When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help. When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

Beefheart Anon here.
I'm trying to think of a way to draw a certain being. I think I should sort of recreate it with a Beksinski/Giger-esque artstyle. It's sort of like if Lovecraft thought of a monstrous freight train straight from hell.

I think in the past centuries of America, maybe even in the era of the mythical Wild West, it could appear at the train station, at the platform, opening the doors to its innards , giving the passengers a chance to enter.
A kind of beast that has adapted to the creations and actions of man, choosing to move through now popular railroad tracks of a then younger America, merging together with the now binded clueless passengers, never to be found again.

"A chain with yellow lights
That glistens like oil beads
On its slick smooth trunk
That trails behind on tracks, and thumps
A wing hangs limp and retrieves

Bulbs shoot from its snoot
And vanish into darkness
It whistles like a root snatched from dry earth
Sodbustin’ rakes with grey dust claws
Announces its coming into morning
This train with grey tubes
That houses people’s very thoughts and belongings.

Bat chain puller
Puller, puller

This train with grey tubes that houses people’s thoughts,
Their very remains and belongings.
A grey cloth patch
Caught with four threads
In the hollow wind of its stacks
Ripples felt fades and grey sparks clacks,
Lunge into cushioned thickets.
Pumpkins span the hills
With orange crayola patches.
Green inflated trees
Balloon up into marshmallow soot
That walks away in faulty circles,
Caught in grey blisters
With twinkling lights and green sashes
Drawn by rubber dolphins with gold yawning mouths
That blister and break in agony
In zones of rust
They guild gold sawdust into dust."

>> No.6474781

>>6474733
Sketches look better because:
1) you chicken scratch/draw multiple lines and your brain imagines a better drawing than what you've actually drawn
2) you draw big confident strokes when you sketch but small slow-moving cautious strokes when you ink
With digital ink lines I try to adjust the stabiliser.
When it comes to painting keep in mind you're not just working with line anymore, you can't just suggest the form and shape, you have to be more specific, so if the form and shape and lighting isn't exciting colour can kinda ruin the picture.

I feel as though I have an adequate grasp of form and perspective when I copy a reference, but for some reason when I try to break things down into simpler shapes I struggle a lot more. As if the process of deconstruction into simpler shapes is too much to handle while also thinking about form and perspective. My guess is that using more abstract shapes helps mask my lack of perspective knowledge, which then manifests whenever I try to do pure perspective shapes. if you practice copying references, you get better at copying references
unless your references are simple geometric shapes, you're not going to improve at drawing simple geometric shapes, the word "simple" here is misleading, nothing is simple, you have to learn how to draw a thing before you can turn a different thing into said thing
you know what a cone or prism looks like in the same way you know what a leg or a face looks like, that is to say: you don't really, your brain just tells you that you do and then leaves you on read when you ask for proof
it's why i keep saying that construction is bad for real beginners with the way people here market it as a solution to incompetence rather than a technique like any other

Experimenting and further iterating

>> No.6475864

It's just something I've gradually become accustomed to over years of drawing. Started out just drawing things that interested me, and because it looked like crap I looked up any references that could tell me about what I struggled with, and over time just accumulated a feel for it. I'm still a far way away from where I'd like to be, but I've only started drawing daily very recently. Previously it was only a few days a month or so. I'd reccommend something like what you see in the bottom page on my photo where I iterate the same image a few times, focusing in on a certain portion and in an attempt to get it right, then once you've done that you might try to go a step further and draw the same thing from a different angle, but that's pretty advanced.

Over time I got used to my tablet, and I settled into a sweet spot where I don't adjust as much it anymore. But basically, if you're drawing a big, slow line, turn up stabilisation so that your jittery hands don't affect the smoothness of the line. Turn down stabilisation for light, quick strokes.
It's really a matter of confidence in the end, doing a lot of ink drawings (trad) with no undo can help you get over the "I did it wrong, undo" feeling

Hello beg, today it was slow and painful.

>>6474160
Because unlike in any other craft or skill there is no consensus on literally anything. For every dude claiming loomis is the best you will find one who swears drawing boxes is the way to go. There are even people saying copying is waste of time. Sure i could just blindly trust the first beg book and then think thats all there is to it and jump to int books but i want to make my own opinion. And honestly the books dont repeat much themselves, so far each brings new revelations. Its fun to go through them.

ok, go copy some golden era early 2000s CN genndy tartakovsky/craig mccracken characters or anything similiar to that in complexity and do it such that you get them almost perfectly right, good enough to be absolutely, unmistakably on-model proportionally; don't shit it all out on the paper in a matter of seconds and then scribble over it, take the time it needs to be correct, copy the lines, carefully, patiently analyze their sizes, angles and trajectories, no construction; once you get a couple of them right and realize how hard even that is, you'll understand why copying photos of real people at your skill level is a fool's errand
stop doing the loomis method and other techniques that you clearly can't even follow or even draw correctly in and of themselves, you should already be aware of a voice in the back of your head telling you that you can't do it, you can't use it and that it isn't helping you, but i'll go ahead reaffirm that for you: you can't do it, you can't use it, and until you change that, it will only hinder you; it's basically a pre-sketch religious ritual at this point
then go do draw a box to improve your lines and geometry, completely forget all the bullshit about any theory you think you've understood, you haven't understood any of it and that's not entirely your fault, the sticky is full of shit advice that shitters regurgitate in order to fit in

Recomendation Try drawing naked ppl first, No need to ad a peenus weenus or a cunny .just a nondescript groin or just use a skintight suit excuse

ear too smoll,

head too large but can be chalked up to a cartoony look,
right pec looks ok-ish (except the nipple) ,

HIS neck is a combination of trapezoids and the neck , try seperating the two visually somehow ,
abdominal curve looks ok ish

Either the nose is too high or the mouth is too low

right fist looks blocky but has depth

, left one looks terrible

right forearm needs some work / looks too short

there is no elbow skin fold which is seen when the arm is bent

Neck is too right leaning (prolly a resoult of combining traps and neck

groin needs some work (look at obliqe muscles and where the leg muscles "crawl "underneath them (obliqes are sometimes called a dickroot because there is a tendon that points to your dick and is vissible in muscular buit low fat people .

Your feet game will be on point as soon as the toes get better - proko might have a utube vid on it,

beg for sure but a spirited one, dont get comfy with your stile , you will make strides in the beggining , especially if you follow a guide or have a teacher

Try and look at proportions- you can use head or cranial units (probably more measurements out there) , get the basic human template and wortk from there

Nice edges and drawing so far! I know it feels like a ridiculous juggling act but you're learning things. Consider focusing on small sections of paintings like this but going more deeply. Like...focus on just a hand or her face but make it 100% accurate. Yeah you could get there with this thing but it'd take ages. The key thing to learn is found in very small areas, potentially.

Spend more time capturing shapes, add the big shapes first and make sure they are correct, like head shape, hair volume and shoulders. Spend time on that part, really look and change what needs to change. Then adding details after the foundation is sound.
