Compression? More like transformation. Imagine your trying to predict for staffing for a subway station. You'd count people entering the station, time of day, day of week, schedule of teams at local station, is it a holiday, weather, etc, then create a model. You can use some of the variables to use the model to predict number of users and use that to staff accordingly.

If I feed an image compressor the Afghan Girl I'll get an Afghan Girl with missing parts that has been interpolated in some fashion. If I ask an AI that has been fed the Afghan Girl in its training for the Afghan Girl, I'll get the Afghan Girl with missing parts that has been interpolated in some fashion. So what exactly is the difference? I have taken an image and described it in a mathematical format (which compression and data storage always is, even if the methods differ) that can then be used to partially reconstruct the image afterward. Genuinely interested in your take, not trolling.

I'm asking this as a theoretical question meant to explore the workings of the machine itself; the amount of images trained shouldn't have any bearing on the base methods/function of the AI, unless there's a whole other layer to this that I haven't seen mentioned literally anywhere else.

That is because the act of typing a prompt is not supposed to get back the latent space representations of the input data but rather interpolations from the latent space. However, this does not mean that the input data is getting "lost" in the latent space and in fact all the interpolations you are getting out of SD are just various mixes of input data. That's why it's not wrong to call it a "collage tool", though I'd personally call it a merging tool

Yeah they did, literally all of them did. The difference is that if you can draw it takes 5 seconds of typing and the press of a button to realize why you don't want to use it. Prompting is boring as shit and immensely unrewarding. The same image made by my own two hands is infinitely more endearing to me than one that I created in 5 seconds and could create another version of in another five seconds.
