I realize once again that social media is total bullshit, actively hostile to artists, and I take a break from it to focus on my work from a personal level. Then again, I don't have the pressure of needing clients or anything like that, so this won't work for a professional.

Any type of exposure is fine, but it doesn't change how I see my drawings. I draw for myself, and if people like my work, then can get commissions from there.

In this case, what do You want out of art? For me, drawing my characters is enough to keep me happy. So much so, even if the job side of art is all working well, if I don't draw my personal stuff I start to get discouraged.

I honestly don't know. I just get ideas that I think are worth realizing (but require very different skill sets to execute). I get super hyped for the final product, I finish it, and then reality sets in.
I'm asking /fag/ for advice because /fag/ at least seems to enjoy what they do.

I don't know if I do what I do out of boredom, delusions of grandeur or what. When I finish something, I get thoughts like "oh, well that was a waste of time and nobody cares about it, I should have spent this time doing something else". But then I get the next idea, and the cycle starts again.

I feel like I'm stuck in a catch-22 where I'll be disappointed in myself if I do nothing, but I'll always be disappointed by what I make.

It could be general negative thoughts from not having close friends or social status, but that's not easily fixed. It's difficult for me to build a circle around my hobbies because I jump ship too often to really "get good" at things (and being a /pol/cel doesn't help).

If I was smart, I would channel this energy into making some kind of soulless moneymaking machine, but alas. I can't learn to be content with vidya, weed and anime porn like normal people.

I think the TL;DR is that I keep chasing the dragon trying to make the next big thing, but I get easily discouraged and don't stick with things or chase trends.

I used to have this type of emotion. But in my case, I'd complete a drawing, be happy with it, and convince myself that I can never make anything as good ever again, and take me hours (sometimes days) to get the courage to draw up something again. I repeat this cycle upon each drawing, but now when I hear that voice I let it hang out with me. Instead of feeling doom, I'm just like "lmao you might be right" and just start on the next drawing soon after.
Overall, these emotions are gonna be hard to defeat. But instead of removing them, try to be friends with them. And you'll see why said emotions are making you think the way you are. Otherwise, you really have nothing to lose.

drawing furry stuff has leveled up my ability to draw figures so much because I want them to be in particular poses and have interesting designs. When just studying or producing other art I don't exercise the imagination muscle. Whereas furry stuff is like intense training of that muscle. And you quickly see when you're not doing well because people won't marvel at a well rendered furry image with no imaginative design/pose/whatever. It's really cool and interesting and I'm glad I got into it. You can see just in this thread how creative furries are because they're always exercising that muscle, and doing so in a fun way

Thank you for your input my man. My first big goal for this year is getting competent at character art in general (specifically I want to get better at dynamic figures, poses that make sense, facial expressions, detailing, hands, explicit NSFW art, general appeal and developing a natural feel for characters in perspective) and get my first 4 digits number on my Twitter account if everything goes well. I've tried studying Hampton for the first 20 or so pages of his book, but at this point I might scrap him and go right for Villpu since he seems to have most of what I am looking for. My advice would be to do some gesture sketches, 30 seconds to a minute each, quickposes dot com is pretty good with it. This will help you to capture the flow/line of motion more accurately and with much less effort after you do them for a while.

I've been doing Bridgman, about to complete the book and so far it's helped me a lot. Not so much to draw like Bridgman, but to just draw in general. I had doubts in my abilities to draw and study, but I kinda forced my way and suddenly those doubts basically turned into my friends. Sure, I still get those doubts and anxiety, but really it's a matter of working through it, and not waiting for it to go away. Eventually you just learn to hang with it and it'll become a normal feeling.
Otherwise, I need to start drawing up more dynamic stuff.

and I've had some thoughts on the subject since I posted.

If one's parents are furries and this information is concealed from children, it would probably stem from concern regarding an audience.

Furry parents probably would withhold this because there's a lot of different places/people one may end up hanging out with within the fandom given that there's a huge output of porn and some very vocal weirdos that drown out the more normal ones.

Word getting out to a kid's friends might also make the "Anon's parents are weirdos" and lead to potential embarrassment from peers.

The parents also do not yet know what their child's likes/dislikes are and given that they will be housing the child for 18 or more years, everyone being cohesive is important, both nuclear family and external.

hopefully someone will give you better pointers but from my limited understanding:
1. line width counts, use width to accent different areas, currently your whole drawing uses a total of 2 different thicknesses for outline + detail lines
2. you need to use more lines to define shapes, normally you'd do this with shading which you have done and is nice but that should be a *secondary* component, every region that has any roundness whatsoever and pops out from the perspective of the "camera" could have a line to accent it, like on the butts, on the face around the cheeks etc.
check a *lot* of cel-shaded art and do studies on simple objects to get a feel for it

Cel-shading is just consolidating a range of values into a few shades. So studying values in general will give you the skills you need to reduce them down.
As with any skill, it's better to cultivate the proper foundation before you start trying to simplify things.

he doesn't appear to be sitting on the bench right. his sitting position would more indicate he's sitting on the very edge of the bench but he's positioned closer to center.
His right leg should also be "propped up" more from the corner of the bench but instead it has a form that would indicate it's resting against a flat edge.
He should be moved more to the viewers left and "forward" on the bench. the corner of the bench should then be between his legs, allowing your eyes to better formulate his seating position

the lower half of the kneeling position is a little wonky
try kneeling right now in this position. the horse's left leg and hip should be more of a 90 degree angle, but this position indicates a "Squat". The pulling back posture is flat out impossible. I tried mimicking it now and physically could not - worse yet, my pelvic joint hurts a little now.
If you're dead set on the position, I'd recommend switching his right leg from a knee-to-ground into more of a sitting-on-ankle position. Even then, he's not gonna be able to pull back like that.

Although being on the 'sparkle-dog' territory, I do appreciate the restraint of not adding every single colour in the rainbow. However, I agree with the first anon that the saturation is a tad high, and a more limited palate, like taking away the green teeth, would make it look less confusing. It would also help by having less scars to make them more meaningful, although I like the semi-tribal scaring on the shoulder. The anatomy is good, it still feels a bit flat, probably because of the angle of the collar.

It's not bad, but every design has to go through redesigns, until the work is marketable. Good job, so far.

I think the lineart is great! I think the motions lines are a bit too in the way, i dont know how to explain this but maybe the can fade at the ends or starting to taper out. Because its a past motion it wouldnt be as in focus. But thats a personal preference.
Her head seems consistently misplaced, it doesn't read that her head is connected in-between her shoulders, it feels like its too off to the side. I understand that it could be a artist choice because you want her expression to be readable but its something to keep in mind.

I was reading dystopian content on a supposed genetic revolution and thought about if this gene editing technology would make furries irl possible.

What do you guys think a world like that would look like? Would you sign up for it supposing that after enough time and user reviews it was deemed safe enough?

I personally think it wouldn't be a good idea on account that there would probably be a lot of impulses that would conflict with the human half, and also horrible visions of high shampoo costs and clogged drains.
I do still feel conflicted feelings on the topic however.

you'd probably do like a cat and just tongue bath yourself to remove the top layer of dirt and oils and only bath once you get actually dirty, like ending up covered in mud or sauce or something
