Hey guys speaking about Procreate and iPads in general, does anyone know any promiment japanese illustrators/mangaka that work primarily ln iPads/iPadPros?
I can only remember @navigavi/Jun whos a fucking monster with Procreate and has eveb released a conplete artbook with his tablet work
Theres also this other guy who makes samurai/edo type of illustrations with that kind of old school japanese style but i forgot his name and hes more of a painter in a way i guess
I ask this bc im in the market for a drawing tablet and i dunno of my linework focused style is a good fit for it...majority of artists online are heavy into painting
(Also does using Fresco solve ant of these issues?)
Ty for the help!

>> No.6545177

If you use tiktok, literally all japanese artists use procreate. You won't find the mega big artists you're imagining that draw the common shonen, but an overflow of artists who are in the 30-200k follower range and are japanese purely use procreate for their works. You can find them pretty easy if you watch any live views they do

if you want portability the ipad pro 12.9 and the pencil is the best there is. The screen resolution and the quality of the color is simply amazing.

There's always ArtStudio Pro.

A lot of people who have tried it ended up liking it more than Procreate. I think Procreate maintains its popularity simply due to how noob-friendly it is. Also, Apple frequently features Procreate in their marketing materials, so it's the first art app most people think of when dealing with the iPad.

How's Clip Studio Paint for iPad? I've never tried it on any platform before.

>How's Clip Studio Paint for iPad
Pretty much the same as desktop, never tried Artstudio but I'd say CSP is similar to Photoshop, except more focused on illustration and comics. The interface isn't really optimized for smaller screens so it can get cluttered, but you can rearrange every window however you like. I like drawing on it more than Procreate, there's something about Procreate's brushes that makes it super frustrating to do anything more than sketch with.
You can try the demo out, can't save in it so it's just to get a feel of the program. Another negative is that it's a subscription outside of PC.

>> No.6584566

>>6584544
I'll have to give CSP a try at some point then. I'm not opposed to app subscriptions as long as it's not too expensive.

ArtStudio Pro is also pretty Photoshop-like. You can even import PS brushes and many of them will work right away or with minimal fixing. That's something Procreate never really got right. It seems people accustomed to other apps like PS or CSP complain a lot about Procreate's brush engine, which I guess I understand, since it definitely feels different compared to other apps I've tried (mostly PS and ASP).

Anyone have any brushes that look like this? Preferable without spreading like crazy when you tile the pen slightly that shit is so annoying

>anti-aliasing
you mean aliasing? all artstudio brushes are anti aliased by default
if you want aliased brushes with no blur just turn on hard edges in brush options lol

>> No.6599355

>>6598296
Thanks but where's the setting for hard edges? I can't find it anywhere.

Seems like ArtStudio Pro blows Procreate out of the water. I don't know why more people switch over to it instead of just dealing with Procreate's weird issues.

That said, ArtStudio Pro did change over from a one-time $12 purchase to a $10/year subscription model. They also offer a one-time payment of $40 for a lifetime license.

Really, it's Apple that causes all these apps to switch over to subscriptions. They don't like developers releasing updates as new apps. So developers either charge a one-time fee and hope to survive off that, or change over to a subscription to keep a continuous flow of income.

Makes me wonder how the Procreate devs keep rolling with the one-time $10 fee for the app.

At least the lifetime price for ArtStudio Pro of this is much cheaper than I assumed (and cheaper than CSP's 2.0 EX upgrade).

Funny enough, I'm pretty sure this is covered in the manual PDF the devs posted a while back.

I wish there was was many tutorial videos on YouTube covering ASP as there are for Procreate.

Anyone know a brush like picrel's lineart? Closest I have is the modified 6b default pencil.

>> No.6605850

Tried it. Paid the $10.
It's cool, tilt and taper works better than procreate which is why I wanted to try it. I like that it has more in depth tools and layer options that come in handy ever so often.

But I'm just too used to procreate's gestures, UI and don't want to abandon all those brushes I spent hours tuning. Noticed some small annoying stutters here and there too. Also, procreate is stupid popular thus has more resources and tutorials and whatnot.

I don't shit on you artstudio bros and I get why you like it, but it's not for me. I personally see this as a SAI vs Photoshop scenario. Photoshop has more features and all the fancy Adobe stuff, but some simply prefer SAI because they're more familiar with it. I don't draw well enough to feel like I'm getting overly cucked by worse engine and lack of features.

Which ipad is good to get for procrate that is cheapest? iPad Pro (9.7-inch) is available locally for $150.

>> No.6606673

>>6606665
presumably any ipad that has apple 2 pencil support. I'd suggest also getting a bigger tablet, but that's just my preference

The 9.7" iPad Pro is already like 7 years old. I wouldn't buy something that old if I were you. If you're fine with a 9.7" screen, get one of the more recent standard iPad models. If you can justify spending more, the iPad Air (4th gen and newer) is a really good option.

Is there just no normal iPad version anymore? It seems like the 9th gen (the latest?) does not support the pencil 2.

>> No.6607139

>>6606967
It supports pencil 1 which is fundamentally the same thing. The only difference is the way it charges.

Why does drawing on clip studio on the ipad feel so ass? the brush engine feels laggy and jittery like its running on 30 fps or some shit. is my ipad pro (3rd gen) outdated?

is this how it feels on a pc with a tablet as well or is it just the ipad version that's like this?

>> No.6608334

>>6608305
No clip studio was designed for desktops. It just runs like shit unless you have a shit ton of vram and ram.

I love CSP. Its my favourite software but it sucks balls on the ipad.

Didn't pay the sub but just downloaded to try and yeah, this. CSP is fine because I'm used to it but having to go into several menus to lasso and deselect is kinda ass and I can't figure out how to put the tools directly on the toolbar. I like how the brushes feel, it's more similar to CSP but if I wanted CSP I would just use that.
Layer adjustments are so fucking sexy though I can't believe Procreate STILL hasn't implemented this shit.
>>6608305
Dunno about ipad versions but my PC CSP only lags hard when I either use a fuckhuge brush or when I have a million layers.
