive that people who quit learning to draw simply have other things going on in their lives and treat art as a hobby at best (nothing wrong with that ofc!) If you are already going to school to study engineering and trying to do co-op placements and working part time etc. then coming home and spending hours on what would have historically been someone's sole vocation is just too much. It's not your fault for giving up.
All that being said you kind of have to be a little insane to succeed at art. This isn't something that you can half ass and if you want it badly enough I think you can find a way. Plus learning is fun!

Draw before vidya, commit to the lowest time possible and you'll find you often overshoot it. 5 minutes of drawing and 8hrs of vidya is still infinitely better than 0 minutes of drawing and 8hrs of vidya. Nope they're just the people that see tiny bits of improvement every time they draw. Getting butthurt about starting from zero like everyone does is your own personal hangup.

The feeling that your skills could be better is never supposed to go away even when you reach master level. If you can't get over it as a beg you'll never get over it period.

It's really good if you can pull that of. But going from 'not drawing' to '5 hours a day' can be overwhelming, so I would recommend to gradually draw more and more each day, until you get to 5 hours.

But then again, it doesn't matter as long as it works for *you* anon.
Draw as much as you want lol

top 5 (in hours):
cookie clicker - 2'000 hours (shouldn't count as I leave it on during the entire day)
Factorio - 460 hours (Has long been a favorite of mine, it fuels my autism)
Hearts of iron IV - 400 hours (Nowadays I mainly play this with friends, which is seldom)
Stardew Valley - 185 hours (wholesome, nice pixelart)
Rimworld - 170 hours (Forgot I had this one honestly)

I gravitate towards games that I can play on the main screen, while listening to a podcast or watch something else on another screen.
I like to watch educational yt videos, mainly on; art, history, and electronics. As well as a lot of Tom Scott.

Sometimes I purchase a story-driven tripple-A FPS to play. I have these in high regard and dedicate time to them.
Recently I've been playing 'Wolfenstein: The New Order' which I've found great enjoyment in.

if you're serious about it, your drawing desk is your workplace. vidia and all that shit is entertainment. you relax with some of it AFTER your 6-8 hours of work. (or 2-3 or whatever you can still squeeze in if you're already a wageslave and half your time is eaten).
i.e.: don't be a pleb with no selfcontrol. entertaiment after work, it's that simple.

I had an idea that I got from my boring zoom meetings when they use a wheel to call on names. So basically how it works is you give a mandatory minimum set time to all your hobbies (drawing, game, etc) so 1 hour to drawing and 1 hour to vidya for example. Then use a spin wheel app; this takes discipline on your part to not ignore it.

Since drawing should be your highest priority you should give it x2 to maybe x4 the options on the wheel. So 6 chances for drawing and 2 chances for games for example. So spin the wheel and whatever the wheel lands on you do that thing for half an hour to an hour.

Then spin the wheel again. Rinse and repeat. I think doing this is great for ADHD people with multiple hobbies because you're not making the decision, the wheel is doing it for you.

You have to strap me to a chair to get me to watch anything. I love being interactive in my hobbies, and sitting on my ass wasting hours watching something makes me feel like shit. I respect someone that plays vidya (not shite movie games) more than someone who just watches TV at least the gamer is doing something, instead of just sitting there absorbing media.

You know, speaking of creation and videogames, do you anons like games like Garry's mod or Minecraft?

I've always found games where a core aspect is the player's creativity, to be horrifically boring and redundant. Why would I make a house in a game, or sit there and craft the perfect little residence and home interior; when I could be drawing, or coding, or something that others could look at and appreciate?
Something about these game experiences feel so shallow to me.

People who go the extra mile in games like Roblox and Minecraft are inherently creative in their own right. Like for example, the Koikatsufags who make full blown scenes of their characters in studio mode.

That still takes time and creativity and technically they're already composing a picture, just not drawing it. They're 5 steps ahead of the blank canvas syndrome complainers and 1 character on a white BG drawers. If they could master drawing they'd be unstoppable.

Reading is probably better for ones imagination, as everything isn't personally put onto one's plate - How the characters look, act, how exactly they move etc. is all down to the reader.

That said, I think reading is an "active" thing to do, and is kinda hard to get into compared to just watching something, or playing a game - which I can turn my brain off for.

Man I can kinda relate to that. I used to NEET and do jackshit but play video games and watch anime for years on end. Nowadays the majority of the time I'll start a game and I'll feel a crushing emptiness washing over me. I'll feel anxious if I sit there and consoom for too long kek.
Still I'm not jaded, still enjoy watching art or reading a lot and will play vidya occasionally and have fun.

Lots of easy, good books to get into. Hard part is actually sitting down and reading them. But like everything, just make a habit out of it. For me its started when I made a point to read 5 mins every day before sleeping, but I'd end up binge reading for hours.

I'm with 30yo anon here.
Maybe if you only watch anime or only play videogames you can "run out" of content, but if you are not a low IQ chimp, there is an infinite amount of compelling media.

Moovies, cartoons, anoome, moonga, coomics, goomes, boooooks, moosic. Every genre and language.

I have made some calculations and, in order to live a life where I do everything I want to do, while also consooming everything I want to consoom, I would have to have 14 clones of myself to take care of it all.
An you niggers say you got bored at 25.

Pathetic. But the joke's on me, at the end of the day, cause you are free.

It's my favorite fighting game of all time, but I would never recommend it to casuals. It's definitely catered to competitive players. Imagine a smash that was developed by people who actually like to have fun. It still has an active playerbase. I will admit the game does have some SJW pandering BS (it's minor, just some flag icons) and most of it's community are furries but it's a damn good game.

mmm my biggest problem is just finding the time and being the right day to draw. On weekends, unless I have some pressing assignment to do I can get a happy 4 hours of drawing in but on normal days it's either none of an hour, if I haven't had a hard day. Obviously I would like to spend 4 hours everyday on drawing, cause it's fun, but that isn't feasible with study.
