How do you grind your drawing skills? Do you aim for a completed piece a day?

kind of depends on your goals desu
i think 1 full illustration a week is a pretty good goal if you want to be an illustrator.

This is good advice to keep you motivated, but unless you're one of the lucky ones, this alone won't be enough to improve. You'll need to draw things targeted on improvement, which can still be tangentially related to what you want to draw. As countless stagnant permabeg galleries will attest to, most people aren't lucky enough to simply improve by repeatedly drawing their favorite thing, and at some point they'll have to break out of their comfort zone to avoid making the same errors over and over again.

If you haven't figured this out by now, just type some things you want to create and let your GPU do the rest

that is what is referred to as "talent"
the ability to not have to seek out instruction because you have an intuitive sense on how to improve by simply doing the task over and over again

There a lot of idiots in /ic/, there's legit people here that think its only crabs and begs. Most don't realize there's actual pros here, but you only hear from the idiots cause they tend to be the most vocal
therefore, most of the information on /ic/ is going to be shit

It ain't rocket science dude, understanding triumphs all. Break the concept till you fully grasp it in your mind, then go do the mandatory eye-to-hand coordination practice required to be able to implement it properly

I don't know who any of these people are, and I don't give a shit either, for all I know they could be top 1%ers in IQ, or lying whores that want to feel important
If you think doing shit just cause triumphs over rationally breaking down a concept to its essence so you can fully grasp it, then go ahead, I don't give a shit if you fail or succeed

I don't even know you

really the best approach is 'just draw', but then identify the weaknesses in your drawing and study to correct them & redo the drawing with your new knowledge.

you are not wrong but being purely analytical will still leave you with weaknesses because purely drawing and exercising your creativity are skills in of themselves that you can't really develop from pure study grindan

Yeah, I can understand your dilema. My suggestion is that you go see what the pros in interviews are saying.
When I first started out, I realized that the most logical way to find information would be to reach out to the organizations that literally make a living out of finding the most efficient way from bringing a beggart to a pro.
Which are these?
Private Trade schools for art.
CGMA, Gnomon Workshop, Feng Zhu School, 3Dsense.. etc you name it
These people already wasted countless hours of research on the best path/structure to teach students, so you go snoop their websites, find the syllabus, email them if necessary.

Extract a path out from that, you don't need to listen to a couple faggots in /ic/

>> No.6463926

in my experience there are several things that got me to improve really fast:
1. find an artstyle you like and straight up copy it- like idk to go with the most mainstream ones for example and say naruto. it has pretty realistic body proportions and lots of hand movements and toes. you are bound to improve your anatomy with that.
2. even if you arent activly drawing, try study art. watch youtube tutorials or speedpaints. go on pinterest and stuff and make boards of art pieces you like and look at them. try to figure out what the artist did to achieve certain effects. analysing will help you passivly get alot of knowledge.
3. look at 3d pieces /try to learn sculpting like blender. its abit hard at first to get used to but beeing forced to translate shapes and forms into 3d space makes you think of stuff you would have never thought about while just drawing. like i personaly recently found myself struggling with a head as i had to realize the eye corners are a little deeper and the cheeks bump up like a mountain. its something i didnt really think about while drawing and neither focused on when looking at photos or something.
4. mentioned a few times already but try go out of your comfort zone. it will be shit at first 100% but try to not go hard on yourself and even if one study ends up failed, heck you might have ended up nailing an angle of the chin or the shading on a tree bark ended up top this time.

its alot of hard work but everyone learns at a different speed. try to keep the ball rolling. even little sketches a day will come a long way withhin months or weeks.

"Just draw" is basically like a parent telling their kids to dont bother them and go play. Except ur telling it to autistic people who wont take no for an answer. If u have talent u already know what needs improving since u have eyes and a functional brain.

Because YOU know what your weaknesses are. If you suck at backgrounds then draw backgrounds, if you suck at shading then practice shading. And after you do and you want to be sure what you're doing wrong POST YOUR WORK HERE to see what people have to say.

"Just draw" is only bad advice if you're too dumb to look for solutions, too stubborn to try anything new, or too lazy to put the time in.
