Got into art to make comics and build worlds. Here’s my progress for the last few years. The one from 2021 isn’t half bad but I never got around to inking and coloring the thing so it’s sitting in a usb probably forever. 2022 is a failed attempt to get to the style that I eventually get to in 2023, notwithstanding many other failed styles that year.

Going forward I’d like to focus on organic story flow, keeping things easy to read. I’d also like to stay consistent with the artstyle I have now instead of changing it like a schizo every few months. Hoping to improve it actually.

going digital is one of your problems, not that its digital, but because you have no idea how digital works.
1. use an anti-aliased brush, as in a brush that is pure pixels
2. stop using gray or black to shade. when you drew that first one did you shade with a gray marker? no? of course not, they dont exist, you shaded by having the same value, just more vibrant and deeper, not blacker.
3. stop shading entirely, shading is a beg trap and is its own study.
4. work on line-weight, notice how in your first drawing there are bits of intense thick lines and parts where its nice and soft, your new one has all the same line, and its all not working.
5. stop sketching, first draft is the final draft.
its like your raw shapes are fine, its just that nothing else is working with it, the boots and legs are nice, you just botched it all with that grey half-assed coloring and trying to emulate le nippon artists instead of trying to draw what feels good. anime is a solved medium, either fall in line or make your own feel.

Drawing was never a passion of mine but I got passionate for it when I realized it could potentially be doable and I could one day craft the stuff I already got in my head/imagination all the time. Learning from scratch with no skill is tough though, I definitely feel like I lack a lot of natural talent when it comes to being "clean" with my art work, and it takes on really sketchy vibes that I can't get rid of.

As far as turning 30 I literally don't care. I lost my 20s to more than just my own doing, life was pretty rough. Im fine with being in my 30s, maybe I am just a late bloomer. All my heros are in their 50's and they all wish they were still 30 so I don't know its all context. Theres a method you can use measuring the station point (your eyes/camera position). Which Erik Olson teaches of you are curious.
But personally, at least as of now, I just make a thumbnail, then decide if the horizon will be up or down that way, it's faster and less frustrating

gather a collage of your favourite pieces from your favourite artists, stare at it and analyze what makes the piece likable, implement it into your art. also do material studies. pull up a pic of some cloth and try and copy it greyscale first, then move on to colours. im still learning. hope this helps
