If you are a /beg/inner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS wide using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in MSPaint

TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help. When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

Yeah, it's readable. I'd suggest working on the symmetry a bit more. Try to make the snowflake mass shaped more like the wing, and if you can, try to make the snowflakes themselves more symmetric. Though snowflakes in nature aren't always perfectly symmetric, their flaws still follow the crystal structure - it's things like pieces snapping or melting off, or two snowflakes fusing together. You don't get snowflakes that are bent.

There should be more arch to the back, with the shoulder slightly behind the head. Hand looks dodgy. The lower half of the body should appear larger from the vantage point of the viewer, paricularly the lower legs and feet. Bottom leg should be more under the top leg.

Focus more on observing the relations between the different parts of the face for the next one. The eyes in particular are too close together and the mouth is far too wide. As a general rule, the eyes can fit another eye between them, the tip of the nose is located at 45 degrees from the edge of the eye and the lips end just before the center of each eye.

nice work. post the ref? are you going for a painterly alla prima vibe or autistic photo realism?

I think it partly just looks a little muddy from being overworked, like you started working zoomed in with a small sized brush too soon after getting most of a solid lay-in. there are some micro value shifts that could be cleaner, they look sorta scrubby in the close up (e.g. the shadow above his brow as the form of his head recedes). you also maybe started getting precious with small shapes and high contrast features too early imo. that starts to make it look a little uncanny, I think: notice the eye, especially. it looks strange next to his cheekbone-temple area, which is all flat midtone. the gradient on nasolabial fold where it touches the nose, and the little cleft on the tip of his nose, might be going too far at this stage, too.

try to suss out more medium sized shapes first after the big shapes, and then be very strategic about going in for details and not rendering until the last possible minute. try to find where you can maximize bang for your buck with just clean gradients and picking out hard edges first. your big shapes and value relationships are good already. I ran your painting through a noise filter (picrel), it removes some of the uncanniness and muddiness imo. I think that reveals that you have strong start and were just getting ahead of yourself.

I'm a retard btw so take all this with a grain of salt.

Me personally?
Lately I just find stuff on my phone and copy it to my sketchbook. Before that I was trying to construct humans, but being quite beg myself I was hitting a wall on progress.
My best received work has been sketches of shit in actually looking at, but often I'm at the same places every day and nothing I see is grabbing me.
Pic is the best example. Left is a quick sketch I had less than a half hour to do from life, right is copied over a longer time later that day or the next. (I was going for a primarch Leman Russ vibe if you're familiar with Warhammer.)
Last week I was very tired and busy and drew 5 female athletes from a photo, one per day just to get something done. (See >>6504555)

basically, get your shit and watch and follow along. he does just draw quick time lapse. its all real time. he explains the shapes he's making and steps he takes. he explains how he is measuring distances and relative anatomy shapes and areas to place stuff and divide up the face. he explains everything as he goes. if you cant figure it out after watching jones, you should just quit. this is the easiest and simplest and best set of videos for understanding loomis stuff and going from 'heres a circle, heres a face!' that the plates typically show. his other videos on channel are taking reference photos and applyin gloomis and reilly rhythms to get the face down and then typically renders them eithe rsame video or next one. if portraits are your goal, his channel is an excellent resource.

I’m kind of high rn so I don’t have it all together but I have to describe this

I just zoot imagined up the best goddamn idea for an animated music video for a story I’m working on and I have NO art skills. None. And I know that I don’t have, what, two, three years I assume to figure out all the mechanics of this thing to make it work in any amount of time that will make it relevant, (the series ends in two months, it’s sort of a ‘hey here’s a fucky moment in an AU, see if you can figure out what happened’ in media res thing) let alone animate it to a song.

Anyway, what would be the best way to save this idea on paper for sober me or likely artist I commission to make it for me and match the crazy movie in my head? Don’t just spam shit I gotta read to git gud, I want to triage the brain fart into something real before I forget it.

This is probably a dumb question, but when doing the spherical forms section of The Vilppu Drawing Manual, should my drawings look more like the ones on the right, very basic spherical shapes kinda like snowmen, or should they try to copy things like the arms and butt and breasts. The ones on the left still have evidence of the spherical forms, but they're much more curvy and detailed and I don't know if I'm intended to go that far yet. I know he quite literally says "Don't feel pressured into feeling that you have to do fancy detailed drawings" but I'm not sure if he's directly referring to these, or if I'm expected to be able to copy these too.

Hi, I'm new around here. I'm usually someone who does environment/perspective drawings. But lately I decided to start trying to develop my character drawing skills.

I've been studying the Loomis method (I have his Head & Hands book and Figure Drawing book) and various examples. I've been focusing on artists like Freddie Moore, John K, and Anna Cattish. I'm trying to practice a sort of "classic Disney" style with little hints of new stuff. Borrowing from Manga a little, but not going full weeb (they just seem to have their technique down to an exact science and it's hard to not be drawn to that).

Anyway, I've been practicing drawing heads for a week and I feel like I've hit a wall. I don't know what other rules or tips I need to be applying. I also don't quite know how to reconcile the Loomis method with Disney heads, Anna Cattish heads and manga style heads. It feels like there's especially an issue with where the brow line and eye line should go for those different methods.

I dunno, what can I do to improve my heads and practice?

Turbobeglet problem, how do I counter perspective looking weird, when I draw with pencil on a paper, which itself has perspective?
