Looking at this screencap again, it's actually fascinating how much this single image reveals about their entire relationship. Shad's childishly excited posture and expression, the clasped hands, all his inner feelings turned outwards, the moment of finally being able to catch up, finally being noticed by his little bro and proving to the world that he can be worth just as much ... while Jazza is clearly having trouble hiding his disgust, being faced with someone he loves and used to look up to for most of his life acting in such a petty and childish way. Subconsciously knowing that he is better in every aspect of life, yet still forcing himself to entertain his dear brother, to engage with his childish games, not out of curiousity or fascination but out of sheer brotherly love. An utterly tragic duo, you could write whole novels about this shit

Latent space just embedding of a set of items within a manifold. Measure the items and assign a position so similar items (with similar features) are near each other. You can use Barnes-Hut transformation (i.e. dimensional reduction), to visualize it. Simple.

Latent space refers to a lower-dimensional representation of the input data, where each point in the space corresponds to a specific configuration or state of the system being modeled. It is called "latent" because it is not directly observed in the input data, but can be inferred from it, which means it isn't any form of compression retard, you'd have known that if you didn't read "Machine Learning for Transgenders"

>> No.6474836

>> No.6474839

>a form of data compression then?
Compression? More like transformation. Imagine your trying to predict for staffing for a subway station. You'd count people entering the station, time of day, day of week, schedule of teams at local station, is it a holiday, weather, etc, then create a model. You can use some of the variables to use the model to predict number of users and use that to staff accordingly.

>> No.6474840

>>6474836
Where did you get the "compression" from? It is called latent space for a reason, and not "compression" space.

>> No.6474842

It doesn't "transform" shit, it's just a different way to describe the SAME data using mathematical functions. You can literally google "latent space" right now and find articles upon articles calling it a form of data compression. What else would you call it? A "machine brain"? Magic?

Point is, if it was a true compression design, you'd be able to extract the data that's still very similar to the original, however it is impossible as the data is transformed after being turned into a model. At most you'll get something that looks vaguely similar, but the original data no longer exists

Because it's compressed, you idiot, you are literally just proving my point.
>oh it's not compression because it's compressed to a point where it's just vaguely similar not similar
Are you even listening to yourself ... If I take an image, scale it down, then scale it up again, I will also get something just "vaguely" similar to the original but it doesn't turn it into a brand new image
>>6474863
Even if the "new" output still describes the same data?

>> No.6474883

>>6474880
It isn't compression, since with even very lossy compression you'd lose image quality, meanwhile with this you'll get an alternate result. If you input a blonde human and suddenly when you want to extract your data you get a black haired human that also now suddenly has beard, that's not compression, that's transformation. The image didn't suffer from quality degradation, it was transformed, and no longer can be associated with the original image. Calling it compression is like calling atoms "funny small balls".

Not that anon but couldn't you say that said "different result" is a form of loss? If I feed an image compressor the Afghan Girl I'll get an Afghan Girl with missing parts that has been interpolated in some fashion. If I ask an AI that has been fed the Afghan Girl in its training for the Afghan Girl, I'll get the Afghan Girl with missing parts that has been interpolated in some fashion. So what exactly is the difference? I have taken an image and described it in a mathematical format (which compression and data storage always is, even if the methods differ) that can then be used to partially reconstruct the image afterward. Genuinely interested in your take, not trolling.

I'm asking this as a theoretical question meant to explore the workings of the machine itself; the amount of images trained shouldn't have any bearing on the base methods/function of the AI, unless there's a whole other layer to this that I haven't seen mentioned literally anywhere else.

>> No.6474893

>>6474883
>If you input a blonde human and suddenly when you want to extract your data you get a black haired human that also now suddenly has beard, that's not compression, that's transformation
That is because the act of typing a prompt is not supposed to get back the latent space representations of the input data but rather interpolations from the latent space. However, this does not mean that the input data is getting "lost" in the latent space and in fact all the interpolations you are getting out of SD are just various mixes of input data. That's why it's not wrong to call it a "collage tool", though I'd personally call it a merging tool

Why the fuck is it so difficult to get a layman's explanation of how this shit is supposed to work

Every time an AI proponent shows up to talk about this stuff they speak in absolute buzzword technobabble with no explanation of the underlying concepts and then when you ask "what the fuck does that mean" they go "HAHA ARTIST 2 DUM 2 UNDERSTADN FUTUR."

I unironically just want a straightforward explanation of this goddamned bullshit, jesus christ. If it's "just another tool" and we're not supposed to be luddites then the least you could do is give us a fucking primer.

Sure, the end product does resemble art and may even be classified as such, but it’s not them who produce it. They just request it from a machine AKA the actual artist.

Tbh he is not entirely wrong, he is just turning it into some weird appeal to emotion argument. The truth is that most artists have no interest in using ai but also can't be bothered to learn enough about the tech to justify not using it, so they just use some variation of "it feels wrong/soulless" ... you can't expect every random artist who dislikes ai tools to start rambling about latent space representation of data.

The problem with focusing on that aspect is that they critically miss the fact that animators at large are already being treated as subhuman garbage and they don't get to work on what they personally want to.
Miyazaki and del Toro are the kind of people you least want to hear focus on the emotional component because it just makes them sound like sheltered idiots.

Yeah they did, literally all of them did. The difference is that if you can draw it takes 5 seconds of typing and the press of a button to realize why you don't want to use it. Prompting is boring as shit and immensely unrewarding. The same image made by my own two hands is infinitely more endearing to me than one that I created in 5 seconds and could create another version of in another five seconds.
