Made a goth boy today

He's a sexton (graveyard caretaker) who has a talking gackle for a spirit guide/friend. Haven't decided on a name yet (and will probably play with his design more so he doesn't look so much like the MC) but for now I like him.

Thanks, and yeah they were drawn using only the mirror tool. I’ve been experimenting with it some lately. I kind of like the “creepy” look, and each drawing only took a few minutes. Not sure I’d ever work this type of thing into my actual workflow though. It might be too jarring to look at without editing it some to be less symmetrical.

I don't think the foreshortening really works with this image. One, his leg is in a very, very uncomfortable position for it to be twisting out towards the viewer as it is. Two, from a compositional standpoint, we tend to follow the gaze from a character in a piece toward whatever they're looking at. As he's posed, the line of his gaze is broken by his knee. It makes the composition feel a bit cramped and less interesting than it could be.

Personally, I would do something like this. Repositioning the legs gives some room in the composition to build up a more engaging scene with the environment. But ymmv.

anon i love the way you draw faces!! i think the thing that is making the pose look a little awkward is how the perspective of the upper body and the lower body don't line up, maybe you could shorten the torso and adjust the shoulders to a more frontal view? or if you made it so that his legs are splayed, the hip position would be more aligned with the torso while maintaining the foreshortening. either way good luck with this drawing, i can't wait to see it finished!

Honestly I think a lot of it isn't as "Good" as the rest of the board, objectively. But the difference is that most of the art in this gen is actually stylized, and I think (I don't know for sure I'm not apart of this community I only come here for you's) less people here go out of their way to 'learn' how to draw. It feels like most people in this gen are artists for fun, who probably already post their art on twitter. I think they're less skilled but make more appealing art. A lot of men have nice eyes thanks to eyelashes so the eyes are fine but the overall structure of the head, especially in the left images, is very feminine. Pencils can be annoying, but quality makes a big difference too, like when I first tried acrylic paint I was all holy fuck painting sucks ass, but that was mainly the paints being so ass as a beginner I couldn't make it looks good. If you can mb try and get access to sonehwere you can try out high quality pencils like a class or something. If you're talking about your shading, it doesn't make much sense.
The light looks like a spotlight, which has a strong light and is coming from above, but the lighting looks like it's in front of the subject and to the side. Make where the lights hitting from above strong and the shadows below dark. There should be plenty of references of photos with spotlights out there for ref.
Otherwise, it's a fun pic, I love that crazy face off to the side, really emphasizes the cartoony vibe

i think the naked bnuuy you posted had a lot of potential as a character design, it was clean, sharp and the style gave it a sort of moody look that i think would really work as a template for further endeavors. if i had to give you advice it'd be to look into composition and design...maybe even try coming up with some outfits for your characters, you can really make your art more appealing by just contextualizing it. i know for a matter of fact that if you expand your horizons a bit you'd fill in a very specific niche of gay shit that's kinda stinky and grungy (positive connotation)

as for the chick with the hormonal imbalance - i'd make her even more monstrous and disheveled. she's just a human, but she looks and is treated like an oni...that's a cool concept, it just needs to be expressed, given some sort of context and weight. you'll still have people who don't "get" it, especially on 4chan, but that's inevitable.

There have been anons who have posted studies of typically "not cute" males (old, bald, etc) in here with no problem. I think most regulars don't necessarily care how attractive they are (bar obvious shitposts/low effort work) so long as the artwork depicts actual males.

anyone else struggles with fun drawing? recently i started doing my fundies, started with ''fun with a pencil'', then ''figure drawing for all its worth'', currently on ''drawing heads and hands'', i dont struggle sitting and studying, but i really dislike everything i make and i dont find enjoyment in drawing anymore. There are many things i want to draw though, but i feel i will never be able to make art i truly like

I’m not going to critique your drawings on individual features (not that you’d listen since I’m a “pretty anime boy” drawer), but I’ll just say you should be doing Master studies for stylization. Find an artist who draws in a style you like and break down what they do in their work. What shapes do they use in a character’s nose? How about eyes? Use simple constructive components and then try copying it in from several different perspectives. Good luck.

Again if you're not drawing attractive men then why are you here? You're making it extremely difficult for people to help you because we know have to tip-toe around the big ugly elephant in the room because of your frail ego. You don't like hearing this but there is a direct correlation between ugly art and a poor understanding of your fundies. Your studies show that your art and stylization are bad. Simple as. You intentionally pick mediocre-looking men as a base to draw then you overexaggerate their features yet you somehow made their skulls too thin in 3/4 and profile, misaligned the eyes, feminine shoulder widths in 2/3 images, giant head in one picture, extremely wide mouth in another, a fucking baby hand, the black man that looks like a dyke. Adrian Brody's (?) already big nose is twice as wide. Those nasty ass /beg/ ears etc. There are just way too many things wrong here that proves that poor fundies = ugly art so don't give me that 'ugly isn't a valid criticism' shit because you couldn't be more wrong about this.
