If you are a /beg/inner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS wide using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in MSPaint

READ THE STICKY:

TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help. When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

Excuse my potentially retarded question but here I go.

How come when I color pick the skin color from the image on the left it blends perfectly back into the image but when I try to apply the color to my own drawing (bottom right) the skin tone looks darker? Using default round mixing brush in CSP

it'll help if you do a bit. at least a few straight lines and indicators of where some features begin and end.

try some accuracy training, and depending on your approach, you may like to start your drawing with an envelope and then subdividing into constituent shapes.

It's kinda hard to understand Loomis stuff when the its a most frontal view of the face. One tip though is to imagine the minor axis of the ellipse is the line from the edge of the eyebrow to the base of the ear. try the pose yourself, it might help a bit.
the forearm is a little too long and the upper arm a little too short. when i do the pose my forearm angles in towards my wrist. also if they're supposed to be putting gloves on tightly, consider rearranging the pose a little. when i adjust my gloves my thumb indexes under the front of the glove/back of my hand. my elbow is also angled a little bit downwards so that it's easier to pull on the glove. that also means the right arm would be turned more inwards so that the fist is facing more towards the chin. you can adjust gloves the way you have it drawn, but it really only feels like you're getting your last 3 fingers while missing the index and thumb
either way though that's just from the way i do wear gloves. you should find a pair and try it yourself in front of a mirror (bunny ears optional)

Hey guys, just recently bought my first tablet (small Wacom Intuos) and CSP Pro. I've had two issues that I need some assistance with.

1. In the Wacom Center I set my pen's second button to be the eraser in CSP. However, it only seems to work some of the time and I have no idea why. I hold it down and the cursor changes to the eraser circle thingy but it only works half the time. What gives?

2. How do I change the pen pressure to be different for different tools? I like the pencil tool to require me to not press down too hard to make dark marks, but I don't want this setting applying to the pen tools as well.

And I guess I had a third question while I'm at it, will I get used to the hovering? It feels hard to be accurate with my tablet right now because of the pen moving around the cursor when I'm not touching the tablet, is this just something you get used to? Thanks.

Still doing horribly in terms of proportions, the pose is also very stiff, I feel like the way I sit has lead to me drawing at a weird skew since I'm not directly overlooking the paper but I'm not sure how to adjust that. Want to move to more dynamic poses but I'm stubborn and want to get a front facing pose acceptable first.

Keys to Drawing. Reclining Figure (Foreshortened).
Barely had time to draw last week, so it actually took me almost 10 days.
Even though I (somewhat) correctly measured midpoints as described in the book, I had a feeling something is not right all the time. I only understood why at the very end. I "moved the camera", closer to the model and the perspective should've changed, but it stayed the same, so it looks unnatural.
Also form sucks, especially her ribcage, it just looks flat, it has no volume and I can't pinpoint why exactly.
There are many details missing, because honestly I burned out on this particular drawing and I am just glad I finished it and can move after being so sluggish for 10 days.

The irises are different shapes and the shading/lighting of the eyes look wobbly (though the lighting principles are spot-on, it just looks rough). Honestly though, the eyes are not what sticks out to me here. The difference in line thickness really sticks out with the chin and it gives it a weird appearance. Also the alignment of the chin/mouth looks off and needs adjusting in lieu of the mouth shape. Honestly just from experience, getting that part right is one of the biggest hurdles for people aspiring to draw anime. Also when it comes to line drawing, if you're going for a rough sketchy style make it apparent, otherwise the rough edges on just comes across as laziness in people's eyes. Basically pick a style that suits you, whether it's more sketchy/freehand or if you want clean linework (I know it's a study but it's something to take note when you're finalizing your line art).

I apologize if I sound like I'm ragging on you, but I'm only critiquing because I can tell that you have potential in getting this right. Pic-rel might help in illustrating my suggestions. I made an edit with the adjustments but I feel bad about editing someone else's work without their permission unless you're okay with me posting it.

Here's my two second fix, though if I were to invest more time in it, I'd most likely go looking for a strong model pose reference, rather than trying to wing it.

The major issue is the left shoulder. For the head to be that far forwards, the left shoulder would need to also come forwards, since the right one is being pulled back so far. The shoulders have to twist along with the torso. So the left shoulder should be right under the torso, and it looks like you made the arm way to long, so I pushed it in, making the elbow also tucked under the body since the upper arm shouldn't be that long.

I think it's salvageable, though it is a tough pose to do without strong reference.

My advice is, none of those things matter at this moment, because you've got like six or seven lines scribbled on a canvas.

You've basically just taken the skillet out of your cupboard, and asked people to critique the meal you're going to eventually cook. Do your drawing first, and worry about critique once you've actually drawn something.

this probably isn’t /beg/ related but procreate is so frustrating… i’m probably wrong about this but it feels faster/more intuitive than other ipad apps like medibang or whatever. but it’s missing so much. i used sai 2 in the past and i guess it was a luxury to have both a straight ruler and ellipse ruler that could manipulate however you’d like. and a proper selection tool that also had a shrink and expand option!! and a proper monoline outline brush (you can have an outline brush, NOT a monoline brush at all). as time goes on i find more and more that i cannot do. ok sorry that’s my entire blogpost.

>Also do you have any advice on making a rough line style look good?
This can vary from artist to artist, so I can only impart basic pointers and tips. One good way to look at it is that each contour can be broken up by strong confident lines. Make it a habit that each stroke reaches a cutoff point to make distinct shapes instead of "scratching" your way through the outline. Remember you want your lines to look bold and confident, not wobbly or scared of itself.

If you're doing vague outlines to grasp forms/anatomy, it's okay to start rough since you're still new. But the more experience you develop doing this, the more you'll find yourself doing sketches with confident lines on the fly. So instead of making your lines flow smoothly into each other, you're forming shapes with each stroke which is what creates that "rough" style to your lines.

Pic-related is a basic example of what I'm trying to explain. You can get more creative with your linework over time as you develop your own style too.

Still haven't gotten the hang of lighting. I know this kind of sucks but I spent a while trying to make the skin and booba look good. Feedback would be appreciated.

beg, symbol drawing with chickenscratch and proportion problems. the sticky should help, also check out loomis for faces and work on line work and proportion. if you're serious about it you should be able to make pretty good progress in a year.

instead of turning the upper body and hiding the left shoulder, I'd just move the head back. Agree with fixanon about the head, just think in your edit, at that angle, the RIGHT shoulder would show more of the front of the deltoid (my redline). Hope that makes sense. Either way, it's not that bad and most people will fap away anyway

her her is difficult to distinguish from the bedsheets because they're both red. try making the sheets blue or green so there some contrast. nice drawing though and very sexy
